To ask if anyone still uses a non electric toothbrush?

Tonight I used an ordinary manual toothbrush, first time in ages as I was unable to use my electric one.

It felt strange.
Two questions I have, does everyone have an electric one today?

Is it possible to clean your teeth as well with one?
Or is it electric all the way for the best clean?😱

I occasionally grab a manual when in a rush

I just bought a SURI after being sucked in by ads and can’t work it out, feel like I just can’t work out how best to brush with it?

hanahsaunt · 20/11/2024 22:03

I prefer a manual toothbrush and my dentist is very happy with my teeth.

Devilsmommy · 20/11/2024 22:04

Have never had an electric one and don't want one

GaryLurcher19 · 20/11/2024 22:18

I never had an electric toothbrush.

I'm 45 and don't have a single filling.

DoYouReally · 20/11/2024 22:18

Have an electric one for years and believe my teeth are cleaner as a result. Zero evidence, just think they are.

Coulddowithanap · 20/11/2024 22:19

I still use a manual one, prefer it to the electric

KnittedCardi · 20/11/2024 22:19

I rotate. I have a sonic, if it runs out of charge I use the manual. I actually think they clean slightly differently, so it's a good thing to chop and change.

Same here, my dentist once said as long as you clean your teeth well enough electric toothbrushes are a waste of money.

Same here.

They’re a massive con IMO.

Hmm, I’d always assumed that a manual brush was necessary in addition to an electric but that one could manage without an electric altogether.

For example, a raspberry pip or something like gets stuck in your tooth in the kind of location where flossing etc. would not help. An electric toothbrush would be too much trouble; a manual one would solve it in seconds.

Also, cautionary tale. Friend brushes teeth loads of times every day. Dentist said only use electric toothbrush twice daily.

That's what the brands hope for

Runssometimes · 20/11/2024 22:39

Prefer manual. I don’t like the vibrations from an electric and the crud that collects on the base. Plus much slimmer for travel.

Spagettifunctional · 20/11/2024 22:39

Late 40s no fillings and always use sensodyne and manual brush

HelloMyNameIsElderSmurf · 20/11/2024 22:40

I can't bear the sensation of an electric toothbrush, it's a real sensory ick for me that starts me gagging.

Same, can't stand the feeling of an electric toothbrush

@Cosyblanket99 I LOVE my SURI. Don't 'brush' with it. More like a slow massage over the gum and tooth.

Choosenandenough · 20/11/2024 22:47

I have a manual one, I prefer it but probably because I don’t have a plug socket in my bathroom, I forgot to vhathe it all the time, ended up using it like a manual toothbrush and the replacement heads are quite expensive, however I do have a water flosser that I wouldn’t be without, it was such a good purchase for me.

mindutopia · 20/11/2024 22:49

None of us have ever used an electric toothbrush. I still keep a paper diary too. Change is hard. 😂

Dweetfidilove · 20/11/2024 22:50

Nothing beats a good old-fashioned Reach firm toothbrush.

GaryLurcher19 · 20/11/2024 22:50

It's down to technique, I expect. If you've always done a thorough job with a manual, nothing is gained by going electric.

If you had poor technique or couldn't really be bothered to be thorough, an electric brush might be an improvement.

This isn't a criticism of anyone, just my thoughts on why people have different preferences and results.
