Dont like Snooker

I don't understand why the BBC needs to tie up so many channels to show it right now.
I do like sport, but snooker isn't sport, is it?

And different people like different things so all you have to do is not watch it if you don't like it.

Weirdly I love watching snooker I find it really relaxing!

Thegoatliesdownonbroadway · 24/11/2024 19:48

It goes on for weeks. Why not best of 3 frames and get over and done within a couple of days?

Because that's not how the game works. Why don't they have football matches lasting 30 minutes or car races of 3 laps?

MrsRobinsonsHandprints · 24/11/2024 19:49

I don't like snooker (I love it)
Showing my age .

I'm sad at the lack of sport on UK TV, football, rugby etc all on Pay Per View.

I don't like sport but think it should be shown on terrestrial channels

Nine9 · 24/11/2024 19:50

I don't like the Olympics, didn't watch any this year and previously found it extremely boring overall. I still acknowledge that millions of people do, so it makes sense for it to be on TV so much.
They must be getting the desired viewing numbers if snooker is being broadcast so often.

Was gonna say the same.

Like watching someone play Minesweeper or something.

TheChosenTwo · 24/11/2024 19:51

I got really into the snooker when heavily pregnant with dc1, dh had gone out and the controller wasn’t in my rach and he had left the snooker on before going out. I don’t watch it now but if it’s on its one of the least offensive and obnoxious sports to have to listen to on tv so it gets my vote to stay on tv for as long as it is 😂

Middlemarch123 · 24/11/2024 19:51

I love it, find it very relaxing. It’s not on every channel OP, there’s always a choice.

Thegoatliesdownonbroadway · 24/11/2024 19:57

Something for everyone, so the BBC says.

I agree, there should be more programmes with people dancing, cooking meals and baking cakes, ideally all at once

Thegoatliesdownonbroadway · 24/11/2024 20:00

I will stop moaning, Wolf Hall on at 9pm

There are so many options for watching TV these days that I don't think it really has as much impact when they show live sports that I'm not interested in. I generally record things so just watch those, or delve into iplayer. There is choice, OP, you're not tied to live terrestrial TV any more.

I feel like this about football, give everyone a ball and go home.

(I’ve pinched that from someone and can’t remember who)

Invisablepanic · 24/11/2024 20:06

I used to love watching the snooker but only after I'd watched enough to understand what was going on and appreciate good shots.

Mudflaps · 24/11/2024 20:07

I've never been interested in watching it, we didn't have snooker clubs or the likes in rural Ireland growing up
(enjoyed playing it and pool in the pubs when I was a lot younger) but it makes me very sentimental when I see it on tv. My Grandaunt loved it, when we'd visit as children she'd fill us with sweets as long as we stayed quiet when the snooker was on, when I started driving and would go to visit her (three hours drive) I'd have to make sure there was no snooker on because she was so into watching it I might as well not be there. She's gone from us a good few years now but anytime I see a game being played I'm straight back on the banks of
Calloughs Lough waiting for her to prise herself out of her chair by the open fire and say 'we'll have a cup of tae now afore we go shopping', that's when you knew the snooker was over for the day but best of all memories is that she watched it all on a black and white telly!! Thank you for making me smile and reminisce tonight.

serendipity70 · 24/11/2024 20:08

Ugh the most boring thing ever - I would rather watch paint dry!

If only there was a way to watch a different channel 🤔

LoveTheDarts · 24/11/2024 20:29

I love it, I've been dual screening darts and snooker today and at one point also had the football on. Perfect Sunday. 🎯🎱 ⚽️

Try watching a 147 from Ronnie on YouTube. You still might not like it, but I think you'll appreciate just how much skill is involved.

That's true but snooker occupies the TV for weeks a few times a year, similarly with darts which isn't even a spectator sport!

The real skill used to be to watch it in black and white yet be able to recognise all the colours from their shade of grey as my dear late Dad could before colour TV!

I recall once getting keen on watching crown green bowls.
