Heard the one about Racist Dogs in Wales

Been trying to copy links from the Telegraph and various other news outlets but failing miserably with my phone so any help much appreciated.

Anyway, it seems the Welsh Labour government are trying to create dog free zones to make Wales less racist or something along those lines.
The more I read it, the less sense it makes. Not that it made any sense to begin with.
Any Welsh mumsnetters with racist dogs?
Could you send your dog on a course to be less racist like we have to in our places of work.

The only reason they're equating it with race is BC the one person that negatively mentioned dogs was black?
This feels like they're twisting a story out of nothing really. Dog free zones in some parks are a reasonable idea. In other countries dogs are often walked in specific areas of the park. Nobody at any point actually said that people of other races apart from white dislike dogs en masse?

VimesandhisCardboardBoots · 15/11/2024 11:10

To be fair to the Welsh government, it's not their idea, and they've said they're not doing it. They just commissioned a report that had a bloody stupid idea in it.

TroysMammy · 15/11/2024 11:56

I've read it that people of ethnic minorities want to walk around the Welsh countryside but don't want to encounter dogs so the Welsh government want everyone to be able to go where they please. Considering nearly everywhere welcomes dogs in for example cafes and shops I don't think they can ban them from certain places outdoors. It's been twisted so that it has racist connotations but knowing the Welsh government they could dream anything up which affects everyone.

They said Inclusive. Inclusive /= Racism.

Everyone seems to be missing this in their keenness to have a go at the Welsh government.

perhaps we should walk pigs in those areas

KnittedCardi · 15/11/2024 15:38

Not quite what the thread is about, but:

In the main it talks about how there is poor public transport from town's and cities to non-urban areas

Well yes. Rural areas have their public transport cut, so they can't access towns.......But no-one really cared about that.

I thought this was a parody!

exactly, and she didn't make any link between feeling uncomfortable about dogs and her race. It could have just as easily been a white man who made the exact same comment, how would they have spun it then?

BobbyBiscuits · 15/11/2024 21:08

@another1bitestheduck quite. It's just crappy/'imaginative' journalism over some boring council ruling over dog walking. There's nothing to do with race involved at all. And to assume people of different races don't like dogs in itself could be discriminatory? It seems like they're trying to stir racist hatred over dogs? Jayzus wept. 🙃

Dog-free zones sound like a great idea.

Especially for those people of any race/religion/nationality/hight/weight/hair colour/taste in music, etc. who dislike being around dogs. For whatever reason.

Yes it's a good idea but the racist angle is wild!

Although my mum's adopted cat is sexist, it doesn't like men.

FFS - stop falling for race baiting DM headlines 🙄

The article is about a couple of reports that has been produced by two different Welsh BAME group about the barriers that ethnic minorities face in accessing the outdoors - in the main it talks about how there is poor public transport from town's and cities to non-urban areas, how green spaces in urban areas are not respected (dog fouling / rubbish etc) and that this is more pronounced in areas where there are more minorities. One of the suggested solutions to this is having some dog free spaces within urban green areas - I guess like most parks where there is children's play equipment.

The reports included feedback from people from different ethnic backgrounds who felt uncomfortable in rural areas due to a lack of understanding of their culture and religion as well.

The DM and Welsh Tories have hooked onto one quote from one black woman who said that dogs made her uncomfortable which was on of her personal barriers to accessing green spaces and used it to try and make the Welsh government sound like they are saying dogs are racist🙄

Yup. It's just race baiting froth. I must admit I saw the title of this thread and was thinking of a King Of The Hill episode from many yonks ago.
