To ask if anyone still uses a non electric toothbrush?

Tonight I used an ordinary manual toothbrush, first time in ages as I was unable to use my electric one.

It felt strange.
Two questions I have, does everyone have an electric one today?

Is it possible to clean your teeth as well with one?
Or is it electric all the way for the best clean?😱

None of us have ever used an electric toothbrush. I still keep a paper diary too. Change is hard. 😂

I have a paper diary too 😊

Of course! The only time I've ever used an electric toothbrush it triggered a migraine so bad I was in bed for a week.

I occasionally grab a manual when in a rush

I just bought a SURI after being sucked in by ads and can’t work it out, feel like I just can’t work out how best to brush with it?

Love my Suri - didn't see any ads, someone on here recommended them.
I keep a non-electric toothbrush in the office.

I have sensory processing issues associated with ADHD and ASD and absolutely, categorically cannot bear electric toothbrushes. DH and the kids all use them though.

Amarige · 20/11/2024 22:56

I switched to using a children's manual toothbrush some years ago and my dentist says my teeth are all the better for it after years of using electric ones.

Using a small manual one means I take time to give them a thorough clean instead of whisking over them with an electric toothpaste.

I did so on my dentists recommendation.!

Roastitcheese · 20/11/2024 22:59

I’ve never had an electric one. Dentist says my teeth and gums are good. Only one filling years ago so no intention of switching to electric. Just a gimmick in my opinion.

I don’t use an electric one as it makes me sneeze uncontrollably.

JennyForeigner · 20/11/2024 23:01

Yeah I do. I hate that I had a couple of electric ones break on me, so went to landfill. I use a bamboo toothbrush most of the time and am assiduous about mouthwash and so on. It's fine, I hope.

Woahtherehoney · 20/11/2024 23:01

Always used a manual toothbrush 2-3 times a day - never had a filling or any work done on my teeth at all and dentist said they’re in brilliant condition and perfectly clean. Happy with using a manual one!

Pigeonqueen · 20/11/2024 23:02

I’m 44 and never had an electric toothbrush. My son is a really light sleeper (autism!) and would wake up with the noise, the bathroom is next to his bedroom. So I’ve just stuck with manual!

Anonym00se · 20/11/2024 23:02

I’ve got an electric one but use a manual. I can’t stand the way it launches toothpaste saliva all over the mirror every time I try to move it in my mouth. Or the faff of having to press the button three times to turn it off and on to stop that happening.

EvilsElsasPetSnowman · 20/11/2024 23:02

Me!

I once saw on a TV show that it feels like you’re brushing your teeth with a bumblebee and I couldn’t agree more. I hate the feeling

SmalllChange · 20/11/2024 23:04

I keep buying them but returning to manual because my teeth feel cleaner, and it's less hassle.

BeensOnToost · 20/11/2024 23:10

I brush 2-3 times per day with a manual and my teeth are fine. A cursory scale the dentist at my yearly checkup is fine. No fillings since I was a child.

An electric might do a better job but I don't really need a better job. My teeth look nice and clean, I have no plaque or gum disease so fine suits me fine.

As long as you use gluoride toothpaste, don't rinse your mouth with water after brushing, or brush straight after eating, I don't think you can go far wrong.

snowlady4 · 20/11/2024 23:12

I use a non electric toothbrush. So does my dentist. Good enough for me

Fizbosshoes · 20/11/2024 23:15

Our dentist always asks me and kids what toothbrushes we use and we all have electric ones. (DH has a normal toothbrush) I'm never sure if it's a trick question, when I say electric toothbrush I feel like that's the answer she's hoping for....but no idea why! 🤣

I've got loads of fillings but I started having fillings before I started using an electric toothbrush if that's any relevance!

PicklesOfMany2024 · 20/11/2024 23:22

electric may be better but i use manual

MrsMoastyToasty · 20/11/2024 23:24

I use a battery powered toothbrush, because I don't have a electric socket in the bathroom to charge an electric toothbrush. Seems to do the job OK.

Questionary · 20/11/2024 23:26

I’ve only ever used a manual and so has DH

Briefly tried a battery one and hated it

Clarabellasingsthisbit · 20/11/2024 23:30

leia24 · 20/11/2024 22:41

Same, can't stand the feeling of an electric toothbrush

Same here.

musicalfrog · 20/11/2024 23:34

I get fed up of knocking them over, they're so top heavy it's too easy to send them flying!

MyOtherProfile · 20/11/2024 23:35

Can't bear electric toothbrushes. My dentist is also very happy for me to continue with manual.

Twinkletwinklelil · 20/11/2024 23:36

I actually prefer a manual one.. but I use both and alternate depending how I feel.
I feel a manual one can do better sometimes!!

BeatsAntique · 20/11/2024 23:40

I haven’t routinely used a manual toothbrush in many years, but I’ve had to in a pinch. My teeth definitely don’t feel as clean as when I use my electric.

benefitstaxcredithelp · 20/11/2024 23:41

Manual fan.
No fillings. Healthy teeth and gums. No flouride either.
