What's the issue with Dior?

I've treated myself to a small bottle of Dior perfume but apparently people are boycotting - does anyone know what the issue is - read different things online. Looks like it's going in the bin or I'm I being daft?😐

Are you seriously going to throw a newly-purchased item in the bin while you admit you don’t understand the reasons for a Dior boycott?

Valid8me · 22/11/2024 10:52

You are being ridiculous and incredibly wasteful. You've bought it now so they aleady have your money and its too late to cause any damage by boycotting, even if you did understand the reasons.

AppleDumplings · 22/11/2024 10:52

If you treated yourself to something, then enjoy it. What a terrible waste to look forward to having something and then to throw it away for no good reason. If you find out the reason people are boycotting Dior, and you support it, just don't buy from them again. Enjoy your perfume.

A quick google helps:

MorrisZapp · 22/11/2024 10:57

Well I googled for you and there are two reasons. First is their contributions to Israel (with a disproved side order of sacking an Israeli model) and secondly they've been linked with exploitative factories in Italy.

If either of these issues are of concern to you, you could find out more and decide if you want to keep buying. Flinging an already bought item in the bin is unlikely to have an impact on their business.

tilypu · 22/11/2024 10:57

Not using something that you've paid for because people are boycotting is not going to change anything - they have your money. They don't care what you do with the product. If you do that you've literally just thrown the money away and changed nothing.

TTPDTS · 22/11/2024 11:01

I mean you've already given them your money so that's past the point of being able to boycott! I'd just use the perfume 😃

Katiesaidthat · 22/11/2024 11:03

A non issue. So Bella Hadid left Dior in May as her contract ended and the new image of the brand is an Israeli model. Big deal. Sometimes I despair.

AgnesX · 22/11/2024 11:04

What did you get? I do like Dior perfume.

Off to see what the fuss is about.

Pootles34 · 22/11/2024 11:04

You don't know what the issue is, and yet you're going to throw your money in the bin, which will change nothing? Would you like to send me some money, as you clearly have a hole burning in your pocket?

Thankyou

Sortumn · 22/11/2024 11:06

You can't boycott it now you've bought it. Wear and enjoy.

Slotted · 22/11/2024 11:07

I now boycott Zara but I still wear the Zara clothes I already have. I don’t believe in wasting stuff that has already been purchased.

KrisAkabusi · 22/11/2024 11:07

The very definition of more money than sense.

TheThreeCheesesOfTheApocalypse44 · 22/11/2024 11:07

Too many people jumped on a bandwagon and it toppled over leaving a mess of smashed perfume bottles and lipsticks. Other than that things are fine......I like their socks.

herecomesautumn · 22/11/2024 11:12

If you don't know then it's unlikely to be something you strongly believe in. So I would keep it and carry on spraying.

HooMoo · 22/11/2024 11:12

What’s the logic in throwing it in the bin? You’ve bought it now Dior have their money. Don’t be so wasteful.

wintersgold · 22/11/2024 11:22

So Dior just hired an Israeli model, that's it? Quite the opposite of an issue, good for them. Keep the perfume

potatocakesinprogress · 22/11/2024 11:29

So tired of these threads with thinly veiled ulterior motives. I hope mumsnet starts deleting them.

Useofstirm · 22/11/2024 11:31

You'd seriously just throw it in the bin? 😯

Wherethewildthingsfart · 22/11/2024 11:32

I love Dior, send it to me so that you can feel better about yourself.

legalseagull · 22/11/2024 11:34

You've already given the company your money. I doubt Netanyahu will cry himself to sleep

Mercurial123 · 22/11/2024 11:35

The main issue is producing a bag for around €53 and selling it for thousands. Their contracted workers are working in dangerous conditions with poor pay. It's just fast fashion with a huge markup.

Not surprisingly, not too many people seem to care, and the influencers are still promoting them.

JaneJeffer · 22/11/2024 11:35

Why not return the perfume and make a donation to UNICEF instead
