I’m naming my little girl Maya but I can’t for the life of me think of a middle name that goes has anyone got any ideas?

Does she need a middle name? I don't have one and have survived okay so far.

Scutterbug · 26/11/2024 14:05

Personally I don’t see the point in middle names unless they mean something, but obviously it’s your choice.

I think there’s a dedicated baby names chat page on here.

redgingerbread · 26/11/2024 14:10

I don’t think middle names have to ‘go’, really. How often do you introduce yourself by your full name?

What about using the name of a family member or friend who’s important to you? A character from a favourite film/book/song? A flower or place that has significance to you? A virtue or quality that you admire?

JC03745 · 26/11/2024 14:12

You could really pick any name that ideally doesn't also start with M or end in A.
Maya Matilda, Maya Taylor, Maya Rayna etc don't flow.

Any family names you'd want to use? Also, how are you pronouncing Maya?
Maya Beth/Bethany
Maya Rose
Maya Skye
Maya Louisa
Maya Danielle

Robinredd · 26/11/2024 14:13

I don't see the point of them unless it's to honour someone. Maya is lovely on its own.

My children and I have middle names but they are family members. That's typically the done thing in Ireland, or in my circles anyway.

MK0703 · 26/11/2024 14:18

Thanks for the suggestions, I was going to use a family member my nans name was May but I think Maya May is just too much to be able to use her name

Of course it has to go. Can't have Maya Raya, or Maya Mia for example.

x2boys · 26/11/2024 14:29

Tbh you will rarely use it so it doesn't really matter what it sounds like
Both my kids have family names as middle names, they are never used apart from on official forms

Ime it's very rare so even if the names sound ludicrous together it's not like its going to be used on a daily basis

Welshwabbit · 26/11/2024 14:32

I think single syllable is best and my thought was Maya Rose, which I see pp has already suggested.

Catza · 26/11/2024 14:35

Middle name is not a legal requirement. I don't have a middle name. My partner legally dropped his in his 20s. Why do you think she needs one?

eqpi4t2hbsnktd · 26/11/2024 14:35

Papaya

OrangeCarrot · 26/11/2024 14:37

Reading this thread just made me realise how happy I am not to have a middle name. Think of all the time I have saved when filling in forms!

As for your question, Maya May sounds absolutely fine and it’s nice that it means something.

CoolPlayer · 26/11/2024 14:37

Not sure about a middle name but love the name Maya :)

Maya May is excellent! Love it!

Devilsmommy · 26/11/2024 14:41

Maya may is lovely but if you don't want it then what about Maya Rose?

bridgetreilly · 26/11/2024 14:42

Maya Louise
Maya Clare
Maya Delphine
Maya Penelope
Maya Tessa

Needanewname42 · 26/11/2024 14:44

Maya May is a bit cartoonish
What other family names are there?

I do think middle names are useful esp using initials. Also I know kids who have ended up in school with other kids with the same name Maya Karen etc is much better than being known as Maya Smith A and Maya Smith B.

I once worked somewhere with two John Smiths and a Jim Smith and it wasn't a huge organisation.

Here we go again…

RosieLeaf · 26/11/2024 14:46

Maya Raye

DogInATent · 26/11/2024 14:50

Your maiden name? - if she's your first daughter.

It's a tradition in some parts of the UK. Girl children get the maternal maiden names as middle names, and boy children get the paternal christian names as a middle name. So girls go, <first name> <mother's maiden name> <surname>, <first name> <maternal grandmother's maiden name> <surname>, etc.

Furrydogmum · 26/11/2024 15:01

Maya Grace..

IdgieThreadgoodeIsMyHeroine · 26/11/2024 15:12

Another vote for Maya Rose.
