To ask if anyone still uses a non electric toothbrush?

Tonight I used an ordinary manual toothbrush, first time in ages as I was unable to use my electric one.

It felt strange.
Two questions I have, does everyone have an electric one today?

Is it possible to clean your teeth as well with one?
Or is it electric all the way for the best clean?😱

How strange lol
I am mid thirties and have always used a manual. Went to the dentist for the first time in 6 years a couple of months ago and they said my teeth were great and they'd seen less plaque on people who go every 3 months. I have one filling.

There was an article on the BBC a while back on whether electric toothbrushes were better for dental health. It was found they only are if the user has poor brushing technique with a manual. So if you brush your teeth with a manual as advised, there is no difference.

ChristmasFluff · 21/11/2024 08:47

I use an electric one, as my manual technique is rubbish - I brush too hard and end up 'sawing' at the back teeth.

An electric means that doesn't happen. My dentist says electric toothbrushes are almost always better than manual anyway, as I'm not alone and most people don't brush correctly or for long enough with a manual one.

I've never had an electric toothbrush, I have zero fillings and the dentist has never asked what type of toothbrush I use.

HopelesslyOptimistic · 21/11/2024 08:54

I e reverted back to manual due to extortionate price of tooth brush heads. If someone could recommend where I can buy reasonably priced heads please hit me.

Everyone in every tv drama or film who brushes their teeth uses a manual. It’s as if electric ones haven’t been invented. No idea why.

Electric toothbrush at home and manual when we go away along with daily floss/interdental brushing. Me and DH have both just had checkups and dentist said all good. Getting into good dental hygiene habits at a young age is the key I think, rather than what sort of brush you use. Unfortunately my parents were a bit lax in that regard hence why I’ve got so many fillings and have had some problems. DH on the other hand has only a few fillings.

I've always used a manual toothbrush and the dentist says my teeth are in excellent condition, always praises how clean they are. But because he's constantly recommending electric toothbrushes, I've been lying to him for years that I use one!

They're loud so it's something else to balance on the sound mix, they spray so our handsome hero's mirror would be covered in spit flecks, and they're louder in your head than they are in real life so the actor will shout their next line, also they have to take it out, switch it off, speak, switch it on, put it in, listen, take it out, switch it off, speak - I'm bored typing this and you're bored reading it, so imagine how dull it would be to watch?

I use a manual brush and my teeth are fine with no fillings.
I tried an electric brush for a short while and started getting problems I had never had before so reverted back.

Same here.

They’re a massive con IMO.

My dentist says the exact opposite.

I've had an electric one since I were a child (42 now).

My teeth are good, but a lot of people are saying the same who use a manual. Teeth aren't good or bad juat depending on dental care, genetics have a lot to do with it.

Limth · 21/11/2024 09:54

Never had an electric toothbrush.

I tried one once and it was vile, like brushing with a vibrator.
It gave me a headache and my teeth didn't feel clean.

Yes as gum desease can be genétic.
