There is evidence of Russia creating divisive content and posts on SM to create division. No idea about this forum in particular but I can’t imagine it’s immune.

Definitely not immune.

It's a very individualistic society, so voters think of themselves first

Of course they do! Voting is your direct voice in the political process, you’d be foolish to think of other people (or believe that you are, when you have no idea) instead of your own family and particular circumstances.

Honestly his opinion on the matter is irrelevant since it’s a state matter now. All we need to know is that he won’t sign an abortion ban, said he wasn’t gonna do it and lost voters based on his statement. Do you really think someone like Trump actually cares about abortion that much?

Oh, well if Trump says he won't then no worries. After all, if there's one thing Trump is known for it's his honesty and keeping his promises.

We'll just ignore the fact that literally his first cabinet appointment was one of the project 2025 authors.

Not foolish. Recognising the fact that a more equal society has benefits, not all financial, so voting for that. Or being someone who is happy as part of a society which cares for its members. You are categorising anything other than voting for more money in your own pocket as being both against your own 8nterest and foolish. It’s neither.

I agree. I work with children. I see the abject poverty and the widening and obscene inequality and vote for change. Regardless of my personal circumstances.

I'm enjoying seeing all the left liberals melting . Hopefully this is a start to embolden other countries to get back to common sense and kick all this woke , gender identity cr@p into the long grass . The tide is turning .

Because hatred misogyny and bigotry is such a good look for the world and we so missed it.
Let's go backwards. Great idea.
More Trumpers showing their true colours. It wasn't the economy. That's a useful smokescreen for their true motive - they just want to get at minority groups they personally don't like. Which is why all their gloating has a threatening edge. Get on our side...or else.

It goes well beyond just individual circumstances though, RingoJuice

As I mentioned on another thread plenty of Americans are utterly sick of being expected to pay for everyone else's problems and then being snarled at for their pains, and rightly or wrongly that lends Trump a certain appeal

I've just been reading about the appointment of the very experienced Tom Homan ... good luck to anyone still hoping for liberal border policies now, but that's what the majority voted for so that's what they've got

My point is that you do not actually know what they need or what will fix their problems.

I hear a lot of American liberals complain about the poor and how ‘they vote against their own interests!’ But it’s a bit of a leap to think you know what would be in their best interests.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 13/11/2024 10:50

Further to my post about Tom Homan, the new "border czar", reportedly he was asked how illegal immigrants could be deported without splitting up the family

"The families can be deported together" he repiled

It'll appeal to many, but oh dear ...

Astrak · 13/11/2024 11:02

My 57yrs old son, ex British Army soldier, married to an American wife, told me that neither of them were feeling positive about the successful result for President-elect Donald Trump. Their family members in the USA, on both Democratic and Republican party sides were also feeling rather mixed.
Personally, I'm not thrilled by the result.

Otherwise they’d be in the foster system so it’s preferable they go with their parents.

Hopefully birthright citizenship will end, however, so it will no longer be an issue

Why is it such a big thing if a family is split up due to a parent committing an offence? If somebody commits a serious offence then the family already gets split up anyway.

If a man or woman commits an offence and is sentenced to prison then they go to prison and the family gets split up - they don't send the children to jail with the father or mother.

Likewise, if a man or woman goes to the USA illegally and later has children. The parent is punished for their crime but not the children.

If both parents are illegal immigrants then they can choose to take their children with them if they like. The children (as US citizens) will be able to return whenever they want to.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 13/11/2024 20:21

I happen to agree with you, @Another2Cats, and may have given the wrong impression in my previous post

The "Oh dear" wasn't so much an objection to the concept, more a reflection on the brouhaha it would cause among extreme liberals

RosaMoline · 14/11/2024 18:22

What do the Trump supporters on this thread think about his choice of Matt Gaetz as attorney general? A sex trafficker of underage girls, a man who has slept with underage girls himself, a person who has aligned himself with right wing holocaust deniers?
Defend that. If you can.
And so it begins. I believe that America is going to be put through hell in the next four years.

Too busy celebrating the appointment of an anti science head of health care. Ignorance and hatred have triumphed and they are A-OK with that.

Incredible isn't it? And that's leaving aside all the other issues abround who RFK Jn is

I can sort of see an argument for keeping someone like this "inside the tent pissing out rather than outside pissing in" as they say, but otherwise we can only be glad that - as with Trump himself - things really don't hinge on just one man

CaveMum · 15/11/2024 17:24

At the moment let’s take confort that these people (Gaetz, RFK. Gabbard, etc) are merely nominees. If they have to go through confirmation hearings they will not be approved. If a trumps demand for recess appointments is granted then that is a different matter, but Trump did not get his pick for Senate Majority Leader - Scott. As that was an anonymous vote the Republicans grew a back bone and voted for Thune who is, by comparison, more traditional and moderate.

Plus Trump wants a fellow rapist to head the DOJ. It's certainly a good time to be a rapist in America.
They are insane.

Not a close run thing at all.

He won by a substantial majority.

I don’t know yet, we have to see how they perform really.

There will be a lot of spin and misinformation and law fare so you can’t expect any direct reporting and will have to be careful what you listen to.
