Would you let your 4yo choose whether to be vaccinated?

I'm talking about the flu vaccine not the infant vaccines.

Talking to a mum outside school this morning, our kids are both in reception and we were talking about them getting the flu vaccine at school in a couple of days. She then said her daughter won't be getting it because she asked her if she wanted it and her daughter said no. Is this a normal thing to do? I hadn't even thought to ask my daughter, surely they're far too young to understand the decision they're making? Would you put that choice on a child this young?

No. These people need to parent!

It's like the Tories asking the electorate about Brexit instead of governing in our best interests... and we know how well that went.

I think 4 is a too young to be making that decision.

That being said, our 7yr old was adamant that they didn't want the nasal spary, and wanted an injection instead. I think it stems from covid, and doesn't tolerate anything going up their nose. We did speak to them that we may not be able to arrange an injection, then explained the importance vaccination etc and they said that they would get the nasal spray if they really had to as they wanted to be vaccinated and didn't want to get the flu.

I had to speak to school arrange it as I was unable to arrange private through boots, superdrug etc. Immunisation team ok'd it.

No a four year old shouldn’t be making that decision, the responsible carer/parent in her life should because they are responsible for their child’s health.

Anti-vax people are the epitome of privilege gone wrong.

Vaccinate your children. Serious illness and disease aren’t worth it. Not to mention herd immunity; there are many parents who would love for their child to receive vaccinations but they can’t because of their medical needs.
