What kind of blithering idiot do you have to be to vote for a psychopathic, racist, bigoted, misogynistic, egotistical, crooked, lying, bullying, dangerous megalomaniac?

The more evidence of his utter unsuitability you give them, the more they double down.

They don't support him in spite of his racism, bigotry, misogyny, cruelty etc, they support him because of all these things. He appeals to the worst parts of human nature and he makes them feel good about themselves.

Exactly you rarely see anyone who is kind, nice and sensible voted in as a leader anywhere.

The bad side is stronger and more manipulative, so bad people keep voting in bad, brash, nasty people as leaders.

I saw a man on twitter/x say that if his teenage daughter was raped and became pregnant then he would want her to have the baby because it is "what jesus would want". Sickening

So depressing.

SerenityNowSerenityNow · 06/11/2024 18:20

He obviously says what he thinks, what you see is what you get. Ideally people would stop insulting him 24/7 then he wouldn't respond in the same way.

I still don't think that's appropriate behaviour for someone in a senior position or position of power. I certainly couldn't (and shouldn't) behave like this and expect to be respected professionally.

Also, what about the comments that are not a response to an insult? Particularly ones that are inappropriate towards women?

Alphaalga · 06/11/2024 18:21

Unreasonable isn't the right adjective for those who keep looking further right for solutions to problems caused by the right.

Women can have a cesarean to deliver the baby.

Having a cesarean solves none of the problems in the post you’re replying to. What a completely ill informed comment to make, especially in such a flippant manner.

Their older children must feel scared each time they get sick or have an accident, that they will be sent to Canada and given MAID.

What's wrong with you?

My comment got deleted, so just to reiterate that he's a dangerous fuckwit and this thread seems disingenuous.

Don't care if this gets deleted again either. Shit stirring bullshit needs calling out.

I don’t think for a minute that everyone voting for Trump agrees with his ideals. Of course a large number do, but for a lot of them I think it’s a combination of two things:

  1. People being so disenfranchised that they simply want to vote for the “chaos candidate” - the person who sounds as angry with “the system” as they feel.
  2. People just not being engaged with politics. They have busy lives, they don’t have time to wade through details. It’s sad, but a fact, that most people don’t care about politics.

Dominic Sandbrook summed the second part up well this morning:

We have to stop demonising “the other side”. Do I like Trump, absolutely not. Do I think his supporters are all stupid/racist/sexist/etc, absolutely not. Until we can start to look at why so many people are so disengaged with politics and address, or at the very least listen, to each others concerns, we only set things up for the Trumps of the future.

Canadian here. What? You think Canadians are quaking in fear of MAID? I know people who are terrified at the thought of suffering through terminal cancer, but nobody who’s afraid of MAID.

I agree with this.

The Dems also shoot themselves in the foot with the constant celebrity endorsements. There's nothing more irritating than an incredibly wealthy, privileged celeb lecturing you on who to vote for when you're working all hours to pay bills and feed your family while crime is out of control and you get 2 weeks off a year to go on a holiday you probably can't afford. These issues don't affect celebrities in the same way. It was the same when Hilary lost. Trump tapped into the forgotten Americans. They want money in the pockets and not to be robbed going to their work. Issues like abortion take a back seat (unfortunately).

I was responding to the ridiculous poster who said that children of women who are denied an abortion will be scared that their mum will send them to Canada for MAID if they get sick or have an accident.

We don't have assisted dying in the UK, but I think we should.

Yes but the point is, in other countries, If people took part in any criminal activity, they wouldn't be allowed to run for president.

So why is it allowed in the US?

With a fair wind we can get "sensible", @Sandygoldenbeaches, but I suspect "kind and nice" get chewed up in the hideeous process of climbing the political ranks, which is a filthier game than most

And after all leaders aren't there to be liked, though it's nice when it happens ... they're there to get the job done

This is an interesting take from Hilton on his Cuban family and school friends.

Thank you for proving the link between the abilism in those who support abortion and them also wanting to mutilate/sterilise autistic children then go on to assistance/death/suicide of the sick/disabled/old.

Most won't admit it.

Who believes in full-term abortion? Later term abortions are normally due to fetal abnormalities that are incompatible with life. No-one is advocating for full-term abortions for non-medical reasons.

However, the more draconian the abortion laws are, the more likely it is that if a woman has to travel to another state or another country, the more advanced her pregnancy will be.

"No-one is advocating for full-term abortions for non-medical reasons."

Only, what you say isn't true, is it?

There are six US states (plus Washington) where women can get full-term abortions on request.

They are Oregon, Colorado, New Mexico, Alaska, New Jersey, Vermont and DC.

There have been recent campaigns to introduce a 24 week limit in both Oregon and Colorado but they were both rejected.

Presumably anyone who says "my body my choice".

If it's inside you then you have the right to kill it until such point that it is no longer inside you, correct?

I don't know about other countries but you can certainly become an MP in the UK with a criminal record. And once you're an MP then you can get yourself elected as Prime Minister.

The only thing is that you can't actually be an MP while you're in prison. If you're a serving MP (or standing to be an MP) and you are currently serving a sentence of more than 12 months then you can't remain an MP or get elected.

But as long as it's less than 12 months in prison then you can still carry on being an MP from your prison cell.

To the posters who said that he "was just joking about sexual assault"

I wouldn't like to be near a man who even joked about it.

Sandy I think you need to go and lie down. You've never not been near a man or woman who hasn't joked about things like that to one degree or another.

You've got at least 4 more years to indulge your fascism headcanon and handmaids tale fetishes, so try not to overdo it on the first day 👍

I can honestly say I've never joked about sexually assaulting anyone.

It's not something people I choose to socialise with would do. Some of us have standards and boundaries.

The fact you think it's acceptable is concerning.

Most won't admit it.

There will be a vote in the UK Parliament on assisted dying in late November. The bill will have very strict parameters and will be restricted to mentally competent terminally ill adults who have six months or less to live.

I have absolutely no idea why you are talking about wanting to mutilate/sterilise autistic children.

I have no idea whether you are based in the UK or the US. I'm in the UK and thankfully we have settled abortion rights here.
