I genuinely don't understand why anyone would vote for Trump

If you're American and voted for him or would have voted for him if you lived there can you please explain why?

From everything I've seen on Twitter, this seems to be one of the most accurate analyses, like it or not. And it's happening all across Europe.

For a cohort who call the opposition uneducated and stupid, the Liberal left are very slow at understanding the realities of elections. The same is happening in Europe but they think the argument will be won by labelling everyone far right, closing all debate, cancelling people who are not with them, and driving ideological change without societal consensus. It's literally never worked in history and it won't again.

@HuckleberryBlackcurrant What about the rape victim who finds herself pregnant? Is she allowed to "kill a baby", or the underage victim of child abuse is she worthy? There are hundreds of reasons people get accidentally pregnant and a lot of them involve the woman not consenting to the act in the first place.

Women died in the 40's and 50's bleeding out from back alley abortions because there was no way they could bring a child into the world when they couldn't feed or home themselves, or had too many mouths to feed already.

Access to safe abortions saves lives, Parents forced to raise children they never wanted will lead to an up tick in child abuse too.

You have no rights over my body, or anyone's body. Women are more than incubators.

20% of Americans are functionally illiterate, 54% have a reading age below grade 6.

They think Trump, the man who managed to hike up the National debt after inheriting a booming economy (even before Covid) and whose current plans if implemented will undoubtedly raise the cost of goods & services, is going to leave them better off with tax cuts.

All they have to do is sacrifice some environmental protections, roll back some personal liberties and believe.

Sound familiar?

I know this is from the DM but it's an interesting read considering what's happened in the last 24 hours in the USA

Maybe because they are fed up of multi-millionaire celebrities telling them who to vote for.

So they just listen to the billionaires ruining our world instead.

I cannot believe any woman voted for him or a political party that sees women as second class citizens.

I think the democrats lost a lot of votes to third party representatives for their inaction on the Genocide in Gaza, which I understand on one hand but vote strategically people.

Years ago Bill Clinton's campaign manager, George Stephanopoulos, wrote in giant letters on the wall at the main campaign headquarters, "IT'S THE ECONOMY, STUPID!" Of course, Clinton won that election, and the next, because for all his human foibles, Clinton understood one key thing:
all elections, yes, every one, turns on pocketbook issues--can people afford groceries, gas, rent or mortgage, etc.?

In very simple terms, Harris' campaign forgot that. People voted for Clinton for a second term, even after he put a cigar up a barely legal intern's vagina in the Oval Office, because he never forgot what elections are about. The economy, stupid. Bush didn't forget, Obama didn't forget, Biden didn't forget, and Trump didn't forget. Harris did. And it's really that simple.

People will vote for the devil if they're hurting. And with the huge rise in the cost of living, a lot of working class Americans are hurting.

That’s another unifying factor for Trump. A lot of his supporters think the public education system is crap and support school choice!

It was James Carville who said that.

@saltinesandcoffeecups My fun fact of the day is that one state (Nebraska) has a unicameral state legislature. It’s the only state to only have one chamber (called the senate) and not a bicameral one mirroring the federal model.

I like fun facts and didn’t know that. Thanks!

My position is simple. Women shouldn't be legally able to abort their children unless their lives are in danger.

I understand that there are horrific and difficult situations that arise, but it doesn't justify taking innocent human life in my opinion.

DemocracyR · 07/11/2024 00:38

iamtheblcksheep · 06/11/2024 19:19

In summary:

People have voted for Trump because they are struggling with the cost of living and are more interested in feeding their families than a war thousands of miles away. Trump will end aid to Ukraine and he’ll want his equipment back. Immigration is a huge issue with many high profile horrific crimes being committed by illegal migrants.

Kamala was more interested in providing gender reassignment surgery for prisoners and letting migrants cross the border in a free for all.

Edited

Well this is bullshit. Good to see Trumps way of reporting news is distilling to his supporters.

Man alive, I never in my life felt thankful for BoJo, but at least he just had parties and gave his friends cushty deals during covid. Trump suggested that injecting bleach could cure it.

Regardless of political leaning, injected bleach over gender reassignment: one’s going to kill far more than the other. He’s a dangerous man.

Problem is the alternative is racism and inequality. So saying ‘it’s happened before, it’ll happen again’ is basically saying ‘bring on the Nazis’

Horrendous.

The economy was far and away the most important thing and people blamed the most recent administration for it (as was probably the case in 2020). Never mind that there was a pandemic and the expensive effects of climate change. People don't think in a very joined-up way when their wallets are hurting badly. I get it, sort of, but if they think they are likely to be better off under Trump et al, it's going to be a rude awakening. If I were a betting person I'd put a lot of money on the Dems for 2028.

‘If I were a betting person I'd put a lot of money on the Dems for 2028.’

Not if Trump gets a third term. Whilst that isn’t yet possible, as there’s a 2-term limit, I think he will try and make it happen. No doubt he’ll try and use his big election victory to his advantage and to claim he has a solid mandate to secure a third term. I am of course being a bit over-the-top in imagining that, but I think it’s likely.

That is a major - and inaccurate - stereotype. It’s unfortunately also mostly used by right wing politicians - such as Trump - to dismiss the concerns of people who don’t think like they do.

Also, there are many people who identify as left wing and who are well informed, open-minded and willing to listen to points of view from other political perspectives. I count myself among that group. I try really, really hard to stay open-minded. It’s really hard and I’m not brilliant at it, but I really try.

I'm pro choice. But if all lives are equal. How can it be OK to kill one life to save another? I never get that argument. What about women who will have back alley abortions and are it doesn't work, can they then get an abortion even if they have "murdered". Should they go to jail?

Well you need to accept that the majority of right-thinking people do not agree with you!

Women should absolutely have body autonomy!

Surely to god he would be too old? And who is going to agree to him having a 3rd term anyway? I actually wish now he'd beaten Biden in 2020 and we would be done with the evil bastard, not having another 4 years of his bullshit!!

How can anyone justify their voting for a man who had a quite close relationship with known paedophiles and spent a lot of time on their island, has been accused of raping children and women, who has affairs, mocked a disabled man, thinks women who have abortions should be punished even if they're rape victims.
I don't understand how anyone can push this into the backs of their minds and ignore it because trans people, the economy and immigration are much more important?

I don’t understand where the Epstein island accusations are coming from. Trump is not on the flight logs to the island, the Clintons are. Epstein was arrested during Trumps time as president.
I don’t have a pony in this race but I am confused with this type of misinformation.

The economy and immigration.

That is what made people vote for him. Many didn't like him but I'm paying more for food, electricity, gas to heat my home, and gas to run our car. All Biden said was everything is ok but it isn't.

In summary there are a lot of racist, misogynistic Americans who are happy to turn a blind eye to felony and support sexual abusers.

Some not very nice people really.

Are you also counting the Democrat populace in that who have turned a blind eye, covered up and protected/still protecting Bill Clinton at all costs? Or the long ass protection and cover up of staunch Democrat supporter Shaun "Diddy" Coombs?

The truth won't come out. As much as it would bury Trump, it would destroy the Democrats, especially the Clinton's too much. Therefore it's kept quiet.

Decencydiedtoday · 07/11/2024 01:37

Original sin. Most people are awful unless educated to actually care about others and brought up by decent people. Trump voters are neither. HtH

In my opinion I really think the famous 1992 quote applies here - “It's the economy, stupid”. Harris just didn’t talk enough (at all?) about how she was going to improve the day to day financial situation of a lot of Americans. Do I think 70 million people think Trump is a great guy? No! They were, however, prepared to vote for someone that they didn’t like, because they ultimately think he’ll be better for THEM.
