To think I will eventually like the taste of coffee if I just keep drinking it?

I don’t currently like the taste of coffee but I need to start drinking it because I need Caffeine, I’m struggling to get through the days without feeling tired, I have a baby (14 months old) and I also work full time. Is it likely that I will eventually come to like the taste of Coffee once I’m addicted if I just keep drinking it? I don’t like the taste of coffee currently but I need to come to like it eventually because I need Caffeine to help me get through the days! I’m wondering if I will eventually come to like the taste of it once I’m addicted if I just keep drinking it? I’ve been drinking it for the past few days but I really don’t like the taste of it at the moment, I do wonder if I will just eventually come to like the taste though once I’m addicted to it if I just push through for now and keep drinking it? My friends have said I will come to like the taste of it once I’m addicted but I’m not sure if they’re right about that or if they are just saying it because they already like coffee and can’t imagine not liking it!

I am also not a fan of the taste of coffee so I understand the predicament. I use green tea - it's far more drinkable than coffee for me so the 50% less caffeine content per cup is moot as you can drink double as much.

There are also caffeine chews and guns that unlike coffee actually make your breath smell nice!

I don’t like tea either though.

I was hoping I would eventually grow to like the taste if I just keep drinking it but now I’m not sure! I need to find a way to like the taste somehow though!

Take caffeine pills instead. I hate coffee. If I need a boost I just have a pill. Should be available OTC.

I’ll try one! I did already try an iced latte at one point in Costa and it tasted a bit strong, didn’t like the taste of it but that’s mainly the coffee taste that I didn’t like. I haven’t tried a caramel one though.

Hot chocolate to mocha to cappuccino…that progression worked for me - only took up coffee after having kids. Still can’t stomach tea though!

This is the weirdest thing I have read today.

Just take some pro plus

Minnowmeow · 20/11/2024 21:20

Yes I did…. It was initially with caramel lattes but now happily drink it without flavouring. Only drank the caramel lattes as a colleague used to get me one and I was too polite to tell them I didn’t want one when we worked together on a project.

Peachy2005 · 20/11/2024 21:21

Costa makes their mocha too chocolatey though. Ask for half the usual amount of chocolate powder.

Do you like Tiramisu? If not, I don’t think you’re going to suddenly develop a taste for coffee. M&S does a nice Cappuccino chocolate bar too, maybe try see if you can cultivate the taste for coffee in a few other things.

Anonym00se · 20/11/2024 21:21

Beyond weird. Why are you so desperate to become addicted to caffeine? Why start multiple threads on the subject? If you don’t like coffee, don’t drink it! If you’re really desperate for caffeine you can take Pro Plus as pp has already stated. You sound strangely obsessed with coffee.

GaryLurcher19 · 20/11/2024 21:25

OP, some people just aren't coffee drinkers. Why do you want to drink something that you dislike?

If you already drink something else with caffeine in, why not just drink more of that?

If you don't drink anything with caffeine in, what makes you think you need caffeine?

If you're struggling with tiredness or lethargy you should speak to your doctor about it as it could be due to any of a number of causes.

Why the he'll are there three new threads on AIBU this evening about learning to like coffee? Was it a class assignment? Has Alexa got bored?

Clingfilm · 20/11/2024 22:04

This can't be real. The weird repetition in the first paragraph alone?

Sunshineandrainbows23 · 20/11/2024 22:50

I hate coffee too so no advice there. I'm not sure that caffeine will really help you with more energy though apart from a short term "fix"? It'll likely wear you out more in the longer term. Lots of friends of mine are trying to cut down/out coffee as they are tired from not sleeping due to drinking too much coffee. I'm just wondering if you need blood tests or a check up to see why you are so tired, assuming it's not lifestyle of course.

Good luck! Let me know if you find any suggestions or advice that works please! I’ll let you know if I find any too!

Kombucha.

I said this on the other thread.

Yeah, very bot-like.

Singleandproud · 20/11/2024 22:56

The flavoured ones barely taste of coffee, Double Brownie, Cookie dough etc, probably full of sugar too so will keep you going

NamelessNancy · 20/11/2024 23:00

Gosh, everyone wants to nurture a coffee addiction today! How unusual.

WimpoleHat · 20/11/2024 23:00

Try American style coffee - ie weak black filter coffee - as a first go. It’s quite refreshing, especially with sweet things. Once you’ve got used to the taste, you might prefer the stronger, thicker “proper” coffee that you get in Italian cafes. (I’ve never got past the filter stage, I must admit, so I tend only to drink coffee at home!)
