DS always wants to wear football kit/socks mainly

8 year old DS always wants to wear his football kit/s anywhere we go. After school he changes and we offer him his regular clothes, like a T shirt and jeans, but he always insists on wearing his football kit. When we push for regular clothes he insists on wearing his football socks beneath his clothing because they ‘fit his feet good’ I find this unusual. Does anybody have a similar problem? Genuinely it’s weird to me but I might be naive? I know this sounds like your regular ‘weirdo’ post, but this is genuinely a problem we’re facing. It’s not a big issue sure, but we wish he would just wear regular clothing. He’s on the pathway with CAHMS for a diagnosis but it would be nice to find somebody to relate to.

A footie kit is so comfortable.
My boy trains/plays 4x a week. He will happily keep his grubby kit on...despite me begging a shower and PJ'S. This includes shin pads that leave an imprint 😂
He does love fresh PJ'S when he EVENTUALLY gets in the bath and changed.

He’s the same, shin pads on sometimes when he’s at training. 😂 the imprint is all too known. But he’s obsessed with wearing his football socks. Wears them to bed sometimes. 🙄 it’s just a habit we’re struggling to break and wonder if we should when bother breaking. Sometimes when falls asleep in a full football kit after football. Its hard to wrap your head around 😂

LOL, we have season for our club, so sometimes an extra 2 nights to the 4 of football attire.
He has admitted to going to sleep in his kit at his dad's sometimes 🙄
It's alm OK as long as it has been washed in the past week.
Footie mums have to let standards dip 😒

But why the socks all the time? 😂

They are comfortable, I'm told.
The higher over the knee the better 😂

I suppose, and he always wears them that way. I just find his obsession with wearing his football kit/socks extremely unusual 😂 hope everyone relates

I know lots of lads who almost entirely live in a footie kit. Really not unusual. Let ot go.
I may have to try the socks as my job needs me to be on my feet all day 😁

Hard to let go, when he has clean clothes available 😂

Save money. Don't buy regular clothes 😂
I have learnt the hard (expensive) way.

Why does it matter?

coxesorangepippin · 05/11/2024 02:15

As long as he's not cold it's fine

Jamie25 · 05/11/2024 02:16

Why does it matter?

Just seems like an obsession more than a hobby lol

OK and?

Jamie25 · 05/11/2024 02:18

OK and?

Maybe it seems to make more sense to wear regular socks rather than football socks (which need to be washed constantly)

Surprise Shirts (online)
Any kit, any country, completely random.
We got Dynamo Kiev 😂 my lad loves it. At least it is in our teams home colours (not orange or claret, our nemesis team colours)

Yeah, but are the socks comfortable? (As my DS would ask 😂)

Absolutely they are 😆

That’s his main thing 😂 as long as they’re comfortable and go above the knee 🙄

Why does this bother you? My DS used to wear exclusively football kits from about the age of 4 to 8. He grew out of it. He just loves football!

autienotnaughty · 05/11/2024 04:00

Leave him be with it and buy more footie socks if it's an issue.

You say he's on pathway - asd? With regards to your question why? I would guess either he likes the feel of the material or the compression feeling.

TheSeagullsSquawk · 05/11/2024 04:02

My 14 yo DS has hardly ever worn jeans. Too restrictive. We've bought some over years but he didn't wear them. Football shorts are his favourite - Even in years he wasn't in a team and playing regularly.

He also wears in bed in preference to pjs.

Not so bothered by football socks but always sports socks not plain.

Has some sensory issues - he's a bit restrictive on food too - but no diagnosed ND.

I've never really thought of it as a problem.

LetsChaseTrees · 05/11/2024 04:04

Pretty common for football kit to be the clothing of choice!

I don’t get why you’re so worried about the socks. There is absolutely no harm in him wanting to wear them all the time, as long as they come off for showers!

HiccupHorrendousHaddock · 05/11/2024 04:07

Keep your powder dry for the battles that matter.

This isn’t one of them. Leave him be to wear what he likes.
