To ask if anyone still uses a non electric toothbrush?

Tonight I used an ordinary manual toothbrush, first time in ages as I was unable to use my electric one.

It felt strange.
Two questions I have, does everyone have an electric one today?

Is it possible to clean your teeth as well with one?
Or is it electric all the way for the best clean?😱

I use a battery powered toothbrush, because I don't have a electric socket in the bathroom to charge an electric toothbrush. Seems to do the job OK.

I don't have a bathroom socket either, I charge it overnight in my bedroom and it keeps it's charge for a week.

vegaspotty · 20/11/2024 23:43

I use electric toothbrush and my teeth look and feel cleaner. I occasionally use manual on holiday but teeth just don't look as scrubbed up .

Heelworkhero · 20/11/2024 23:44

@Runssometimes if you remove the head from the handle between uses and only place the handle on the charging unit when it’s almost out of charge, not each time of use, there’s zero crud anywhere.

Same.

I hate my electric toothbrush but really do need to use it. After years of seeing a dentist regularly I was suddenly told I'd been overbrushing with my manual one and ruined my teeth!

itsalwaysthesame · 21/11/2024 00:15

No I use a manual brush I do t like the feeling of electric brushes

SweetSugarPlum · 21/11/2024 00:41

I have an electric one but I never remember to charge it 🙄 so just use my manual one.

girlfriend44 · 21/11/2024 00:51

The manual blush seems so small.in your hand, after the electric one.

Never used an electric toothbrush.
Never had a filling or other tooth/gum problems; my dentist has always said how nice my teeth are.

Liannyil · 21/11/2024 01:47

I can't stand electric toothbrushes. I prefer manual ones. My older kids and my husband use electric ones. My 2 year old uses manual ones, which will stay that way until he learns not to throw his toothbrush in the toilet every chance he gets 🤦🏻‍♀️ I buy more toddler toothbrushes than ANYTHING else 🤣🫣

MeanderingGently · 21/11/2024 04:26

I have a manual, prefer it. I did buy an electric one a while back, I can't bear the vibrations and I didn't think it cleaned my teeth any better so I gave it away.

coffeesaveslives · 21/11/2024 05:49

Can't stand electric toothbrushes - I've always used a manual one and have always had perfect teeth 🤷‍♀️

Nothanks17 · 21/11/2024 06:41

Only ever used manual and dentist happy with my teeth. Never had a filling or anything out that wasn't supernumerary

LoveIsLikeAFartIfYouHaveToPushItsUsuallyShit · 21/11/2024 06:43

Two different manuals actually. 1 harder and one super soft one. Works great.
1 is foe morning one for evening

Vettrianofan · 21/11/2024 06:44

I use a manual in the morning, electric in the evening.

kiraric · 21/11/2024 06:45

I only use a manual toothbrush on holiday

I think teeth issues are very much about genetics though - I look after my teeth really well but have more fillings than DH who also drinks a lot of soft drinks and eats a lot of sweets. But that's just how our families are too.

HelenWheels · 21/11/2024 06:52

i had an electric for a few months but it broke, so back to the manual

ForGreyKoala · 21/11/2024 07:00

I use a manual toothbrush. I did try an electric one for a while but didn't like it so went back.

MissSmith80 · 21/11/2024 07:04

Haven't had time to read all the posts (got about half way through) but thought I'd add the conversation I had with my dentist last week. Sorry if someone has already said it.

The evidence is that if you have good brushing technique, a manual brush is as effective as electric. However, most people don't have good technique, particularly in the evening, which is why they usually recommend electric as electric provides a more consistent brush. As is often the case - it comes down to the individual.

professionaloverthinker · 21/11/2024 07:05

Ive only ever used a manual toothbrush. Not a single filling or had and dental work done. Same as my children

RampantIvy · 21/11/2024 07:09

DoYouReally · 20/11/2024 22:18

Have an electric one for years and believe my teeth are cleaner as a result. Zero evidence, just think they are.

My dentist says that electric toothbrushes make a better job of cleaning teeth than manual ones. He nagged me for years to get one. I use one now.

Also, cautionary tale. Friend brushes teeth loads of times every day. Dentist said only use electric toothbrush twice daily.

My dentist says the same.

Of course! The only time I've ever used an electric toothbrush it triggered a migraine so bad I was in bed for a week.

Same! I used one once and the vibrations were horrible. Total sensory overload.

Doitrightnow · 21/11/2024 07:21

I use manual. I was gifted an electric one once but didn't like the feel of it.

I am 44 and have one tiny filling where my gum is receeding, which I got when I was 41.

I'm happy with manual.

Augustus40 · 21/11/2024 07:31

I am old school. Manual and dental floss does me.

SpringleDingle · 21/11/2024 07:34

I use a manual… buzzy toothbrushes are horrible. My 47 year old teeth have no fillings and no cavities so I must do ok.
