Theatre won't let me sell my tickets

I'm so upset and don't know what to do. I have bought tickets for my DD's birthday in December. The show is in London.
They were expensive and it was her main present.
I completely understand that the company won't refund me as that's in their small print.
Now they're saying they won't let me sell them either. I can't put them on Twickets because they won't make them "transferrable". Even though I have them in my Apple wallet. Twickets won't accept screen shots.
The show is completely sold out. So I'm sure someone will want them. Is there anything I can do?
The reason we can't go is my stepdad has been taken into hospital and so we will need to spend time there all over Christmas hence we can't go x

Are you sure they won't sell them on your behalf, not a refund but put them up for sale and if someone buys them then give you the money - that's what our one does.

onedayatatime73 · 26/11/2024 13:04

They have said no. It's not a massive theatre so 5 seats empty will be a big deal for the show. I'm so upset. They are refusing to let me sell them on.

Would it be feasible for someone else to take her? My dad was ill for my birthday outing, so I ended up going with my best friend, her mum and their lodger, and then staying at theirs overnight.

If you're going to be the other end of the country, that might not work for you, unfortunately.

BigDahliaFan · 26/11/2024 13:13

I'm really surprised they won't sell them as stand by tickets. Would they change to a different date?

SleepingStandingUp · 26/11/2024 13:19

Can you not sell them privately? See if anyone in your contacts or your contacts contacts would have them off you at a reduced price?

But I second seeing if someone else can take her. Obviously it's really sad her Grandad is end of life, but how old is she? Is the whole of Xmas and her birthday going to be spent at the hospital? I sound callous and I don't mean to, of you want to be together but could your partner not take two days out with the kids to take them?

onedayatatime73 · 26/11/2024 13:24

They live miles away so we're all going to stay down there as a family. Just want to be around to help my mum and see him. I won't make it miserable for the children.
I just don't understand why the company won't let me sell them on Twickets (for face value. Not trying to make a profit. Just sell them).
I've already asked some friends but no takers. So I don't know what else I can do. Just seems an absurd way to deal with this. I'm sure they get asked for refunds all the time but not to allow me to sell them is just crazy.

That is ridiculous of them! theatres in London appear to be year on year money grabbers, such a shame!

HanSB · 26/11/2024 14:08

I've never been asked for ID in a theatre. I'm sure that you can just forward across the QR codes to whomever you sell it to. What show is it? I'm sure there are FB groups you could sell them on.

onedayatatime73 · 26/11/2024 14:11

It's called Come Alive. It's basically The Greatest Showman. All their songs and acrobats etc. A small theatre all set in the round.
They just won't let me sell them on a site like Twickets. I've tried friends but no takers. I'll see if Facebook have a site

OP posts:
LIZS · 26/11/2024 14:21

Will the box office not take returns to resell on your behalf?

EmeraldRoulette · 26/11/2024 14:24

Do you need ID?

if not then you just forward the tickets to whoever buys them. Ask around all your networks. Don't put it on a ticket site.

PatriciaHolm · 26/11/2024 14:28

The ticket t&cs suggest they will change to another performance - is that possible?

Seems a bit unfair on your daughter for her to forgo her Christmas present and treat, is that what your step dad would want? Is there no way you can still attend

auberginepeel · 26/11/2024 14:39

Have you tried changing the days? I had some west end tickets that I needed to change, the theatre let me change the performance, I think there was technically a small admin fee and I wasn't supposed to pick seats that were cheaper (though they let me off).

Thank you. I've tried this with them. They have made it impossible for me to rebook. I have had so much back and forth with them.

Sorry your daughter is missing out on her main present because you'd step dad will be in hospital? Am I missing something? It's one evening, you should go.

SprinkleCake · 26/11/2024 14:54

I think you should still go. It’s one day and her main present.

I don't understand this either, he is in hospital now, when is the show, I think its really unfair on the daughter who is missing out

Changingplace · 26/11/2024 14:57

If you have them in your phone wallet can’t you just share them? When I go into a voucher I’ve got in my wallet I can click the arrow at the top and send it on, can’t you just sell them and do that?

Or send the person the email you downloaded them from, as long as they’re the only ones using the tickets it won’t matter you have a copy.

Ridiculous of the theatre, but how would they even know you’d done this?

JC03745 · 26/11/2024 15:00

Why can't you still go?

Because I can't find someone I know to sell them to. If I could then yes this is exactly what I would do. But to sell them on tickets it needs to have a download link. So Twickets rejected my listing. And the theatre won't resend me the tickets as a download link.

I might actually be interested in the tickets for the right price. Are you able to privately message me?

My family live miles away. We will go there for 2 weeks over Christmas now. Lots of family there. Sisters, brother etc. we can't afford to go there and come back and go back again. Sorry it's hard to explain the geography. I'm sad and upset for my family. But trying to make the best of Christmas. I'm just trying to sell some tickets and the point isn't where my family live, the point is why can't a theatre let me sell tickets - not for profit - but at face value.
