I feel so sorry for schools and teachers these days. All I see on here is contant moaning and whining!

Has it always been like this?!

@BrightYellowTrain thankyou. This is very helpful to hear and encouraging.

One of my schools is a SEND school with all children having an EHCP.
We seldom have any issues.

The other mainstream schools also do not have more issues with SEND children.
Let's not be putting all the problems down to SEND

The closest secondary has more problems with white British children( non SEN)

The closest Khalsa which takes all faiths has a behaviour issue with Sikh boys ( non sen)

I don't think there is a clear answer.

I think that the problem is that parents are too involved in their children's lives. How often do we see threads here about children's friendships or adult children and their lives. Kids are not allowed to be independent or grow resilience so are unable to deal with anything negative in their lives.

For example, there is a thread now about a child's locker being changed. I wouldn't have even told my parents about something like that, even if it did annoy me. The child in question "doesn't cope with change" well good luck in the modern workplace then.

SEN is also an issue, why are so many kids classed as being in need of help. I went to pretty poor performing primary and secondary schools, but there were only 3 kids in my class of 32 in primary who would fall into that category. In secondary there was only one out of 30

A recent report maintained that 46% of children need special handling. 46%! That's ridiculously high.

Over diagnosis started,I believe, with difficult behaviour being classed as ADHD and duly medicated with.Ritalin. There was a time when they were handing that stuff out like sweets as it became the latest cure all. Sure, there were children who got some benefit from it but many who didn't. There are all sorts of things which can cause difficult behaviour and there are gentler ways of dealing with it.

If by ‘special handling’ you mean have SEN and require SEP, that is not correct. The latest government figures state 14.3% are at SEN Support level and a further 5.2% have EHCPs. So 19.5%, not 46%.
