For asking colleague to stop clipping his nails in the office?

Just that, really.
I don't think I was rude, just said something along the lines of, "Joe, can you please not do that here?" He ignored me and carried on, saying, "I'm only cutting my nails". I then said, "Can you please do that in the bathroom? It's really antisocial to do that here." He then walked out in a bit of a huff.
Was I BU?

That's disgusting. What's wrong with people.

I dont understand those people who think this is ok. Were you born in a barn?

They are the same nails he is walking around with all day. I don't get why when they are in a pile on his desk/go in the bin the suddenly turn 'rank'. I can't say I have ever been tempted to clip my nails in public but I wouldn't think it gross if someone did so long as they are disposed of and not left lying around.

I was in an Uber in Dublin a couple of weeks ago and the driver was clipping his nails whilst sat in traffic, I was pretty shocked!

Totally gross

Personal grooming is done at home not at work.

Googlyboox · 20/11/2024 18:47

I gagged.

Unless it was his toenails I actually don't see the big deal. I've seen women filing their nails in public and no body has keeled over on shock, I don't see how this any different.

Filing has no risk of a kamikaze ricochet situation

Moonshine5 · 20/11/2024 18:51

I would have vomited - what's wrong with people. Next time point and loudly say ' ugh, this is not your bathroom!'.
Completely unprofessional
Ps. I do have misophonia

ThePoshUns · 20/11/2024 19:16

That is so grim.
Not on in the office.

Anyone would think he was spitting infected blood around the office the way some people are reacting on here. Someone clipping their nails in the office is hardly front page news. Even HR would laugh at some of these responses.

You wouldn’t be saying that if one of those clippings landed in yer coffee and you didn’t notice until you’d swallowed it.

Maggiethecat · 20/11/2024 21:25

Personal grooming in a shared office is not on. Clipping nails, brushing out hair, spraying on deodorant- why can’t these be done in the bathroom instead of subjecting colleagues to flying nails, hair and deodorant fumes (I had a PA who would suffocate us for a few mins every evening).
