totally unreasonable IMHO

BreevandercampLGJ · 26/04/2008 19:33

His garden, his grass.

He probably has a list the length of his arm of jobs that need doing now that spring is here.

He probably only has the weekend like the rest of us.

lucykate · 26/04/2008 19:34

cutting grass wouldn't bother me, it's people who light their bbq's when my washing is still on the line that get on my nerves

zippitippitoes · 26/04/2008 19:34

lolol

that is funny

er are u kidding

cheshirekitty · 26/04/2008 19:35

YABU. What if he/she started a thread, Am I being unreasonable to think neighbour should stop his/her bbq when I am cutting the grass.

Grow up. His lawn, his time, his garden.

Iota · 26/04/2008 19:36

my neighbours should stop having BBQs because they fill my house up with acrid smoke

BreevandercampLGJ · 26/04/2008 19:37

It is not Kanga that is thinking this, she is just floating the idea on the back of a conversation with a friend.

So put your pitchforks away.

zippitippitoes · 26/04/2008 19:38

my neighbour had a bonfire last week he has a yard the sizer of a small bathroom it filled my house with smoke he was burning stuff from the house

Iota · 26/04/2008 19:38

pitchforks? or BBQ tongs?

cheshirekitty · 26/04/2008 19:39

spare ribs at dawn!!!

BreevandercampLGJ · 26/04/2008 19:39

Iota

Both.

Iota · 26/04/2008 19:39

my neighbours have been BBQing for years - always with the thichk smoke - you'd have thought that they'd have mastered the art by now

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 26/04/2008 19:41

YABU

Its forcast rain tomorrow and next week so this is maybe the only chance he has to do it for a while.

nell12 · 26/04/2008 19:41

My neighbour (aka the grumpy old git) has been in all day playing violent computer games at top volume, not a pleasant thing for ds to overhear when playing in the garden.
DH mowed the lawn at about 2pm

Grumpy git of a neighbour mowed his lawn at 6 15 this evening whilst we were sat in the garden eating supper (Curry, not BBQ )

IMHO YANBU, there are unwritten rules of common courtesy

FruitfulOfFruit · 26/04/2008 19:44

So if I'm wanting to light my bbq, and the neighbour has her washing out - should I nip next door and give her half-an-hours' warning so she can get the washing in? Even though it won't be dry? Or do I tell my kids/guests that we aren't having a BBQ after all? Just wondering ...

rey · 26/04/2008 19:45

IMO cutting your grass is not unreasonable no matter what next door are doing unless it's an unearthly hour eg 6am

I love BBQ food but don't like the smell from garden BBQs like someone said when you have washing out it's even worse.

zippitippitoes · 26/04/2008 19:45

so you come home from work and plan to mowe the lawn but you see neighb ours in their garden and think no i shall do that another day lol

and what if you have like 4 lots of neighbours

nickytwotimes · 26/04/2008 19:47

God, wish I had neighbours who bothered to cut their grass.
It is totally unreasonable for someone to be expected not to cut grass because someone's having a bbq. Now, there's a sentence I never thought I'd write!

RTKangaMummy · 26/04/2008 19:48

No, my friend of friend's DH was cutting the grass and then their neighbour had a BBQ with another couple

And we were discussing if the DH should have stopped cutting the grass while the neighbours had BBQ.

Or if it is annoying to have someone cutting the grass while having BBQ or whether having BBQ is annoying {smoke and smells etc}

OP posts:
Iota · 26/04/2008 19:51

surely cutting the grass doesn't take that long?, unless you have a huge garden, in which case the mower wouldn't be close up for long anyway.

nickytwotimes · 26/04/2008 19:52

Well. RT, your friend's DH sounds very considerate. Would they like to move next door to us?!

RTKangaMummy · 26/04/2008 19:53

Thanks for the replies

I think it took him about 1.5 hours so basically you guys would prefer a neighbour who cuts the grass than has BBQs

So noise from lawn cutting is better than smell and smoke from BBQ

And his garden so he can do as he likes {within reason}

OP posts:
Iota · 26/04/2008 19:58

1.5 hours

was he using nail scissors?

Remotew · 26/04/2008 20:02

So can you have a BBQ without much smoke? I didnt realise this.

Perhaps next time you can forewarn that you are having the barbie and are checking that they wont have washing on the line. He may then think to mow the lawn before hand. Saying this I'm in cloud cuckoo land tonight.
