The teacher from Batley is still in hiding

Nicetrynigel · 03/12/2024 05:55

Teacher Batley
His life ruined because a bunch of thugs decided they didn't like what he was teaching in his RE lesson.
This and the Labour MP's request for bhalsphey laws against those of the Abrahamic faith have made me concerned.

People should be free to offer an view against another's religion. It's scary that we are being a country where people thing being offended gives them a right to made death threats.

Batley Grammar School teacher felt “totally isolated” “abandoned” and “suicidal” due to inadequate support from relevant agencies.

An official review, due to be published on Monday 25th March, 2024, is set to recommend the banning of protests outside schools, following a concerning incident where a teacher was forced into hidi…

Why are the agitators not prosecuted.

Dash0Cal · 03/12/2024 19:40

If I was in charge of policing, I’d commit whatever resources it took to finding out who was responsible for the death threats. They should all be in prison. And if that led to violent protests I’d do whatever it took to put those guys in prison as well. Absolutely zero tolerance for this and am horrified at how mealy mouthed people are about it. A small group of violent thugs don’t get to control what other people can say.

OneOliveEagle · 03/12/2024 19:44

I know this area well - Batley & Spen.

I don’t condone what happened to the teacher and I do not support the enraged community, but that teacher must have known what was going to happen unless he was entirely naive as to the asian community of where he was teaching.

There is a long history of Labour MPs sucking up to the Asian community around Batley & Spen.

ARealitycheck · 03/12/2024 19:50

If it is an RE teacher, he fully knew the upset showing an image of mohammed would cause. While he might not agree with the thinking within Islam that it is a crime to do it, common sense should also prevail and don't go out your way to upset people.

So another “no go” area in Britain? Can’t teach about the criticism of one specific religion?

Sad.

Notaflippinclue · 03/12/2024 20:01

No wonder no one wants to go into teaching - if it's not soldiers being hacked to pieces it's shit like this - for a Christian country we seem to be pretty fucked

If you voted for Labour then you can really complain so 🤷‍♀️

What a very strange and irrational thing to say.

The Conservative Party were in power for 13 years! This situation cannot possibly be laid at the door of Labour who have only been around a few months. So weird.

BlackChunkyBoots · 03/12/2024 20:16

We don't want blasphemy laws but some MPs keep tryna bring em back!

https://unherd.com/newsroom/islamophobia-laws-would-be-disastrous-for-britain/

I would argue that whilst the crime of blasphemy no longer exists, people can still be under the cosh of perceived "religious hate". Hate speech is still de riguer amongst left-leaning elites despite most of othem never experienced it themselves. Of course nobody likes name calling nor physical harm for expressing your religious identity, but calling The Prophet a Pd is hardly worth a day in court imo.

Islamophobia laws would be disastrous for Britain

Yesterday in Parliament, Labour MP Tahir Ali asked Keir Starmer whether the Government would “commit to introducing measures to prohibit the desecration of all religious texts and the prophets of the Abrahamic religions”. Both the question and the Prim...

Are we still a Christian country though? I think we are an increasingly secular one. The CofE exerts its muscle on occasion to object to things like equal marriage or assisted dying, or to avoid its obligations around safeguarding, but most people just ignore them these days, don't they?

Bookridden · 03/12/2024 20:28

Are the Muslim community in Batley campaigning for this teacher to be able to return to teaching and to his normal life? I do hope so.

This, absolutely. Surely the Batley community are horrified by how intolerant, stupid and violent this makes them look?

What does the local MP have to say on the matter?

CarmelaBrunella · 03/12/2024 20:33

It's medieval.
Remember Dave Allen? His stand up routine constantly targeted Catholics. He was on prime time tv.
I've no time for this regressive nonsense.

Ponoka7 · 03/12/2024 11:52

He put up offensive caricatures during a religious lesson. He fucked about and found out, quite frankly. An Inman met with the Head and went through what happened. They started protesting when the Teacher wasn't going to be sacked. The Teacher wanted to stir up hatred and that's what he's done. He should be bared from Teaching. He obviously doesn't know what is appropriate in a classroom. FYI I didn't agree with the people being jailed whose offences were online during the Southport riots.

Absolute rubbish. This is the UK.

Not everyone believes in sky fairies. And nobody should be shouted down by those who do

This, am fucking appalled there's MN posters justifying the behaviours of those who have threatened him.

Apologists. Justifying death threats. Extraordinary.

He wasn't stirring up hatred, it was a discussion in a sixth form lesson- one that has been taught before at his school.

Any people, all religions?

JudgeJ · 03/12/2024 20:38

Thevelvelletes · 03/12/2024 06:49

How is religion allowed to cause these issues in this day and age?
Worship whichever make-believe deity you want it saddens me when the zealots take their beliefs to extremes.

Not all religions, if I as a Christian had done this, or egged on someone to decapitate a teacher because of my daughter's lies, as happened in France, I think the official reaction would have been very different. It needs to be stated that the only laws that are applicable in this country are those decided through Parliament.

JudgeJ · 03/12/2024 20:40

I too am appalled but I am not at all surprised, it's very typical of the gross MN hypocrisy.

Tiredallthetimeneedsleep · 03/12/2024 20:56

I worked at this school and he was a brilliant teacher and a lovely person. His MH must have really taken a battering. BGS should be ashamed that they didn't support him.

ParisGellerFTW · 03/12/2024 20:59

I'm sickened that there are people on this thread saying, essentially, "Well, yes, you can blaspheme if you must, but if you do, you'll get what's coming to you, so best not, eh?"

Absolutely fuck that. This is the UK.

And It’s outrageous that he didn’t get more support from his mp

Like common sense. A sensible person would not stand in eg a group of Tottenham fans and sing derogatory songs about Jews. Or stand outside Celtic park among their fans and sing about King Billy.

Because they’d be arrested. Not because they fear being beheaded.
