I will start. Every year a certain family member gets me bath bombs. I cannot use them as i am alergic to them. I have suggested things i would prefer every year like chocolates or a good bottle of wine. This family member always fails to listen. I am fed up of pretending to be greatful.

My worst Xmas gift part 2.

My ex MIL gave me an ovulation test kit. As she wanted grandchildren from me and my ex. We never wanted children. I only saw her once between the NY and the August when me and ex split up.

She should be lucky as my ex's brother has 5 kids of his own plus 4 step kids (different partners)

should have announced "brilliant, now we'll have a better idea of when to avoid having sex!"

Joewickscarpet · 21/11/2024 23:08

A toothbrush, an electric ⚡ fairly dear one but still, a fucking toothbrush

viques · 21/11/2024 23:10

A very late uncle managed to gift all the female members of the family a pair of tights every year, for at least ten years. Always the same brand, always a peculiar shade called “American Tan” . God knows where he sourced them, he must have had a secret lock up where he stashed them.

That’s hilarious 🤣 They probably fell off the back of a truck!

He used to spend a lot of time in pubs so you are probably right!

The last Christmas with my exH. We had many talks about upping the romance and my expectations were high. I received a wire sculpture of Barack Obama.

RM2013 · 21/11/2024 23:33

Ex H once bought me some underwear but it was a pack of cotton briefs - think the ones you might have had aged 5 with the days of the week on the front.
I also once mentioned that as a little girl I’d always yearned for an old fashioned dolls house - so he bought me a book which contained postcards of dolls houses

needless to say the marriage was already doomed 🤣

WineIsMyMainVice · 21/11/2024 23:37

A hammer. Yes. A hammer.

thursdayhistory · 21/11/2024 23:40

I have not laughed so much for ages.
My XMIL used to give me beautiful thoughtful gifts and I still got them. She always made very memorable Christmas and I do miss it.

On a bad gift note - someone I know got from her MIL a garden tin animal - wait for it - black sheep.

perfectstorm · 21/11/2024 23:41

My grandmother once got my mother a pink plastic potty chair, with a plastic rose attached, aimed for elderly and incontinent adults, that she got from a catalogue. My mother was 35 at the time. Happy Christmas to her.

I think all bad gifts I've ever had pale into meaningless blandness compared to that.

Hello..I'm a Dog.

My absolute worst Christmas present was a pair of nail clippers.

And a stupid coat with legs that make the squirrels take the piss.

What's wrong with Donut beds and natural treats?

Love it!

And what a very beautiful dog you have, btw.

Oh bless him😅. Did he live through the war years when a pair of stocking were so very dear?

I haven't read the thread, so this may have been suggested, can't you wrap them up and re-gift them back each year? Could be quite interesting to see how long you both could maintain the passive aggression Grin

GingersOwner26 · 22/11/2024 00:02

A knitted robin on a log, glued to some tatty cotton wool and cardboard, with a piece of plastic holly stuck up its arse. I was in the sixth form at the time. Just what every seventeen year old wanted. Even my uncle’s Labrador turned his nose up at it.

The whole thing fell to bits after about 2 minutes. One uncle used it as a football.

My mum once got me a soap and glory gift set. At least she has not got me one again.

I got a hideous Soap & Glory wash bag years ago (by ex’s mother). Had clearly been left in bargain bin: said She’s So Fickle on it 😐

NSA2103 · 22/11/2024 00:07

A collapsible bucket.

A teddy bear that moved around on wheels and played Thriller when you switched it on.

I would have loved that!

healthybychristmas · 22/11/2024 00:30

Nobody should complain about a soap and glory gift set when someone else has to put up with a collapsible bucket.

EdithBond · 22/11/2024 00:31

Gatekeeper · 21/11/2024 14:11

A stuffed squirrel wrapped in a tea towel !

Surreal

DBD1975 · 22/11/2024 00:32

A coat hanger (obviously just grabbed from the wardrobe)
A CD (obviously just grabbed from the car)
A box of petit fours with some missing (obviously just grabbed from the kitchen)
An air freshener (obviously just grabbed from under the sink)
A very small travel kit (obviously a freebie)

Why do people bother? Give me nothing rather than see it as an opportunity to try and humiliate!

HarrisObviously · 22/11/2024 00:39

My MIL gave me a brown checked overall (the sort of thing cleaners and dinner ladies wore years ago). My SIL was given a blue one.

ThreeDoorsDown · 22/11/2024 00:46

My ex mother in law bought be a copy of 50 shades of grey. To this day I have no idea why. She doesn’t read those sorts of books (icy cold woman) and she knows that I don’t read that genre either. Knowing her, it would’ve have been a dig, but I really don’t know what prompted the dig as she is usually more targeted and obvious. She isn’t naïve either, and would’ve have known full well the contents of the book. Bizarre.
We kept in touch because of my children. Anyway, since then she has had coffee creams from me each year.

Monkey1z · 22/11/2024 00:55

I work for a company that makes product X. Multiple family members buy me product X for Christmas. Why? Just why? I get the stuff practically free. They know cos I share it with them. 🤦🏻‍♀️
