Sacking off Christmas

Cameroptera · 12/11/2024 22:03

I don't think IABU to consider this, but maybe.
For the last few years I have joined in Christmas with extended family, I have no close family of my own. I have one adult son who I don't see at Christmas as he lives abroad, he usually visits after Christmas as the flights are cheaper.
This year I am just not arsed with the driving, the socialising and the whole shebang.
I'm considering doing Christmas on my own, and I'm planning my day already.
Get up late maybe after a cup of tea in bed with the cat.
Have a lovely indulgent brunch - fantastic coffee, eggs florentine or scrambled eggs and smoked salmon. Go for a peaceful walk in the woods with my wellies on with next doors dog borrowed for the purpose.
Back early afternoon as the daylight is waning, light the wood stove. Have a candle lit bath and change into new pyjamas.
Then downstairs to a cosy evening of buffet/ tapas nibbles, a few baileys or g&t and a select film or two and a spot of knitting if I feel like it. Add in a call with my son and a couple of family, a gift or two and that will be my day done.
I work really hard in a demanding job and I just fancy a cosy chill at Christmas to be honest, but maybe I'm being weird and antisocial?

That sounds so bloody blissful, OP.

Viewfrommyhouse · 13/11/2024 14:18

Yanbu, that sounds fucking glorious.

NDerbys32 · 13/11/2024 14:23

The only way to make that even more perfect is the inclusion of M and S chocolate covered custard creams.
You do you and enjoy it!

Cameroptera · 13/11/2024 15:25

Chocolate covered custard creams, you say? I could be persuaded

@Cameroptera I bought some after seeing them recommended on another thread. They are, indeed, amazing. Definitely add them to your day.

Sycamoretree4 · 13/11/2024 15:37

I love Christmas abroad. Can you visit your DS?

NotbloodyGivingupYet · 13/11/2024 15:46

Damn it OP that sounds good. Maybe get two jigsaws and use one as a decoy!

exiledfromcornwall · 13/11/2024 15:52

That sounds absolutely wonderful. I am green with envy. If I were single that would be very much how I would spend the day. Most of all I would not watch any scheduled TV, I would only watch Netflix. Can't bear Christmas TV (unlike my DH unfortunately).

Unfortunately, as yet, M and S only sell the king of biscuits in what is apparently a single serving pack.
As far as our house is concerned 🤣

I am on my own this year and am already planning my day.
OH is away with family for a few days so I am staying at home with Ddogs but will no doubt have multiple phone calls throughout the day.

Christmas eve supper of melted brie or camembert.
TV & fire.
Christmas morning, get up when the Ddogs decide it is time to get up.
Special Christmas breakfast.
Let Ddogs attack some of their presents (unwrapping is their speciality).
Out for a nice walk (usually meet lots of other dog walkers in the woods).
Lunch courtesy of M&S pre-prepared dishes.
Lounge in front of fire watching TV (will bring out my DVD's of Christmas specials if there is nothing good on).
Evening walk with Ddogs.
Lounge in front of fire & TV again.
Bed.
Boxing day, up when Ddogs wake up.
Breakfast made up of lunch leftovers (bubble & squeak).
Loonnnggg walk with Ddogs.
All of us doze on the sofa under fleeces.

Sorted.👍

Sounds good as your choice. Also as a choice, not as a result of bereavement when you would miss those you spent last Christmas with.

Mh67 · 17/11/2024 21:30

Sounds like bliss can I come to your house😂😂

HobbyHorse30 · 17/11/2024 21:55

Your Christmas Day sounds delightful! My younger two DCs are at their dad’s for Christmas and the eldest, who lives with us full time, will join them for most of the day. My DH and I are planning a day similar to yours and much as I love my DH, I can see the huge appeal of a Christmas alone. Enjoy it!

Rasputin123 · 17/11/2024 21:58

That sounds bliss except for the cat (not a cat lover), would replace tea with coffee and not keen on knitting either.

Go for it.

Pherian · 17/11/2024 23:32

That sounds absolutely amazing and I think you should do it. Treat yourself to some peace and enjoy .

DuckDuckG00se · 17/11/2024 23:55

That sounds perfect

Wendolino · 17/11/2024 23:58

It sounds lovely and the most important thing is it sounds like you really want to do it. I hope it doesn't rain for your walk in the woods!

ThinWomansBrain · 18/11/2024 01:04

Sounds great.
As long as borrowing the dog doesn't involve too much small talk with the neighbours.

Can't bear Baileys - get some champagne in, first glass with breakfast, a glass in the bath and finish off with the buffet.

Julimia · 18/11/2024 15:03

Christmas day is just another day. If that's what you want to do just do it.
