This! Same with gym leggings etc. Fluids and smells definitely gather in the fabric in contact..
And don't get me started on the women who go knickerless in skirts and dresses. 🤢

The "fluids and smells" gather in the fabric regardless of whether you wear underpants or not. Please tell me you are washing your exercise clothing post-wear

EBearhug · 22/11/2024 00:39

RockyFowlboa · 22/11/2024 00:30

Why would you ever find out that women are pantless in skirts and dresses unless the garments in question were extremely short?

In one case because she ran up the tube escalator and her denim skirt was flared but not very long. It's not something I expected to see on the tube.

Ah. well that is very distasteful and unsat, to say the least

SnowFrogJelly · 22/11/2024 01:02

Odd!

SnowFrogJelly · 22/11/2024 01:03

Underwear was invented for a reason

RockyFowlboa · 22/11/2024 01:06

@SnowFrogJelly Underwear was invented in a time where water had to be drawn by hand (no indoor plumbing) and people could not wash their outerwear very often. So they wore easy-to-wash clothing underneath that they could soil and clean repeatedly.

Nowadays, most garments can be tossed in the washer and dyer and be wearable in the space of two hours or even less.

SnowFrogJelly · 22/11/2024 01:11

Thanks for the info!

Many outer clothes can be quickly washed and dried in a tumble dryer every time they are worn, but that doesn't mean they should be. They will wear out much more quickly and it's terrible for the environment. Changing underwear every day means that a skirt or loose trousers can be worn many times without getting dirty or smelly.

Disturbia81 · 22/11/2024 10:10

@RockyFowlboa Don't try and divert the attention, of course I wash all my clothes every day, even jeans.
It's grim to not wear underwear.

And I know so many people go without from these threads.

TheErinyes · 22/11/2024 10:16

RockyFowlboa · 21/11/2024 13:02

People keep saying that but not why

The whole point of underwear is that it’s a layer of clothes touching your body that keeps outer layers of clothes from being impregnated with bodily fluids and hence requiring less frequent washing. It’s really not that hard, unless you’re someone who happily wears the same underwear for days at a time.

This makes me think of those repulsive men who wear jogging bottoms with no pants and you can see their cocks through their trousers. It's like getting an unwanted dick pic 🤮

Even worse when you see them rummaging down there.

I had a neighbour like this, tight slinky nylon joggers every day with a stirrup under the foot so the fabric was kind of pulled taut over things, like a 70s PE teacher 😶
Hated bumping into him as you knew during the conversation, he was going to twang things around with his hand at least once...😖
I never, ever saw him in normal trousers.
Sorry, pants are a must in this house.

I've had many of my clothes for over a decade. I don't know if you guys aren't sweating/stinking/coming into contact with dirt and pet hair on a daily basis, but even if I did wear underwear... I would still wash my bottoms between wears.

Right, just repeat yourself about how "grim" it is without providing an actual, irrefutable reason for why you need underpants if you wash your clothes after wearing them. That definitely makes it true. 👌

I don't think underpants keep clothing from your body fluids, though. Like, we sweat (and I know I sweat a lot). My trousers' crotches smell like, well, crotch, after wearing them, regardless if I wear underpants or not. We sit on various public surfaces that generally aren't clean. Plus idk about you guys, but I have three dogs and a 3 yo. There's pet hair and food and often art supplies and whatever other kind of toddler-hand-mess on my clothes that needs to be washed out.

QuinionsRainbow · 22/11/2024 12:50

DH likes his equipment moderately well-constrained and has been a tanga/thong/jock-strap wearer for as long as I've known him. His current regular undiewear is H.I.S. thongs from Freemans, and he is always bemoaning the demise of civilised (i.e. non-fetish) T-backed thongs and jocks such as Debenhams used to sell. At bedtime, of course, its birthday suits all round.

CurlewKate · 22/11/2024 12:55

Weird.

Disturbia81 · 22/11/2024 20:40

@RockyFowlboa Just because I wash my clothes every night, doesn't mean I want my trousers while I'm going through my day to smell of crotch. My knickers protect them from that.
Most disagree with you, just live with it.

I'm perfectly fine with disagreement; it's just that none of you are making sense.

Sorry, but that is totally unnecessary. I'm not in the UK but we have notifications on TV here about washing clothing less, especially jeans. They don't need to be washed after every wear - unless you are not wearing underwear. Honestly, no wonder the planet is in the state it is!

I have pets and get fur on my clothes sometimes, but it brushes off easily enough. I change and wash my outer clothes whenever they get sweaty or have something spilt on them, but t doesn't happen all that often. Mostly in very hot weather, or after a long walk.
So long as they smell fresh and look clean, they don't need washing.

It only logically follows that:

  • if trouser/bottoms get dirty with every wear (sweat, dirt, pet hair, contact with public surfaces, etc.), regardless of whether you wear underpants
  • and you properly wash your trousers/bottoms between wears
  • and your trousers/bottoms cover all your bits
  • then it is not gross or unseemly to not wear underpants (unless your vaginal secretions are saturating the fabric, in which case, you should be using a sanitary pad.)

Where am I losing you?

Do you seriously think I am the only one on this thread who disagrees with you??

Did you miss my earlier post where, in the country I live in, we are actively encouraged to wash our clothes less. Washing your trousers/bottoms every single time you wear them is absolute madness. As for washing clothing because there is a bit of pet hair on it, or contact with public services???? I think you have a problem.

No, lots of people have insisted it's gross but could also not provide irrefutable reasons why. Like you, some are still doubling down.

My clothing will still smell and be dirty regardless of whether I wear underpants or not. I'm going to keep washing them between wears.

I don't know why people are acting like I'm the one who's being gross for washing my clothes regularly.
