Can I mix my lights?

Getting the xmas tree today, Dd is desperate to.
I’m bored of the normal lights and wanted to take it back to my 80/90’s childhood and I got some of the coloured lights too. I don’t seem to have got as many as I thought, would it look weird to do a mix of the warm ones and coloured? Do people do that?

It’s your tree you can do whatever you like .

MaggieBsBoat · 30/11/2024 14:35

We do!

GreyLurker · 30/11/2024 14:35

You can do whatever you want - it’s your tree.

Chemenger · 30/11/2024 14:35

I really want coloured lights but everyone else is vetoing them. I think a mix would be fine, but I think I am probably in a minority!

K0OLA1D · 30/11/2024 14:37

I really wanted to add our colored lights to our pre-lite on this year but they've bust!! So I'm going to get some new ones after Xmas for next year.

My tree is very much a 90s vibe

WaveyGodshawk · 30/11/2024 14:37

I do both! We love it don't care what anyone else thinks

CarrotPencil · 30/11/2024 14:38

What do you mean? Put whatever you want on it.

Sceptical123 · 30/11/2024 14:40

Since when have coloured lights been naff ffs? Commercial Xmas is surely epitomised by colourful, bright, fun decorations. Have I missed something?

peachgreen · 30/11/2024 14:41

I put coloured lights on my white prelit tree.

Needatumbledryer · 30/11/2024 14:43

@Sceptical123 Who said they’re naff? I didn’t

I was just wondering if it looks better to go all just coloured or all just warm white? I’m not sure I’ve seen a mix before 🤔 any pics v welcome

Mine have a remote control where you can change from white to coloured - best of both worlds!

Bippityboppitybooo · 30/11/2024 14:46

I've just put ours up with coloured lights for the first time 😁 I thought I'd bought new white and coloured ones last year but apparently just bought white. So I got some coloured ones and they're fab!

If I was mixing white and coloured, I'd spread across the whole tree evenly so white and colour were mixed proportionally :)

Needatumbledryer · 30/11/2024 14:47

@Bippityboppitybooo Any pics?

Needatumbledryer · 30/11/2024 14:48

Just so bored of the plain ones and fancy a change

Sure :) Oldest is rearranging decorations so only a section pic. We have lots of random, handmade, decorations that we like each year. Anything goes here, there's a chocolate frog, a snitch and a mario star for the topper.

I've seen a trend on the reels and tiktoks of people putting both a string of white or warm white lights and a string of coloured lights on the tree and switch between the two depending on the mood.

Doggymummar · 30/11/2024 15:15

We usually have coloured lights as OH is autistic and prefers them, I find them a bit naff but this year he is letting me choose so we have white and copper baubles coming, copper tinsel and winter white lights all to be delivered before 10pm, thank you Amazon we only decided this afternoon you really cant beat it can you.

NOTcentreparcsandNOTatrifle · 30/11/2024 15:32

No, you must not do this. It is against the law and if you were my neighbour I would be calling the police immediately.

As it's MN, I guess I should add that I am joking.

BadPeopleFan · 30/11/2024 15:34

I am keeping the white lights on my tree as we have a teal/white/silver theme and think colored lights will look odd with the baubles!
I have bought 2 sets of Pickwick lights that I intend to string around the front room and kitchen....decorating tomorrow 😊

This is a very nice idea

You can do whatever you want 👍

mondaytosunday · 30/11/2024 15:46

Yes you can mix white and coloured. I'm mixing white and red this year. One mix I hate is cool and warm white. It's just wrong!!! And easy on the blue too.

Needatumbledryer · 30/11/2024 18:56

@Bippityboppitybooo Really nice! 🌲 ⭐️

I love coloured but have yielded to dd's desire for white this year. Still have all our coloured trashy decorations though
