Could you be with a man who would have voted Trump?

Trumpz · 06/11/2024 21:04

Just that really.

My husband doesn't love Trump exactly but said tonight he would have voted for him and he hopes Trump will "dismantle the deep state".

Could you be with a Trump voter? Interested in people's views.

Nope. I don't find ignorant men who would elect a convicted felon who mimics a sex act in public attractive. I can truly think of nothing less attractive than a man who could in anyway justify voting for Trump.

I keep seeing comments like this. What do you mean? What's the 'conspiracy'? Are you saying you don't think there's a deep state?
Because you know that would be utter BS, right?

Honestly @Blossomtoes I don't believe you would. Easy to say, but you'd really tank your kids security, split up your home, compromise your finances and end an otherwise living and supportive marriage, over one thing?

Of course I would. He wouldn’t be the man I married if he did that. Our kids have left home and we’d both be fine financially if we split up. People appear to leave their husbands for kissing someone else, ffs. I wouldn’t personally but I would if he turned into a completely different person which he would if he voted Reform.

CryingAtTheDiscotheque · 07/11/2024 12:32

No - yuk - deal breaker for me.

ABirdsEyeView · 07/11/2024 12:34

See, I'd be more inclined to leave mine for kissing someone else - I guess it comes down to what we each view as personal betrayal.
I think it would be wiser to think about why your husband chose to vote as he did and see if you can come to an understanding, rather than throw the baby out with the bath water. That's assuming an otherwise good marriage. People do change during long relationships and voting is coloured by all sorts of life events that could change from election to election.

don't worry ABirdsEyeView

some of us are just not as principled as others, to be so principled you have to make sacrifices

DH and I have slightly different political leanings but broadly agree on all the points that matter. Different is fine, and I respect and am interested in the differences of opinion among friends etc. But with the Trump thing you are asking if I would want to be married to someone largely devoid of critical thinking skills and likely a bit dim - no, I really wouldn't.

Would I want to be married to someone largely devoid of critical thinking skills and likely a bit dim - no, I really wouldn't.

This is both wildly arrogant and utterly deluded. The sheer itony of accusing Republicans of not having 'critical thinking skills' when you support a party that thinks a woman can have a penis!
Just... No... Words...

Josie901 · 07/11/2024 12:42

No, I couldn't but interestingly two of my close friends are married to men who would have voted Trump if American and celebrated yesterday. We all have daughters - not that it makes it better if we all had sons! Finding the relationships a little difficult at the moment in the immediate aftermath, to be honest. I try to tell myself this is democracy and I wouldn't appreciate someone telling me how to vote but then I wouldn't vote for Trump.

I know it sounds immature but yesterday was an eye opener and what I call another "grown up moment" for me as the extent of his win made me realise just how many people don't give a shit about anyone but themselves. Very depressing. I thought it'd be very close and Harris would just get it by the skin of her teeth.

Mosalahiwoukd · 07/11/2024 12:44

No. I could put up with a Tory maybe, but not someone who looks at an abuser like Trump and admires him. And as for the ‘deep state’ bollocks- that points to a lack of intelligence.

Josie901 · 07/11/2024 12:45

I meant to add that I know there were reasons like policies on the economy that made former Dems vote for him but I just personally couldn't overlook issues such as abortion.

Lemonyfuckit · 07/11/2024 12:51

No. My husband hates Trump as much as I do, and I just think if he supported Trump it would mean that our outlook on life / the world is just too far apart.

Crikeyalmighty · 07/11/2024 12:54

I think looking at these boards in general some women just don't find it appealing being in a long term relationship/marriage with someone who doesn't align with them mentally on points of principle be it porn/politics/smoking/druguse - whatever

Whereas other women are happy to just go along with whatever views the other person has so long as it doesn't interfere with their standard of living and daily lives- and some women will indeed override any principles they might have if anything comes along to threaten their security or those of their children - be it affairs/prostitutes/drug use etc.

Neither is right or wrong, it's just have your attraction is hard wired.

I often think the more secure you are fiscally , the easier it is to have dealbreakers which are based on principles.

I totally agree.

Time40 · 07/11/2024 13:07

No, I absolutely could not.

MissAnthr0pe · 07/11/2024 13:21

No chance - yuk. I won't even have Trump supporting friends.

Um, for the record, my comment isn't supporting any party British or American, and I don't think women can have penises because of course they can't. Calm down.

As a general comment - no political party ever really aligns directly with any individual's views does it? I've voted for parties who have policies or views I disagree with. But often it is a case of "least worse", you have to let a couple of things go when you are looking at the bigger picture. How Trump with his endless list of flaws in policy and character can be the least worst in anyone's mind I don't know. I do agree that the state of American politics in particular is woeful, but that's no excuse to support an unstable rabble rousing misogynist, that does cross into unreasonable in my opinion.

No, I wouldn't actually divorce a hypothetical otherwise decent husband for this, but I wouldn't be married to that kind of mentality in the first place so I'd probably just be worried for dh's health if he became a vocal trump supporter.

QuintessentialDragon · 07/11/2024 13:39

It's important to me that our views would align in a partnership/marriage and that's precisely why I'd have zero problems with my partner voting Trump. I dislike him as a person, but I'd vote for him if I'd be in America. I'm right wing, so are my friends and family and many of them like Trump.

I would also have no problem dating a leftie, but not a rabid far-left one who thinks 71 MILLION people are all thick, dumb, racist monsters for voting different from them.

I'd never vote for Kamala. Not because she's a democrat, but because she speaks in world salads, cannot string a coherent sentence together without resorting to giggling every two seconds. She sounds like an absolute halfwit and I can easily believe she slept her way to the top. An attorney? Prosecutor? She's a 60 year old woman giggling like a five year old girl watching My Little Pony, it's embarrassing to watch.

She just appears...deficient in every way. And I really wouldn't trust her ability to hold her own and be a strong leader on a world stage. The likes of Putin would devour her for breakfast.

DP said Trump would win. And he has. We often enjoy having contentious debates about political issues.
He has a 1st in politics yet doesn't vote.😶

Probably because he knows that if voting actually mattered, they wouldn't let us do it.

1dayatatime · 07/11/2024 14:02

This is a good summary of why people voted for Trump :

Yeah, but then I have guilty crush of Matt Walsh.
