He is an advocate for HRT, but knows that other conditions than hormonal can be responsible for low mood.

He is a doctor who is imagining what it's like to be a woman.

downwindofyou · 10/11/2024 20:30

No. He's a doctor with medical knowledge.

TulipCat · 10/11/2024 20:30

Some men are knowledgeable about menopause, though. They are usually medically qualified and have seen a wide range of menopausal patients. So I don't think being a man means he's incapable of understanding the issues.

No he isn't. He is a doctor who treats women with all kinds of conditions. Where do you get the idea he imagines himself a woman?

He "believes things" based on absolutely no evidence

He is medically qualified. I don't imagine you are. You sound very angry and very unreasonable.

He's a daily mail gp 🤣

You try talking therapy though x

He is a doctor though, isn't he? Surely you understand what that means.
I think there is something else going on here, your reaction to him is completely over the top. Have you had a bad experience with your own GP or something and you're taking it outon him? Unless you've had a bit too much to drink. That might explain the silly, childish reference in your OP.

Brananan · 10/11/2024 20:36

It's a doctor who says HRT is helpful during menopause but there may be other factors that would be helped by other interventions like therapy and antidepressants.

batt3nb3rg · 10/11/2024 20:41

I can't work out why you've come out of the gate swinging with really unnecessarily nasty language. Could you not have just made a thread saying you disagree with him based on personal experience and soliciting other people's thoughts? Saying that a doctor should shut their ignorant manchild face when they offer a medical opinion in a newspaper that differs from your own feelings is kind of crazy, and said doctor is unlikely to take what you're saying seriously if they happen across what you've said. And just factually, a doctor offering a medical opinion is kind of the opposite of ignorant.

downwindofyou · 10/11/2024 20:41

Did you even read the article OP. Everything he is saying I agree with. And I'm an HRT taking woman

Redcrayons · 10/11/2024 20:42

It’s behind ten paywall for me.
I tried all the GPs at my surgery and the only one who would let me try HRT was a man.

What next? We should disregard the opinions of oncologists if they haven't actually had cancer themselves?

Michelle12A · 10/11/2024 20:44

This is just misandrist

TarantinoIsAMisogynist · 10/11/2024 20:49

Doctors do not have to suffer from a condition in order to specialise in it and provide effective care to their patients.

Oncologists don't have to be cancer survivors. Cardiac surgeons don't have to have heart conditions. Neurologists don't have to suffer from brain injuries/conditions.

SeriouslyWhataMess · 10/11/2024 20:49

What is the difference between a male doctor, who won't experience menopause and a female doctor who hasn't experienced it yet. They each have as much experience of it as the other. Does this mean we should never see a medical professional who hasn't been through the affliction we're suffering with? I've had huge amounts of spinal surgery, I don't expect that any of my surgeons have, but they do a damn good job of keeping me upright and mobile.

steff13 · 10/11/2024 20:40

Sounds fair, and I'm currently taking HRT.

HRT has been great, but I also had two years of therapy after a traumatic experience and THAT has been truly life changing.

Don't subscribe to the DM so can't read the article!

downwindofyou · 12/11/2024 11:56

I think the OP expected a pile on from angry women but what strength was thoroughly reasonable replies telling her she is way off piste on this one.

KarmenPQZ · 12/11/2024 12:17

OptimismvsRealism · 10/11/2024 20:29

He is a doctor who is imagining what it's like to be a woman.

All doctors will treat conditions they’ve never experience first hand. You can’t actually think every oncologist needs to be a cancer survivor to be qualified.

AreYouShittingMe · 12/11/2024 12:47

Isn't he stating what the new NICE guidance around menopause is saying? Pesky evidence- based medicine.
