To think I will eventually like the taste of coffee if I just keep drinking it?

I don’t currently like the taste of coffee but I need to start drinking it because I need Caffeine, I’m struggling to get through the days without feeling tired, I have a baby (14 months old) and I also work full time. Is it likely that I will eventually come to like the taste of Coffee once I’m addicted if I just keep drinking it? I don’t like the taste of coffee currently but I need to come to like it eventually because I need Caffeine to help me get through the days! I’m wondering if I will eventually come to like the taste of it once I’m addicted if I just keep drinking it? I’ve been drinking it for the past few days but I really don’t like the taste of it at the moment, I do wonder if I will just eventually come to like the taste though once I’m addicted to it if I just push through for now and keep drinking it? My friends have said I will come to like the taste of it once I’m addicted but I’m not sure if they’re right about that or if they are just saying it because they already like coffee and can’t imagine not liking it!

What’s with all the coffee threads today?

WingBingo · 20/11/2024 19:48

I did it with cups of tea after years of thinking I didn’t enjoy tea.

it’s lovely stuff, so you never know

WingBingo · 20/11/2024 19:49

And yes, what is with all the coffee threads today?

sammycrisp · 20/11/2024 19:49

This is why I drink Red Bull Grin

I'm a parent carer and I get it OP. I have always wanted to like coffee but I just can't!

username358 · 20/11/2024 19:50

Why coffee? You can drink energy drinks, they have a lot of caffeine like Red Bull, or even take pro plus.

reesiespieces · 20/11/2024 19:50

Tea and soda has caffeine too

LSTMS30555 · 20/11/2024 19:50

If you like tea that also has caffeine but if you're wanting more caffeine get the Nescafé cappuccinos/mochas/lattes etc... different flavours and can't really taste the coffee in them.

coxesorangepippin · 20/11/2024 19:50

Coffee troll???

We're reaching new lows here on MN

HornyHornersPinkyWinky · 20/11/2024 19:51

OP just make yourself a milky latte with vanilla syrup like I do - I still get a caffeine fix without a very strong coffee taste.

worcesterpear · 20/11/2024 19:51

I think so, I did partly as a way to drink hot drinks apart from hot chocolate as I don't like tea, and partly as a way to get caffeine without drinking diet coke all the time.

Start on lattes with a flavour, after a while you will often find these too sickly so then you can switch onto cappuccino or flat whites.

HarrietSchulenberg · 20/11/2024 19:55

No, you can't. I've tried hard to acquire the taste for the last 30 years and never quite managed it.
I've finally decided to give up and stick to tea, which I do like.

Did it work for you with coffee? Did you just come to like the taste eventually after drinking it for a while? I’ll try lattes first, I’ve had some over the past few days and didn’t like the taste but I’ll keep drinking them and just see if I come to eventually like the coffee taste once addicted to it.

I think you didn’t consider that once you’ve become addicted to it, you will like the taste. Then again, you may not like the taste until you become addicted to it…

tarheelbaby · 20/11/2024 19:59

I've never really cottoned on with coffee. It's been many decades now but I'm still not hooked. Don't worry if you can't join the club; plus is it worth it? Also, I have found that I have a range of unpleasant reactions to caffein so maybe that is true for you?

So once I’m addicted to it I’ll come to like the taste of it eventually?

I hope so OP. I drink energy drinks for the caffeine boost currently as I don't like the taste of coffee or in fact hot drinks in general, but they feel like they are rotting my insides as soon as I've drunk them. I'm trying to make myself like coffee. I tried an iced caramel can over the weekend thinking the sweetness and coldness would cancel out the coffee flavour, but it was hard work getting it down. Place marking for tips!
(Obviously the alternative is to make life less busy so the caffeine is unnecessary, but this feels incompatible with modern life/the household's life stage)

anonny55 · 20/11/2024 20:03

The only coffee I really like is an iced latte or the Nescafé instant latte mixes for hot coffee. Used to hate it altogether. Start off with only 1 shot of coffee in your Starbucks order and work your way up..it worked for me😆 I love it now and have 1 coffee a day. My favourite order from Starbucks is

Caramel Iced latte
Almond milk
1 shot of coffee

FannyCradocksDoughnut · 20/11/2024 20:07

I started off with milky sweetened instant as a child. Now I adore real filter coffee with a little milk, if you make it yourself you can adjust the strength 😋

Doitrightnow · 20/11/2024 20:17

In my experience no. I still hate the taste and on the rare occasions I have to drink it for etiquette's sake it gives me a thumping headache.

Why would you want to get addicted to something that's bad for you anyway?! I know someone who was addicted to Red Bull and felt soooo much better when he gave it up. The caffeine kept him awake too well and gave him insomnia and anxiety.

I'd find another way to get through the day. Power naps? I used to power nap in my lunch break and on the bus home from work 😂

Armadillosparkle · 20/11/2024 20:19

I don’t think you’ll end up liking it. I never have (I’ve tried on and off for 15 years. Maybe try red bull, pro plus or Diet Coke?

Missmarymack2 · 20/11/2024 20:30

I didn’t like coffee when I was younger. Used to drink energy drinks. I started drinking coffee to get me through 13 hour shifts.
started off with milky coffees like cappuccinos with sugar. After I got a taste of it I stopped the sugar. After a few years switched to americanos with a dash of milk and haven’t looked back. I love coffee now. Would not touch an energy drink.. the thoughts of a red bull makes me sick.

worcesterpear · 20/11/2024 20:31

@GymGirlMama yes I do usually (there are times when I find it too strong or bitter). And I prefer coffees from shops or bean to cup coffee makers. If you don't like it I'd leave it for a bit. Or actually you could try mochas from a coffee shop, another good way in.

FrauPaige · 20/11/2024 20:32

I am also not a fan of the taste of coffee so I understand the predicament. I use green tea - it's far more drinkable than coffee for me so the 50% less caffeine content per cup is moot as you can drink double as much.

There are also caffeine chews and guns that unlike coffee actually make your breath smell nice!

Good luck! Let me know if you find any suggestions or advice that works please! I’ll let you know if I find any too!

Just get espresso pods, there only a shot, really strong and you can knock ‘em back like medicine.
