I'm watching it on YouTube at the moment. So many laughs and yet so many lump in throat moments. Superb acting.
Anyone else watched it?

Yes! Loved it. I wasn't expecting it to be so sad at points. She was a wonderful writer.

Createausername1970 · 18/11/2024 19:02

Every time anyone mentions Victoria Wood, I just think

"beat me on the bottom with a Women's Weekly".

I loved Dinner Ladies.

She went too soon.

Uppitywoman · 18/11/2024 19:07

Yes! Several times and it still makes me smile.

Auburngal · 18/11/2024 19:08

I love Victoria Wood. Love dinnerladies. Very funny. That show was the breakthrough show for Maxine Peake.

Intheoldendays · 18/11/2024 19:08

It is. It's wonderful!

Needhelp101 · 18/11/2024 19:08

Way too soon.

There's the bit in the hotel, when Margaret is trying to make the best of it and talking about pillows and her voice just breaks and falters. Brought tears to my eyes.

Thora Herd is fantastic too. "There was no such thing as dyslexia in those days. You were sat at the back, with raffia."

Yes it's amazing

Auburngal · 18/11/2024 19:08

Not forgetting Kim-BER-ley's friend.

Auburngal · 18/11/2024 19:10

Housewife, 49, is wonderful too. Not sure if its on any streaming service at the moment.

Thedogscollar · 18/11/2024 19:27

Beautifully written and acted.
Victoria was a supreme talent.

PictureItSicily · 18/11/2024 19:36

I love Pat and Margaret. So funny and moving. Margaret reminds me so much of Bren in Dinnerladies.

MasterBeth · 18/11/2024 19:37

Of all the too-early celebrity deaths in that crazy year, 2016, Victoria Wood's was the one I found most upsetting. Brilliant writer and performer.

Needhelp101 · 18/11/2024 21:44

You can absolutely see how Dinner Ladies came about.

I just love the character development of the two sisters, particularly Pat. And also when she gets jet washed and has to end up wearing a shell suit 🙂

"I don't know what you'd pay for that in Hollywood, but round here on the market, it's £10.99"
Pat, after a moment's reflection"Cheek. It's £12"

“Not on the eiderdown!”, love it, watch it every so often, I’d love a perm I could go trick or treating in 😂

Animatron · 18/11/2024 21:49

Oh god I love Victoria Wood. I might have to find it on Youtube and watch it with you.

JoanChitty · 18/11/2024 22:03

Love Victoria Wood. I really enjoyed Pat and Margaret. Loved Housewife,49 and That day we sang. I also really liked Eric and Ernie where she played Eric Morecambe’s mum.
Such a talented woman and gone much too soon.

soupfiend · 18/11/2024 22:08

Genuis

Not from Pat and Margaret but I often repeat in my head

Cum back Ken, its up to me glasses

and

I'll have a RASPberry yoghurt and if they havent got a RASPberry yoghurt, I'll have a pork pie.

CheerfulBunny · 18/11/2024 22:08

It's absolutely sublime. I particularly love Celia Imrie in it.
VW could make you laugh out loud then break your heart in a minute. What a talent.

MsAdoraBelleDearheartVonLipwig · 18/11/2024 22:36

Much, much missed.

I’ve got two of her screenplay books, Up To You Porky and Barmy. Used to read them with my mum. We’d be in fits. Used to howl with laughter at her As Seen on TV.

Hellman’s anyone?

Hobbesmanc · 18/11/2024 22:40

I can watch that and Housewife over and over. I wish she'd lived to do more. Devastating loss

msmatcha · 18/11/2024 22:44

Thanks OP!

"Making rude gestures with doner kebabs" is the line that creases me up!

Also a VW fan. The authorised biography of her is fascinating.
