To die on this pathetic hill? Neighbour related.

Semi detached. Neighbours are dicks. They are the type to cut their tree and throw it over my side of the fence, specially tell their work men to park over my drive. They’ve done so much more but it’s generally small petty things like that but it builds up.

Our front doors are on the side of the house and we have bay windows facing the front onto the street with a gap in between. This gap is small and definitely where the boundary line is. They have now started using this area to store their bin - so that it’s pressed up against my window.

I’m just so fed up of it that I’ve started googling fences. I can’t go talk to them because there is no reasoning with them.

Good fences make good neighbours as the old saying goes. Put one up asap. Then try to get on good terms with them by saying hello and chatting whenever you both have time. It's possible that rather than intending to nick your space they are not fully aware of how intrusive they are being.

Absolutely not. We’re not neighbours at war but we know we don’t like each other. They’ve done numerous things since moving in that are just dick moves and the bin thing is the final straw.

It’s my boundary and I don’t beee to accommodate someone else’s bin there when I have my own there too,

Well done. Can you peek through the curtains and report back on their faces when they see the fence?

I wish but the fence is high enough that I won’t have to see their faces.

Given all the incidents OP has listed it's far, far, far more possible they're just cheeky fuckers who enjoy being arseholes. Cos that's just how some people are!

jackstini · 11/12/2024 12:47

Looking forward to hearing about their cats bum faces when they see it

You have to be upstairs hiding behind a curtain with window slightly open to gauge their reaction!

TeenLifeMum · 11/12/2024 12:49

Heavy planter would be nice and easy to position and look nice too.

ChaoticCrumble · 11/12/2024 12:50

Perfect OP. I love an update. Let us know if they respond.

Projectme · 11/12/2024 12:54

Haha...love this update!! Well done OP!

BurgundyBear · 11/12/2024 12:59

That is a great update @tuesfsytuesfay
Can you embellish your lovely new fence with some festive tinsel as a further ‘fuck you’ gesture!

The update no one asked for 😂. I’m just too happy not to post.

So it got worse (despite me not doing anything and not even moving their bin shoved against my window) they started creeping their other bins further onto my drive.

Fence panel is here and is currently being fitted, their bins have been moved onto their driveway and they aren’t at home, so nice little treat for them when they get home.

Also I checked the boundary and they recently had their driveway done (maybe a year ago) and I didn’t realise that they’d planted a row of tiny stone on my side. Honestly they are dicks.

This update has made me very happy 😂

GasPanic · 11/12/2024 13:48

Please update with what the CF neighbour does when they return.

Maybe they will helplessly try to push the bin against the fence, then give up after trying several times.

Or maybe move their bins to the end of the road.

With the tree cuttings, they legally have to give the parts that overhang your garden to you, even if the trunk's on their side. It's some old law that's still in force about your right to the firewood and also stands for any fruit growing your side too. My mother in law's neighbours used to take all the plums off their side of her tree and rather cheekily reach through and try to grab the ones in arms reach on her side too, greedy sods!

My understanding was if the trunk of the tree was on their side and the OP decided to trim back the branches to reach only to the fence-line, then the OP would have to offer those cuttings back to the neighbour. The neighbour could then either accept the cuttings (as it's their tree) or tell the OP to dispose of them in their waste.

I do not think that if the trunk is in the neighbours garden and they decide to trim their own tree, they have to offer cuttings to anyone. In fact, if the branches fall in to the OP's garden, I actually think it's the responsibility of the neighbour to come in and collect their waste and not leave it for the OP to clean up after them.

As for your mum's plum tree @2pence, I think the neighbours are allowed help themselves to the fruit that is accessible on the branches that overhang their garden. Anything that is actually hanging in your mother's garden, belongs to your mother and she should nip that in the bud and stop them taking them.

Excellent!!!! Most excellent all around @tuesfsytuesfay !!!!

Please take yourself to your upstairs room that overlooks the driveways for when they are due to return home. They won't be able to park diagonally on their driveway any more too so they will have to adapt their driving skills when they get home today too! What wonderful Christmas Joy!!!

Excellent move from you!

Getupat8amnow · 11/12/2024 14:12

Than you for the update. I am so glad you are getting a fence put up.

Fizzywizzy2 · 11/12/2024 14:14

If it was me, I'd be outside waiting for their return to see their reaction. Well done for sorting out a fence so quickly! If you don't mind sharing, how much did it cost? Thinking of getting a fence too.

IWillAlwaysBeinaClubWithYouin1973 · 11/12/2024 14:19

Surely you need to wash the curtains in your upstairs front bedrooms? And will spend a lot of time re-arranging/taking them down, until CF turns up ... surely?

PollyPeachum · 11/12/2024 14:30

We had a genuine error on our boundary, we both agreed that a previous occupant of our house had 'stolen' a strip when erecting a fence. We agreed a line and arranged a builder to put a low single wire fence on some stout pegs. We will build to that next time fence is replaced. Is something like that possible?

2025istheyear · 11/12/2024 14:34

When will they get home? So happy for you.

Stormyweatheroutthere · 11/12/2024 14:36

When we had a wall built at the front to replace a small shabby fence ndn disputed the boundary line.... Both sat looking through our deeds... They indeed were correct. They 'owed' us half a brick width.. The brickie was meticulous in his work. Ndn never spoke to us again. Over half a brick...
Oh and we owned our house..
They were council tenants!!
Boundaries bring out the batshit ime.

MrsCarson · 11/12/2024 15:00

Thanks for the update, now we wait to see their reaction when they get home.

That is always possible. But it may even so be possible to establish friendly relations which would make it easier when problems happen future.
