For asking colleague to stop clipping his nails in the office?

Just that, really.
I don't think I was rude, just said something along the lines of, "Joe, can you please not do that here?" He ignored me and carried on, saying, "I'm only cutting my nails". I then said, "Can you please do that in the bathroom? It's really antisocial to do that here." He then walked out in a bit of a huff.
Was I BU?

No, you weren't!

rubyslippers · 20/11/2024 16:32

That is GRIM
YANBU

I hate the noise of it
yuck

Poggishairtufts · 20/11/2024 16:33

Eugh. Sackable offence.

quirkychick · 20/11/2024 16:34

Er no, it's really inappropriate. The bathroom (preferably at home) is the best place.

AgnesX · 20/11/2024 16:34

Jeez. Some people beggar belief 🙄
You were polite given the circumstances.

Moveoverdarlin · 20/11/2024 16:34

It’s vile.

Mumofgirls24 · 20/11/2024 16:35

Revolting.

MothToAnInferno · 20/11/2024 16:37

Unless it was his toenails I actually don't see the big deal. I've seen women filing their nails in public and no body has keeled over on shock, I don't see how this any different.

tinydynamine · 20/11/2024 16:42

Why doesn't he do it at home?

fivebyfivebuffy · 20/11/2024 16:43

I've filed a nail at my desk when it's broken but that somehow seems different
Maybe as it's like a 5 second job rather than doing all my nails?

username358 · 20/11/2024 16:59

What is wrong with some people? If he's so desperate to clip his nails, why can't he wait till lunch time?

OriginalUsername2 · 20/11/2024 17:26

We need one of you in all offices! I’m sure others are silently 🙏

W0tnow · 20/11/2024 17:28

Eww. Joe, if you think millennial is unreasonable, as your wife her opinion.

bengalcat · 20/11/2024 17:30

Toenails would get me :)

whatafaf · 20/11/2024 17:30

YADNBU. It's annoying to hear and just nasty. Nails be they toes or fingers should not be filed or cut in the office or on public transport flinging dead cells around.

Basilsage · 20/11/2024 17:53

No! Yuk

Redlarge · 20/11/2024 17:54

Absolutely disgusting and unprofessional

Curtainqueen · 20/11/2024 17:55

Anyone would think he was spitting infected blood around the office the way some people are reacting on here. Someone clipping their nails in the office is hardly front page news. Even HR would laugh at some of these responses.

MillenialAvocado · 20/11/2024 17:55

Ok I'm glad it's not just me then! I usually just seethe silently about this stuff, but I just find the sound of nail clippers so triggering I had to say something 🤮

Haha you bunch of weirdos (affectionately meant!!) 😁. I couldn't get worked up by this at all. My issue would be why isn't Joe getting on with his bloody job!! Work shy bugger!

Gettingbysomehow · 20/11/2024 17:59

Thats bloody disgusting, nail clippings everywhere. Twat.

Talipesmum · 20/11/2024 18:00

This is definitely a v divisive thing - I know a few people who genuinely think nothing of it, equate it with brushing hair, very minor, not personal or grim. And probably more who think it’s totally disgusting!

One of my friends who was accused of grimness for nail clipping wondered perhaps if it was a musician thing - guitar teacher would always keep nail clippers on hand for sorting out fingernails in lessons, and they’d just equated it with a practical thing.

TomatoSandwiches · 20/11/2024 18:03

That's not on, clipping nails can land anywhere, what if they landed on you?!

It's a private grooming job = bathroom job.

Gettingbysomehow · 20/11/2024 18:14

I dont understand those people who think this is ok. Were you born in a barn?

BobbyBiscuits · 20/11/2024 18:17

Absolutely rank. Can you tell his line manager? You'd think others would see and also complain.
If you had to do it, then in the toilets, in a cubicle, and pick them up?
But surely you do it in your own bathroom?!
