To ask your resting heart rate

Kate489 · 18/11/2024 17:46

Mine is averaging 55bpm, which Dr Google says is too low unless I'm an athlete. I'm not an athlete. I would manage a 5km in 37 minutes at a push nowadays.

Wondering what yours is?

50 according to my Apple Watch.

I'm nearly 64, and have treated hypothyroidism which maybe lowers it a tadge? Reasonably fit for my age

Anyway, I recently had a full MOT with stress ecg etc., no heart problems identified.

Skyrainlight · 18/11/2024 18:57

Mine is 60 and I'm very unfit at the moment. Slower heart rates can be genetic. Mine has always been fairly slow.

YouveGotNoBloodyIdea · 18/11/2024 18:57

55 usually - I'm 70, walk every day for 30mins - 1hr depending on weather, bit of gardening, but no athlete. I also have naturally low blood pressure, so I guess this is just my normal.

changedusernameforthis1 · 18/11/2024 19:00

74 atm, but it goes down to around 58-62 when I'm asleep. I'm on beta blockers for anxiety and if I forget to take them it's usually around 110 but my GP doesn't seem that concerned.

gamerchick · 18/11/2024 19:01

Hovers in the 50s. Normal for me.

JarvisIsland · 18/11/2024 19:03

Garmin ‘resting HR’ which is actually done overnight fluctuates between 49 and 55 depending on a number of factors, menstrual cycle, stress, activity levels etc. Sat at work but using the computer/phone etc is mid 60s - low 70s. Not a runner but do play a heavily anaerobic sport (stop/start so HR recovery rate is more useful/trained than an overall endurance athlete HR)

Borgonzola · 18/11/2024 19:04

Normally about 65 but currently 82 - 6m pregnant.

DandyTealSeal · 18/11/2024 19:04

Mines between 37-44. I am so far from an athlete but I’ve had it checked out. No concerns raised.

weaselpatrol · 18/11/2024 19:06

Mine averages at around 55. I’m in my 40s and run 5 times a week.

NeedToChangeName · 18/11/2024 18:39

73, according to my oximeter

Readings on this thread seem lower than I expected. I thought 50-90 was normal

I thought similar. Average for population is around 70bpm. I think people might be confusing resting heart rate with the lowest rate their watch shows during the night. This thread might be attracting people keen to show off? Either that, or there’sa few people on here telling some porkies.

Imjustlikeyou2 · 18/11/2024 19:07

Why are everyone’s heart rates so low on this thread when the average is 60-90 doesn’t make sense 🤔

YellowAsteroid · 18/11/2024 19:10

My resting HR is around 58 - sometimes up to 63. I'm very fit.

Bellaboot · 18/11/2024 19:12
  1. I train for a living. It's normal for me.
TwentyBillion · 18/11/2024 19:12

Mine is 51-55

I'm 60 and exercise every day!

I was well proud of my resting heart rate, until I read this thread, and it seems about average.

Or is this similar to the mumnset chicken, which can feed a family of 4 for 2 weeks?

Sia8899 · 18/11/2024 19:13

Would consider myself fairly fit. My average resting is 54 (which is taken while asleep as a PP said) but my awake resting rate (e.g. sitting working) is usually about 75

gamerchick · 18/11/2024 19:13

Well I don't know about you but I'm big on exercise. Hearts a muscle.

welshweasel · 18/11/2024 19:13
  1. I run 3 times a week.
SisterAgatha · 18/11/2024 19:14

Mine is 55, when I was running it was around 48, especially at night. I was worried too but this thread is actually reassuring!

AuntieMarys · 18/11/2024 19:15

I'm 66 too.

Rowgtfc72 · 18/11/2024 19:17

Sat watching tv it's about 48. I'm 52, 16st and bike 9 miles a day and walk 3 miles a day. Nurse says as its my normal it's fine.

bloodredfeaturewall · 18/11/2024 19:17

mine's low as well.
plus low blood pressure.
I'm reasonably fit but by no means an athlete.

pulse measured on the wrist can be a little lower that 'properly' measured with a chest strap. especially when the hands are cold.

Havalona · 18/11/2024 19:19

Medicated Afib here, age 67. Walk a lot and have lots of energy for my age (I think!)

Just had a look at my watch and overnight it's around 34 and during the day it's regularly 49-50. If I am walking or running (waddling ha ha) for the bus it goes up, and can spike to 140 if having an Afib episode.

Cardiac consultant was happy enough, as he said, as long as your rate goes up on exertion/exercise all is well. So I don't think about it at all now unless I'm in Afib, and that's another story!

Mummyneedsacoffee · 18/11/2024 19:22

im a cyclist and walk alot

erihskreb · 18/11/2024 19:24

Mine’s 56 according to my Fitbit and I’m not an athlete by any means. I don’t think they’re massively accurate tbh - 56 is my awake resting heart rate and it says I usually have a higher heart rate than that when I’m sleeping 🤷‍♀️

BeachHutsAndDeckchairs · 18/11/2024 19:25

59 today. Usually hovers between 58 and 62. I'm 44 and do very little exercise.
