Sacking off Christmas

Cameroptera · 12/11/2024 22:03

I don't think IABU to consider this, but maybe.
For the last few years I have joined in Christmas with extended family, I have no close family of my own. I have one adult son who I don't see at Christmas as he lives abroad, he usually visits after Christmas as the flights are cheaper.
This year I am just not arsed with the driving, the socialising and the whole shebang.
I'm considering doing Christmas on my own, and I'm planning my day already.
Get up late maybe after a cup of tea in bed with the cat.
Have a lovely indulgent brunch - fantastic coffee, eggs florentine or scrambled eggs and smoked salmon. Go for a peaceful walk in the woods with my wellies on with next doors dog borrowed for the purpose.
Back early afternoon as the daylight is waning, light the wood stove. Have a candle lit bath and change into new pyjamas.
Then downstairs to a cosy evening of buffet/ tapas nibbles, a few baileys or g&t and a select film or two and a spot of knitting if I feel like it. Add in a call with my son and a couple of family, a gift or two and that will be my day done.
I work really hard in a demanding job and I just fancy a cosy chill at Christmas to be honest, but maybe I'm being weird and antisocial?

Sounds perfect! Enjoy

Error404pagenotfound · 12/11/2024 22:04

That sounds like absolute bliss.

Please do it, you’ll thank yourself afterwards.

Doggymummar · 12/11/2024 22:04

I do that every year, do it.

Rainbowdottie · 12/11/2024 22:04

No not unreasonable imo, it's your christmas, you enjoy it! 🎄

ijustwanttodu · 12/11/2024 22:05

Do whatever the hell makes you happy.

Mog65 · 12/11/2024 22:05

Sounds fab
Enjoy

menopausalmare · 12/11/2024 22:08

Sounds great but you need a 1000 piece jigsaw in your plans.

WildGuide · 12/11/2024 22:10

Sounds absolutely lovely. Definitely go for it and don’t worry about being antisocial just for wanting a quiet year off.

TheChosenTwo · 12/11/2024 22:10

Sounds absolutely marvellous! Mind if I pop
round at about 7pm? My house will be full
and loud and I tend to go and have 20 minutes upstairs to myself 😂 I won’t make any noise and you won’t have to entertain me at all!!

DappledThings · 12/11/2024 22:12

Sounds absolutely lovely. Definitely do it.

Silvertulips · 12/11/2024 22:13

Get some of those fire color changing flames - really adds something extra!

EveryOtherNameTaken · 12/11/2024 22:14

Did it for 6 years when I was single. Loved it. Crack on and enjoy 🎄

And a bath with bubbles (soap and/or in a glass).

My cat is a terror if I have a jigsaw out, guaranteed to walk across it and knock pieces off the table

Oh god I know that one of sloping off for 20 minutes, that's how I've always coped with Christmas bedlam

I just realised I posted your exact comment as I skimmed through the thread. I wasn’t copying I promise 😂 Sorry for being your brain twin.

TheDogsMother · 12/11/2024 22:19

I've done this in previous years and it's been absolutely lovely.

CheeseyOnionPie · 12/11/2024 22:21

Sounds ideal. We should normalise doing Christmas however you want to. It doesn’t need to be the same every year and it doesn’t have to be all about family if you just want a chilled one. Good for you OP!

RaininSummer · 12/11/2024 22:24

Sounds lovely and don't let some people's misplaced sympathy for your lovely Christmas on your own get under your skin as there are always some when they ask what you are doing. There will be an equal amount who are envious.

I've just googled these as I'd not heard of them before, they look amazing! Am going to buy some for me and for a couple of Christmas gifts, thanks for mentioning it

I am a huge Christmas fan but I must admit your plans sound lovely

Ellbee83 · 12/11/2024 22:36

Do it, do it, dooooo ittttttt!

Honestly, this has been my Christmas for the last... 5 years, now I think about it 👀
And I really wouldn't have it any other way, unless something/someone really special turned up.

I see posts on here, people stressing about cooking, in-laws, where to go, what to do, how not to offend the MIL, etc, etc... Blows my mind!

Stock up on the food and drinks you love, get yourself a few little treats for under the tree, circle what you wanna watch in the Radio Times (ageing myself here? 😉) and have the bestest day/few days!
If you hate it? There's always next year!

SpaciousHodgePodge · 12/11/2024 22:41

I did this one year. With the exception of seeing DC excited, it was BY FAR the best. Christmas. Ever.

A few people tried to get me to join them. They couldn’t bear the thought of me on my own but I politely declined. It was bliss. So peaceful and restorative.

Go for it and come back and tell us how it was so I can live it vicariously!
