Thanks everyone! She has recently turned 5. Just curious really. She's very much into drawing at the moment and has been wanting to learn how to do shading etc. She does copy drawings from YouTube but she also likes to draw her own things too.

Well she's done a better job than I would, and I'm heading towards 40.

vegaspot · 12/11/2024 00:33

My granddaughter is 4 looks like one of her drawings/ colouring.

2Sensitive · 12/11/2024 00:35

It's really good!

Just curious!

5 to 6 year old. Me personally I won't add my age by I won't do a better job😄

Notaurewhy · 12/11/2024 01:07

Your 19 year old might not have had the draw with Rob YouTube education? It's a good family afternoon in rainy days (discovered in lockdown and doing since) to see line by line drawing. I loved it and learned a lot because without a creative bone in my body I managed to draw a respectable Poliwhirl, Pikachu and Charizard.

I would have guessed 6-10. My 7 year old can draw a lot better than that but my 11 year old is not much better. I have a very talented 19 year old doing an art degree, and she used to love drawing Pokémon, I just found this photo she did at 5. It is more immature than your daughter's, but she was definitely better than most of her peers at that age. However, I think my 7 year old is better at basic drawing than his older siblings at the same age because there are so many popular drawing tutorials on YouTube, and they seem to teach art more formally in primary now and have moved away from free expression.

Apologies I meant I quote this for your 19 year old daughter as was pic she did at 5 years old. It looks good.

Obsessedwithlamps · 12/11/2024 01:31

I was going to say 5. It’s cute.

Why are there so many threads like this? I feel like there is one every week. Is being good at drawing at a young a sign of genius or something? What are people trying to infer from their child's drawing skills?

You know exactly what it is. It's a parent having that little flush of proud happiness at their DC doing something unusually good and wanted to share it, and maybe hear other people say something nice about their DC's efforts.

I would have guessed about 6, OP. It's good! My littlest DD discovered her love of art at that age. A few short years later, we've had to convert a bit of the kitchen into an art studio 😁

AttendanceNightmares · 12/11/2024 01:52

My DS did these kind of pictures around 5/6 but of course they are all different. It's very good.

That's lovely. My DS was the same age when he started drawing pokemon and I was very impressed. It's great to see them enjoying something and gaining skills. Well done to your daughter!

What’s the answer?

AttendanceNightmares · 12/11/2024 01:59

5

beachcitygirl · 12/11/2024 02:49

4 or 5

Those are ridiculously good, hands down the best I've ever seen from a 5 year old, and probably better than I could have done at any age.

mathanxiety · 12/11/2024 03:53

Anywhere from 4 to 8.

mathanxiety · 12/11/2024 03:56

Definitely a child with access to those YouTube "how to draw a..." videos.

But she's clearly got interest and also persistence, and the "eye".

I'd be running out to buy her stacks of drawing paper and art supplies to her heart's content if she were mine.

did he draw it or trace it?

either way it's really good!

t

Hey, thanks 😄 he drew it but he doesn’t always freehand draw from imagination he’s just starting to do that. He will have got it from YouTube copying a still from somewhere. YouTube has lots of how to draw videos too so keeps him busy 😂

Sunplanner · 12/11/2024 08:19

4-5 years?

ANP2020 · 12/11/2024 08:22

Wow wow you can see he's already developing a distinctive art style too - incredible!

His drawing skills are good but the style is very very copied from you tube videos

I think things like arthub with simple step by step videos means lots of kids have learned how to draw & paint very easily recognisable pictures. My niece and her friends all seem to draw much better than kids did when i was her age.

However i do think there's a loss of creativity. Lots of their pictures have a very generic look of things copied off the Internet

Yep he deffo does copy stills from YouTube BUT It happily gives him something to get lost in for a few hours which is a win to me 😃

I agree the videos help loads! However they don’t work for everyone… let’s say I’ve tried and won’t be posting the results 😂
