Should we be worried about war

Seen a lot in the news about Ukraine using USA missiles against Russia. I've been thinking more along the lines that it won't start a WW3 and will resolve at some point without the UK getting directly involved in war. But there seems to be more and more tension and threats of an all out war recently.

Should we be worried about WW3? I haven't been prepping or anything but does make me wonder if I should start getting a few days worth of food in case. At the same time I don't want to go down the prepper hole and start getting over the top.

So you would let the aggressor take over Ukraine? and the 44m people living there.. what about them?

The only language Putin understands is strength, time and time again, he escalates in the face of weakness.

Putin wont take any notice of Trump if he tries to appease him, which ironically would mean Trump arms Ukraine even more.

Who care about Russian losses? i don't, they shouldn't be there... Ukrainian ones, absolutely.

Yes, people seem to be missing here that bending over for Putin is the opposite of caution. Sometimes you put yourself at more risk by not fighting back. It's not rocket science, most people understand that on a basic level, but some of them start with the magical thinking once a dictator is involved.

You should watch at least the first 30 mins (history section) of the Putin/Tucker interview. Very interesting.

Factually bollocks.
But I suppose that's interesting to some people.

So Russia taking over Ukraine is ok by you? Then Poland?

I think you need to look at the historical roots of this conflict. I’m not pro-Russia by any means, but I can see what’s blatantly obvious in terms of NATO’s behaviour in the region, not least the catastrophic loss of Ukrainian lives acting as its proxy.

There is of course no chance that Ukrainians might have any of their own agency here, that they might not actually fancy being occupied by Russia. Nah. They're only the West's proxies. Not real people like we are.

Exactly, how bloody insulting!

Not pro- Russia really?

NATO is an organisation designed to keep the peace.

Artistbythewater · 19/11/2024 18:29

We know lots of wonderful Ukrainians now, and every single one of them hates Russia and wants a democratic country and an outward looking future. They are fighting to the death for independence and bloody good on them. It is their country, their future and they will never surrender to Putin. Not a chance.

herecomesautumn · 19/11/2024 18:30

@Verbena17 Tucker? You mean Carlson who has publicly stated that he's not a journalist and who was sacked from fox

Whats interesting about what he has to say?

Usually the way. I always seem to notice an uptick whenever Russia have taken an L or had some particularly unwelcome news, too. Funny that.

Yes me too.

Being prepared for those just in case times isn’t just about war.

You could get Ill and not be able to shop, or there could be snow. All sorts of things.
I always have extras in, yes even lots of toilet roll🤣.

If you have the space it’s worth doing.

PS Where are you @icecreamscoops ( if you’re ok to say ). Happy with basic longitude and latitude 🙃

Sweden! However Norway and finland also sent out the leaflet, it made it to the bbc news

herecomesautumn · 19/11/2024 18:32

@SuperfluousHen I'm a wee bit thick so please could you explain about NATO in the region.

If Ukraine were in NATO then I'm assuming the russians wouldn't have launched a murderous savage and barbaric invasion 🤷🏻‍♀️

KimFan · 19/11/2024 18:32

Absolutely no point worrying about it, so I don’t.

They are neighbours living right next door to a madman. Of course they are going to send out leaflets. I’m sure they wish the geography was different but it’s not.

Charlize43 · 19/11/2024 18:34

I'd like to go out in vintage chiffon. Nothing too obvious. Black is definitely out. Maybe a nice emerald colour. Lots of layers of chiffon, so when they drop the nukes I can flare up from green to red like a glorious roman candle.

I wonder if chiffon is just too Barbara Cartland... Definitely don't want to be wearing anything tailored in an atomic blast. No shoulder pads and peplum. Far too uncomfortable.

Nogaxeh · 19/11/2024 18:34

I'm very concerned that Britain isn't ready to defend itself, and isn't reacting with the urgency required to be able to defend itself at some point in the future.

We've been very complacent about our security for a long time and we'll have no-one to blame but ourselves when the chickens come home to roost.

All the arguments over minor tax and spending decisions will look very petty when we realise that we've massively underspent on defence for many years and wished that we hadn't.

We are a nuclear country with the most advanced war fare. Do not fret. A war these days won’t be won with boots on the ground…

thingymijigi · 19/11/2024 18:36

Both sides are already talking about a negotiated settlement. However, it will ramp up in the short term as both Ukraine and Russia will want to be in the best negotiating position in advance. It's usual tactics.

DogInATent · 19/11/2024 18:36

Alexandra2001 · 19/11/2024 18:23

Yes that was sort of my understanding of it based on memory!

My point is that if we were to be involved in uk forces in Ukraine, we'd not have time to upgrade the Chally 2 barrels, i think the full swap out is years away!!!

It's been done at least once, and the replacement gun and barrel itself is standard. If the UK is going to continue to operate the 2s alongside the 3s as they eventually come off the production line, something will have to be done as the Ukrainian ammunition expenditure won't have been part of the original calculation - although given how few 2s Ukraine are operating it may be a while before stocks run low enough to be critical. There will be sufficient war stocks for a deployment.

The Baltic States are in NATO. Used to be in the USSR. Used to be part of the Russian Empire. Substantial Russian-speaking minority. Very similar to Ukraine. Not invaded by Russia.

If Ukraine had joined NATO at the same time the Baltic States had then Russia would not had dared to invade in 2014 or 2022.

Hillsmakeyoustrong · 19/11/2024 18:37

We have had a lot of visitors to the Ukraine threads over the last (nearly) 3 years. They get short shrift. They are very easily identified, initially come in with a 'reasonable' tone but give themselves away quite quickly.

I totally agree with this
