Those are ridiculously good, hands down the best I've ever seen from a 5 year old, and probably better than I could have done at any age.

Thanks so much - I asked for the post to be deleted as my name change didn't go through and the post was really identifying - anyone who knows my 5 year old will know his art style and pictures as it's all he does at school, on the train, in the park, at sports matches - doodling with an art pad and pen in hand.

I think those dismissing how to draw videos should really give it a try. It's a fun way for kids to draw pictures they are satisfied with at an early stage - and stops them from giving up on art too easily thinking they can't draw in the early days because their pictures don't look like what they were trying to draw in their head. The creative kids will move on from those videos but will have a solid base of techniques to draw from. The less creative kids might still engage with art and continue using how to draw videos and books - which is still a great skill and relaxing pastime.

We get asked a lot by other parents how he learnt to draw - and we tell them that he started off copying how to draw videos on youtube. He has since progressed to copying still images and objects such as his toys and drawing from his imagination, and now does a mixture of all of them but mainly draws freehand.

The answer was given at 22.57. Why don't people bother to at least read the OP's posts??

Hey, thanks 😄 he drew it but he doesn’t always freehand draw from imagination he’s just starting to do that. He will have got it from YouTube copying a still from somewhere. YouTube has lots of how to draw videos too so keeps him busy 😂

Well these videos are obviously helping with the quality of kids drawings.

it's impressive how well they're following the instructions/artist.

but you have to wonder what it's doing to their imaginations? I love the explanations of them!!

Mind you I was fixated on drawing houses at that age.

i loved drawing at home, but hated 'Art' at school. They were obsessed with us doing self portraits!

My sons pretty good at drawing and was doing similar to this at about age 4. It makes you feel so proud!! He still does a lot of copying pictures but now he’s six he is starting to freehand and use imagination! He loves it an will draw for hours! I however can’t draw a thing 😂
Harry Potter is his new drawing phase x

This is super impressive for a 6 year old! I can’t draw nearly as well as this. Well done him 👏 my 4 yo is also oddly artistically talented. I say oddly cos both his father and me are TERRIBLE - I mean seriously artistically challenged! (He’s currently drawing at about the same level as I can) I’ve always thought it was a talent that was clearly inherited. Is your DS father good at drawing?
