Neighbour stealing parcel

Littlesandjoolz · 05/11/2024 19:08

So basically I ordered an IPad Air for my daughters birthday from Currys. It was meant to be delivered yesterday, but they left a card saying it was delivered to the nieghbour next door but one. I went round and asked about it and they denied all knowledge. I believed them as they have always been pretty good neighbours and taken in parcels for me previously.

I bumped into a different neighbour and mentioned how I was panicking that I'd missed the parcel and the courier was messing me around when the neighbour said they had seen the courier knock at mine and then take the parcel to the other neighbours and they did take it in! I then went on the tracking details on the website and theres a photo of it clearly being handed to the neighbour. I went back round and the neighbour slammed the door in my face.

I've called the police and they've noted it but basically said they aren't going to do anything and aren't even prepared to come and talk to the neighbohr. What can I do? Will curries send a replacement as I haven't had the iPad? or can they at least block the iPad that the neighbour has stolen? Its £600 and is a lot to lose.

Shows how useless the police are but I wouldn't let it rest there. Currys should be made to go round and retrieve the IPad.Id also complain to the police authorities. No wonder our Country is going to pot.

Balloonhearts · 09/11/2024 20:28

Did you pay by card? If so your provider can refund the payment if you haven't received the item. My bank have done this when I paid for a service I didn't get.

maddening · 09/11/2024 20:29

So frustrating for you OP! I can't believe the neighbour can be so bare faced!

AllstarFacilier · 09/11/2024 20:49

A friend of mine had similar and the police were much more helpful and went around. I’m not sure why they can’t do anything when you have a photo and a witness.

Then don't designate your neighbours to accept your parcels

At the end of the day you allowed this happen

Yes it's annoying but

It's annoying yes, but it's theft. Receiving something that is not for you is stealing surely?

Then don't order expensive items to be delivered when you're at work

And quite often you don't get a choice, or warning if the delivery until perhaps an hour before.

coldcallerbaiter · 09/11/2024 22:53

IMEI curry’s should have a record of it, plus it is on the box. It is so you don’t return a different device to them.

Nobody will bother but in theory curry’s need to report it as stolen to the police and forward the police report to also apple. The iPad can be disabled or tracked by apple.

On our local Facebook group, people post stuff like this all the time “my parcel wasn’t delivered to me and I’m not sure where it’s gone, it was delivered here adds photo

People will then say ‘ohh that looks like so and sos house’ or ‘its number ** house’. This might then pressure them to give it back if they have it.

I like this idea. Passive aggressively shamed without names. If someone says 'that looks like number 11 because of the red door and rose bush' you can say 'Oh I knocked and they said it wasn't them in the photo'.

FWIW some people (i.e. me are super helpful). My old neighbour posted a photo saying her parcel had been left in this place and did anyone in the neighborhood recognise it. I recognised the brickwork down my old side passage so told her and she got it back!

Ramblethroughthebrambles · 09/11/2024 23:44

Is there any possibility someone else in the neighbour's house (eg forgetful teenager?) took it in and the person you spoke to genuinely didn't know? Could you see who took the parcel on the photo? Is there any chance they slammed the door because they thought you were accusing them of something they hadn't done?

Dreamsandlove19 · 10/11/2024 01:56

I would definitely lodge a complaint about how its not your problem to hand a parcel to your neighbour not you.You ask for money back or tell them to send a new one

Have you managed to get it back?

LoopyLoo1991 · 10/11/2024 12:43

Perhaps get some non violent heavies in?
Similar thing happened to my friend who's an Army Wife. Male neighbour on the corner property of her Cul-de-sac took in two large packages of cameras and digital equipment for her online job etc. Total cost £3400+.
The neighbour turned out to be slimy and slippery fecker, wore fake glasses, a hairpiece and gave a different name when it was delivered and obviously had planned it as she'd had many packages delivered before.

He refused to hand it over, gaslit her, refusing to answer either door on his home. This is a fairly rural area and police will take weeks to visit a farm if it's tractors are stolen - which is rife there - and won't come out at all if £1000s of agricultural red diesel is taken from storage tanks etc, etc.

Fortunately her husband returned from his assignment at the other end of the country with his platoon. Neighbour found on the Sunday morning his car being loaded onto a trailer by nine Royal Engineers Corp soldiers, a polite warning his shed and sun lounge would be dismantled next and the various parts of his Audi would be distributed over many English cities and they'd cut off his cable and utilities after that.
They were also were armed with two electronic devices that stopped the guy making phone calls to the police. Check and mate, game and match.
The prick handed over the stuff and payed for the item he broke as well while rummaging through the packages. A relative of his now lives in this house and the guy is now back living in his hometown.

Don't mess with army wives, especially if husband and his friends are engineers with access to all sorts of kit and manpower to get jobs done. And to say British soldiers are creative and very sneaky bastards is a vast understatement 😆

I'll ask my friend to post here to give details, but her two month old DD may take priority at moment. Think she's still calling herself KayTT on here? Not sure as that was ages bac? We may even get photos of the Audi on that trailer hee-hee!.

Ilovecakey · 10/11/2024 13:15

Do they have a car? If so I'd go out at night at slit their tyres and scratch it up. Might not get your parcel back but will cost them the amount they've stole from you.

Edited

I would so be tempted to behave in this way too! Even though its awful. Eye for an eye and all that.

anniegun · 10/11/2024 14:20

Push the police harder , this is not something they should ignore

SerendipityJane · 10/11/2024 14:56

If the iPad is reported stolen then trying to activate it with Apple iTunes should brick it.

That would be up to Currys, but it makes stealing an iPad less attractive.

MattandNat69 · 10/11/2024 17:59

I used to deliver for Amazon and high value items had what they call an OTP (one time password) Without this we physically could not close off the delivery. I'm surprised DPD don't have a similar policy. Also, different to Amazon, DPD drivers get paid per parcel, so they will do whatever it takes to get a parcel "deliveres" But it's definitely a DOD issue. Make a complaint against DPD.

MagicFarawayTea · 10/11/2024 19:16

Are you part of a local Facebook community group? I would be naming and shaming with the proof you have. I can’t believe the police aren’t involved as you have presented them with an open and shut case!

ElizaJ74 · 10/11/2024 19:20

You need to inform the courier firm and currys. The police should come out and take a statement. A parcel was delivered and left on my step, neighbour saw someone take it. Police prosecuted and I got a full refund from the company I'd ordered from.
It's taken very seriously usually

Treesandsheepeverywhere · 10/11/2024 19:22

It happens, I had DPD deliver a day early.
Then still sent the tracking link the next day, when they'd already delivered.

Hope you get it back/a replacement.

Jack80 · 10/11/2024 19:45

I would go round with the photo evidence and say I've contacted the police and they say to try and sort it between yourselves, but if you can't to call them again and they said they will come round and have a word. If they shut the door on you, leave a note with the same information

This happened to me - a cupboard was left at a neighbour’s and I never got it. I challenged it with the delivery company, who were useless, but my credit card company reimbursed me. Maybe try that?

Just to say - you did nothing wrong. Ignore the rude comments here. Your neighbour has behaved appallingly.

This happened to me and Royal Mail misdelivered when I was in.

I offered to call at the house but they won't let me and I'm still waiting for them to retrieve it
