To wonder what drives foreign fraudsters and criminals?

I'm watching a programme on gang Universal Credit fraud and the other day I watched a programme on a shoplifting gang. The crims featured were Romanian and Bulgarian. I'm genuinely wondering what drives these people to come to the UK and then commit these crimes. Is it greed? Poverty?

Greed and the knowledge they'll get away with it....

It makes me so angry. This is who our taxes are being spent on. Jailing these criminals and paying out UC to these fraudsters.

Nail on the head. Our entire policing and justice system is an absolute joke.

It seems to be more lucrative than many honest career paths and maybe they wouldn't get away with it in their own countries ?

That could be a factor too . The good ones will work hard at school and set up businesses, maybe become top dogs in politics and the bad ones will turn to crime because it's lucrative.

These types of shows are designed to deliberately redirect your anger at easy targets, those 'darn foreigners' and you've fallen for it.

This. I imagine the entire Indian subcontinent and the rest of the colonial empire would be shaking their heads and tut tutting over the east india company foreign born gangs if they had the chance to watch such a documentary in 1850.

I guarantee there are more British born 'fraudsters' deceiving social care in the UK than any other group.

Maybe they don't travel to other countries to do so (no idea and I guarantee neither do you) but that is a problem with our country's leniency, not those 'foreigners'.

I don't know what the situation is now but I know in the past (15/20 years ago - I have no crustie contacts any more) there were gangs of British crusties who would get the ferry over to Ireland to collect the dole and then back to the UK.

But that's fine I guess as they are following their in the footsteps of their forebears of exploiting Ireland 🤷‍♀️

I think human nature is the same everywhere tbh. I saw a documentary on scammers at a call centre and they were laughing about how they rip people off. They don't get proper jobs because they want to be rich but instead of working hard for it they rip people off. I would like to rip them a new one personally.

People who have known poverty from birth do lead different lives. Did you go to Moldova 20 years ago?

It's not desperation when it's millions of pounds to one gang .It's know how and organisation and the money is the reward.

I love the ones on Facebook market place, when they are planning to send a courier with a check that you have to pay insurance for, they always say, “ let me explain to you” I can feel their slathering greed and see them rubbing their dirty scamming paws together. I don’t know where they are from though could be English and white.

The OP was talking about white people though. Eastern European is as white as it gets. Apart from that I get your point.

The fact that shoplifting might as well be legal, consigned to the do nothing list.
