What age would you say my child was

From this?

Please be honest.

My dc has been ill since June and unable to attend school, I’ve been doing some work with her at home, however, she’s too ill
most of the time and my main focus is on getting her better. Her educational development is niggling away at me a little now though. She reads well, is eloquent in her speaking and her maths seems good. Her writing to me seems lower than it should be, will she catch up when better?

What age would you say my child was

Anywhere from 4 to 7 or 8.

TeddyBeans · 19/11/2024 20:41

Very similar to my son who is year 2. His reading is beautiful but his writing is lack lustre. We are working on it a lot at home

MaryGreenhill · 19/11/2024 20:42

She will catch up please don't worry as long as she is well.
I am not going to say what age l think she is because that will feed until your anxiety. Bless you both.

BarbaraHoward · 19/11/2024 20:42

I would say that is probably at the standard my DD was doing in P2, so 5/6.

HOWEVER, if your DD has been so sick she's missed months of school, then who cares. Try make basic literacy and numeracy something she enjoys rather than a chore and then you can fill in the blanks when she's well. Flowers

UnrealRita · 19/11/2024 20:42

These posts always end in upset. I wouldn't ask OP. There will always be some clever clogs who will say one years old.

Therewerenosnowdaysinthenineties · 19/11/2024 20:42

It says ‘Gifts for mummy, Care bear pj top and pants’
Not sure of the bottom part, maybe an envelope with mum on.

4, Reception class, spring or summer born.

itsmylife7 · 19/11/2024 20:42

Writing will definitely improve with practice and age.

Her health is the most important thing. 😊

Octavia64 · 19/11/2024 20:43

If she is ill then I would not be concentrating on her writing.

There are a few reversed letters but kids often do that at any point from when they learn them until about 7 or 8.

Interlaken · 19/11/2024 20:43

OMG that is so adorable. Gifts for mummy.
Cake; Bear; PJ Top and Pants. Someone loves their Mum… regardless of what age they are.

I echo this!

Very best wishes to your wee girl.

okayhescereal · 19/11/2024 20:45

Anywhere from reception to year 2...but only because I only know kids in those brackets and don't know if this style continues into year 3 or beyond with some kids. Maybe it does.

I love the content of the writing though, what a love!!!

Allnewtometoo · 19/11/2024 20:45

Ds2 is 7, year 3 and its this year his writing had improved. So I'd say 5/6. But that's not taking illness into account.

It's so variable though OP. It's a lovely list.

Guavafish1 · 19/11/2024 20:46

6-8 years old

BakedAlaska12 · 19/11/2024 20:47

year 1 level (lower end) age 5/6.

Not sure of the bottom part, maybe an envelope with mum on.

And pants I think at the bottom?
Wild stab from a notaparent my guess was 6ish.
I'm quite impressed by the correct spelling of care bear though, and the spelling generally is pretty good, so maybe older. it's the handwriting and layout that makes me think younger.

But if she's been off since June I assume she's proper ill, not just a virus or something and has missed loads. So I really wouldn't worry, and at that age, yes, she will absolutely catch up in leaps and bounds later on.

mynameiscalypso · 19/11/2024 20:48

The handwriting and drawing are much better than my Year 1 DS. I definitely wouldn't worry too much in your shoes though. I hope your DD is in the road to recovery.

Dishwashersaurous · 19/11/2024 20:48

If she is ill, then focusing on her getting better is the most important thing.

Get her to do drawing to improve her fine motor skills, rather than writing specifically.

But on you actual question. First half of infants, so reception, year 1. Age 4-6

NotARealWookiie · 19/11/2024 20:49

Reception, year 1 or 2 (age 4-6)

BakedAlaska12 · 19/11/2024 20:49

Actually yes, as pp said the spelling is good it is just the handwriting. So maybe older than I though.
To me the handwriting looks like the beginning of year 1 but the spellings are more year 2.

SleepFinally · 19/11/2024 20:49

Anywhere between 4 and 7/8.

So variable at this age

Dramatic · 19/11/2024 20:50

I'd guess around 6 or 7, year 2 or 3 at school. My step daughter is 9 and her hand writing is pretty much illegible

pimplebum · 19/11/2024 20:52

she is so sick she she hasn’t been in school since June she should get home education tutor
hope she is well soon

NuffSaidSam · 19/11/2024 20:52

From the handwriting I'd guess about 4.

But from the spelling I'd say 6/7.

RosesAndHellebores · 19/11/2024 20:52

Dd was writing like that at the end if Yr2. She took a first from Cambridge aged 22.

She hadn't been ill.
