What am I supposed to do about this medical procedure? Has anyone had this and what sort of help will I need? Stressed

I have a 2.5 year old who is massive for their age. I need to have a hysteroscopy with a spinal block and have been told I shouldn’t lift anything as heavy as a pint of milk for three days afterwards!! I don’t know what I am going to do as ds is so heavy to lift into the car to get to nursery or even to get out of his cot. Has anyone had this procedure? I had a c section and I absolutely could not have lifted ds for a few days after, is it that bad?

my ex is going to be there for the day while I have it done so he can take ds to bed etc that night but that night and the next day I will be alone. I want ds to be in nursery as obviously that is easier than him being at home but there’s nobody I can ask to drive him in. We are very remote. Would it be dangerous to drive the day after? Any advice welcome thank you!

You either ask for family or friend help of hire help or make it a game for him. You could have a sort of steps set up (could be boxes leading to a chair?) for him to climb into the cot, the. Something (another box) you place in the cot, for him to step onto then into cot, then remove box for sleep. Similar elaborate set up for climbing into the car seat etc. you could buy a kid friendly step ladder if you don't fancy boxes everywhere!

@seven201 thanks hadn’t thought of the steps idea. I have nobody to help unfortunately

Is this a new thing? I had one just before Christmas last year, I wasn't told anything about lifting and carrying.

dragonfliesandbees · 11/11/2024 20:21

Couldn’t he sleep in a bed and climb in and out of the car himself with a little help? Driving the day after will depend on whether you have any sedation.

Anonymouseposter · 11/11/2024 20:21

If you are having an incision across your abdomen you will not be able to drive for a couple of weeks.
I was back at work five weeks after a hysterectomy but was quite limited what I could do for the first two weeks.
I guess it would be similar to after a C section.
I'm trying to think of options to help you. Can you afford to pay someone to take him to nursery for you?
I could cook adequate food and do a bit of washing but turning over in bed or any twisting movement or lifting wasn't possible at first. If there's no incision it might be easier.

Menowhatdoyoucallit · 11/11/2024 20:23

Your ex needs to step up and take your child to his and parent there while you recover

OP said she is having a hysteroscopy. There won’t be an incision.

@CherieBabySpliffUp did you have a spinal block? Maybe that’s the difference. I’m not sure. How were you feeling the following day? Could you drive?

Call in a nanny. An agency will help

Anonymouseposter · 11/11/2024 20:24

Oh apologies. I read it as hysterectomy. You'll be fine after a hysteroscopy.

@dragonfliesandbees having a spinal block. He wouldn’t do as I asked with getting into the car.

I had a serious abdominal op when my DC was around d same age (and had DH at home) and we used it as an opportunity to move from cot to toddler bed as I wouldn't have been able to lift in and out of cot. Dc loved it and it worked with no issues- but DC didn't get out of bed at night so it worked in our situation! Would that be an option for you?
Also, your ex needs to step up and help on days after, not just that first day. Can he take your child for a few days to his or grandparents etc and do nursery runs etc - he is their parent too after all.

TwoBlueFish · 11/11/2024 20:26

Could you ex have your DS for a couple of days?

usermkal · 11/11/2024 20:27

Ex won’t take more than one day because of work.

OP posts:
Kindofcrunchy · 11/11/2024 20:27

At 2.5 he can probably go into a toddler/single bed. That'll be a lot less lifting for you.

usermkal · 11/11/2024 20:24

@dragonfliesandbees having a spinal block. He wouldn’t do as I asked with getting into the car.

Spinal only takes 2-4 hours to wear off.

Createausername1970 · 11/11/2024 20:27

Ideally, as someone else suggested, ex takes child for a few days, but if this is really not possible then can you put child's mattress on the floor and they sleep on the floor, no danger of them falling out of bed, and you have PJ days at home for a few days and child stays home?

usermkal · 11/11/2024 20:25

@Menowhatdoyoucallit i have asked. He won’t because of work.

But you’re having a medical procedure. He will need to take annual leave or parental leave. Don’t let him use that as an excuse.

ChannelyourinnerElsa · 11/11/2024 20:28

He’s 2.5.. does he have additional needs? If not presumably he can climb into the car himself? He absolutely could climb into his cot if you took the side off, or sleep in a bed?

Menowhatdoyoucallit · 11/11/2024 20:28

usermkal · 11/11/2024 20:25

@Menowhatdoyoucallit i have asked. He won’t because of work.

He needs to. He's a parent, his child is his responsibility.

2011, so a good long while ago, I had a hysteroscopy. I don't remember having anything for pain relief - just "this might be a bit uncomfortable." It was. I was sore for a few hours but that was it. Nothing about not lifting heavy things. Fine the next day.

But...it was investigative and nothing showed up. Might have been different if they expected to / did actually find any blockages?

I had a hysteroscopy 1 year ago, it never came with pain relief just told me to take paracetamol 1 hour before hand. I had came home 1 hour later to my 2 year old on my own never told anything about lifting anything heavy!

@Lancrelady80 thanks. I’m having a polyp removed. I feel so stressed and alone. It’s times like this I hate being single!
