If your Dh owned this coat, would you make it mysteriously ‘Disappear’

I hate it!

He has lots of lovely clothes, new coat this winter, but always pulls this horror out. A hillbilly, scruffy, donkey jacket.
I realise it’s up to him what he wants to wear and he’s a grown man and it would be wrong for it to mysteriously‘Disappear’

But…would you make this coat mysteriously disappear?

Tbh, it happened more when we were younger. He has actually got a little more discerning in his old age and will toss things out of his own accord.
I have never worn clothes into that state. I can't imagine holding on to them.

That’s not really answering if you’d be happy for him to decide something of yours was past it’s best and bin it or not…

Hellohelga · 20/11/2024 21:13

You need to find a way to manipulate him into getting rid himself.

My DH once got an unflattering fleece (baggy, drab colour) and I told him I thought he was BIL when I walked in (they look similar and I actually did) and that I wouldn’t be having any sex with him any time soon as it would feel like shagging BIL. Never saw it again.

I didn't know that's what donkey jackets were. It does look nice and cosy if it's real sheepskin, but if you hate how it looks on him, hide it at the back of a cupboard or something.

That's because it isn't a donkey jacket.
I was debating whether to post to say that but thought I'd get torn apart for being pedantic. So glad that a couple of others got there before me

This is a donkey jacket. Very popular on picket lines in the 70s and 80s.

Yes thats a donkey jacket. All the lads wore them in the 80s.

Cantbearsedwiththosepeskyelves · 20/11/2024 21:17

@cariadlet I already said I just called it a donkey jacket as It just seems to fit being called it

Can you spill something on it? Tell him his bum looks big in it?

Perhaps slowly stitch it tighter around the seams (shoulders and waist!) until he thinks it doesn't fit anymore?

Stitch it tighter - LOVE IT

@Boing98 Oh ffs, slightly dramatic…I’m not abusive or controlling, I just have aversion to this coat

but to many people your actions would amout to controlling weather you intend to or not

Well it has the look of a dead donkey.

ivegoneswimming · 20/11/2024 21:29

I don't think some people know what a real controlling relationship looks like.

It's a shit coat. I think OP was just having a laugh.

GaryLurcher19 · 20/11/2024 21:37

OP, you aren't being unreasonable for hating it.

YABVU for calling it a donkey jacket however. It is not a donkey jacket.

It's a sheepskin.

You would be unreasonable to get rid of it behind his back. You wouldn't be unreasonable to suggest to him that he owns more attractive coats.

VegTrug · 20/11/2024 21:37

Is your husband DelBoy?

The problem with the clothing is not that it's old or past its best, it's fucked.
Our middle and youngest children are the same and have ASD. Very likely dh has too.
I am extremely tolerant of the clothes attachment they all share but I won't let my kids go about looking neglected and insist on binning stuff once it becomes an actual rag.
I have never binned anything remotely serviceable.

Of course I'd be pissed off if my dh threw away a serviceable item because it was old. I wouldn't toss anything that still had any life left in it. I wouldn't throw something away just because I didn't like it.
Gaping ripped seams and little holes everywhere through being washed a zillion times, collars become detached from fabric, elbows poking through holes, cuffs hanging off, stains. That's what I'm talking about. Not just a bit worn out...I couldn't care less about that. The item is done.

I do not have an equivalent item for him to sling out.

I'm trying to explain myself here...but maybe not very well.
I wonder if other mums/wives of ASD kids/husbands can relate?

pictoosh · 20/11/2024 21:44

Sorry - I posted before I saw that post of yours. I'm on the app on my phone so can't see how many pages are on a thread. I'd scrolled so much that I thought I must be almost at the end which is why I posted.

Sew badges all over it.

Pippy2022 · 20/11/2024 21:48

Depends how good looking your partner is!

EnYar · 20/11/2024 21:49

100%.

Teaandtoastedbiscuits · 20/11/2024 21:50

Yes I would

pictoosh · 20/11/2024 21:53

In fact, I'm looking at dh now and he is wearing an old Los Pollos Hermanos t-shirt that I bought him approximately 15 years ago, with a hole in one armpit and on which the neck has gone all stretchy and loose. It has slowly shrunk too. Used to be white.
I know he has sensory issues so I'll leave it for now.
For now.

hanali · 20/11/2024 21:54

I'm glad some people on the first three pages I've read have called out Op on this post. Even passive or making light of controlling behaviour should not be made acceptable.

Cantbearsedwiththosepeskyelves · 20/11/2024 21:56

@Pippy2022 Why 😂

You are now making me wonder if my DH has ASD, and I am too old for that now!

Pippy2022 · 20/11/2024 21:59

Cantbearsedwiththosepeskyelves · 20/11/2024 21:56

@Pippy2022 Why 😂

A handsome chap will look good in anything.

I don't mind the jacket, depending on where he wears it. It's rugged. Informal. Context is everything.
