Neighbour stealing parcel

Littlesandjoolz · 05/11/2024 19:08

So basically I ordered an IPad Air for my daughters birthday from Currys. It was meant to be delivered yesterday, but they left a card saying it was delivered to the nieghbour next door but one. I went round and asked about it and they denied all knowledge. I believed them as they have always been pretty good neighbours and taken in parcels for me previously.

I bumped into a different neighbour and mentioned how I was panicking that I'd missed the parcel and the courier was messing me around when the neighbour said they had seen the courier knock at mine and then take the parcel to the other neighbours and they did take it in! I then went on the tracking details on the website and theres a photo of it clearly being handed to the neighbour. I went back round and the neighbour slammed the door in my face.

I've called the police and they've noted it but basically said they aren't going to do anything and aren't even prepared to come and talk to the neighbohr. What can I do? Will curries send a replacement as I haven't had the iPad? or can they at least block the iPad that the neighbour has stolen? Its £600 and is a lot to lose.

Did you give instructions to leave it with that / a neighbour?

ZippyLimeSnake · 05/11/2024 19:11

Explain to Curry’s what has happened & they should either send you a replacement or a refund. You definitely won’t be without the money. What scum bags your neighbours are. In future for delivery notes I’d put do not leave with any neighbours, so they’ll either need to redeliver or take it to a collection point.

Oldraver · 05/11/2024 19:13

I'd fucking shame them. Send a not to every neighbour saying they cant be trusted

BrightYellowStar · 05/11/2024 19:13

In your position I would contact Citizens Advice and get them to help me raise a claim with Small Claims Court. You will probably find that once your neightbour's get wind of this and the fact you have evidence and a witness, that your parcel is magically "found".

I had this situation before and it worked! Didn't have to go to court.

LittleRedRidingHoody · 05/11/2024 19:14

Is it possible they are sick of bringing in parcels for you and assuming it's a cheap one to hold on to and 'teach you a lesson'? (I don't agree with this but have seen it suggested on here!)

I'd drop round a note saying please check with all members of household as their details have been passed onto the police as there's been proof of delivery. They don't know the police aren't likely to do much and you may find it makes it's way back!

Spirallingdownwards · 05/11/2024 19:16

Raise it with Curry's. The onus is on them to ensure it is delivered to you. If you did not give instructions to leave with the neighbour they have no delivered it. Indeed you have proof of delivery elsewhere.

They should send you a new one. It is for then to pursue the neighbour direct or via police. If the police gave you a reference give that to Curry's too.

coldcallerbaiter · 05/11/2024 19:17

If you said that the neighbour is the safe place, you are not covered. If you didn’t then you can show the police report or a declaration you sign to say you did not receive it and should get your money back.

Push it with the police, it’s theft, you have a witness so open and shut case.

Thunderpants88 · 05/11/2024 19:17

I would show them the photos and say if they do not hand it over you will pass the evidence to the police.

lasagnelle · 05/11/2024 19:19

Have you designated your neighbour as an option for delivery with that courier. If not then contact curry's and explain the issue. They can then claim off the courier and send you a new one

DreamW3aver · 05/11/2024 19:31

Id also go with giving the neighbour the opportunity to "realise" that someone in the house had taken it in by saying you've reported to the police and sent them the clear proof of delivery

But as everyone else has said if you didn't specify it could be left with a neighbour Currys need to sort it out

harvestdesigns · 05/11/2024 19:45

Just a heads up Curry's are an absolute nightmare to deal with re missing parcels. The switch I ordered for my daughter's birthday was delivered to a neighbour who denied all knowledge of recieveing it (I didn't consent to this for the delivery!) but they said as I had previously requested a parcel for delivery to this neighbour with DPD I had consented for all future parcels to be delivered to that address and as such they wouldn't refund or replace!

Ridiculous. If you don't want to accept a parcel you don't accept it. I declined to accept parcels for some neighbours several times because they were horrible dickheads.

TossedSaladandSE · 05/11/2024 19:52

Then don't designate your neighbours to accept your parcels

At the end of the day you allowed this happen

Yes it's annoying but

GiantRoadPuzzle · 05/11/2024 19:52

Do you have a local FB page? I’d post on there with the photo and say it’s been delivered to a neighbour, can they confirm which one so you can collect? If that doesn’t work, I’d contact the neighbour again to say you know they have it, and it’s been registered with the police.

Also contact Currys in the meantime to get them to send out a new one and pay extra for next day delivery for when you know you’re in.

Did Op designate her neighbour to accept her parcel?

swiftieswoop · 05/11/2024 20:08

I would keep knocking on their door until I got it back. Every hour. And I'd stand in the street staring at them when I knew they were going out or coming home. And I'd print out the photo of them accepting it and post it through their door.

If they call the police and make them come round, good. Objective achieved.

Excuse me? I haven't designated anyone. When couriers don't give you upto date delivery info so you can't be in they then don't want to take it back to the depot and ask neighbours to take them. I haven't requested this. Its literally in their contract to take parcels back to the depot if you aren't in and haven't left in safe place information. And even if i did, they don't have to accept any parcels they don't want to. Doesn't give them the right to steal.

No I didn't.

This is Curry's responsibility. They need to send a replacement or refund.

Outtherelookingin · 05/11/2024 21:00

Littlesandjoolz · 05/11/2024 20:57

No I didn't.

That's fine then, all you do is contact the retailer and explain what has happened and they will replace it for you. Its between them and the courier but you will get a replacement. Perhaps get it delivered to work or your parents or someone who will be in this time.

TossedSaladandSE · 05/11/2024 21:00

I've told all the couriers not to leave parcels with neighbours

And I've told couriers to take me off certain CF neighbours designated list

Well OP if you haven't given this neighbour as a designated receiver of your parcels then it's the couriers fault and they'll have to recompense you as it was their decision

Stormyweatheroutthere · 05/11/2024 21:03

To avoid future risk leave a note on your door not to leave with x ndn as they are thieves.. Word will get round.

Littlesandjoolz · 05/11/2024 21:04

Thank you everyone. I'm livid. I tried calling before work, and they said they've put in for dpd to open an investigation so I have to wait for that 😒 im going to be so angry if they get away with this.

TossedSaladandSE · 05/11/2024 21:07

I make sure I buy from retailers that deliver to certain supermarkets or wherever so I can pick up when I'm free

Or it's delivered when someone's at home or a specific neighbour depending on item etc

Where I live which is very safe couriers no longer just randomly deliver to random neighbours if we haven't put their numbers down as a designated recipient.

They used to but not for ages now

It's worth double checking with the courier if they have details of neighbours to deliver to that you'd forgotten about or maybe previous occupants have used

Then don't order expensive items to be delivered when you're at work
