Streaky bacon

After enjoying the comments after my question about random onion on meals, keen to get peoples thoughts on how 'streaky' streaky bacon should be. I don't eat a lot of bacon but ordered this at a local farm in scotland which is known for grass fed, free range meats. It was in a sealed box with other items so didn't see it until we got home. A no from me but AIBU? When you're getting streaky bacon, what's the acceptable meat to fat ratio in your opinion?...

P.s. the white bits of paper on top are where I peeled the label off to check if there was actually any meat underneath.

Yanbu. This is literally fat only fit for making lard.
I’d email the farm as that’s very cheeky of them

Yup. My thoughts exactly. No reply from them yet...

For me that would be perfect. Get it rendered down properly it’ll be like crispy delicious crackling vibes. Mmmmm.

dammit88 · 02/11/2024 20:24

That's revolting. I would complain!

LovedFedAndNoonesDead · 02/11/2024 20:24

That’s awful and I would send a photo to the farm shop asking if they confused streaky bacon with guanciale!

shellyleppard · 02/11/2024 20:26

🤢🤢🤢🤢 I'd reject that straight away 🤢🤢🤢🤢

IcyLilacZebra · 02/11/2024 20:30

That's unacceptable definitely

Depends on person - I would love it, others won’t.

AgentProvocateur · 02/11/2024 20:32

I’d be happy with this - grilled to within an inch of its life, it will be perfect.

teatoast8 · 02/11/2024 20:32

Just get it nice and crispy

NeverDropYourMooncup · 02/11/2024 20:35

It'll be perfect for the sort of things streaky is generally used for - keeping poultry breast moist, wrapping and flavouring blander items, rendering the fat and using the crispy bits for flavouring and texture.

If you wanted something like the end bits of a standard slice of bacon, you should have asked for end bits and offcuts, not proper streaky.

Lucywilloe · 02/11/2024 21:04

Really appreciate the comments as I really was unsure if I was being unreasonable in my expectations. I'll probably try to use small bits for flavour in other dishes but I just a bit disappointed that it's so far from the picture posted on the website. Another example of where I just need to temper expectations with reality 😂

I used to have a farm and I wouldn't have given that to guests I didn't like lol 😆

Snowpaw · 03/11/2024 08:54

Yeah fair enough it does look a lot different than the picture on the website, but it will be delicious. Use it in the way you would pancetta perhaps. And just ensure its properly cooked and crispy, not floppy.

jaundicedoutlook · 03/11/2024 09:26

Do it in the oven on a little silicone trivet so all the fat renders down and away and it will be lovely.

Whilst the fat to meat ratio is a bit high, it isn’t totally unusual for bacon off a proper fat pig…

Merryoldgoat · 03/11/2024 09:29

I imagine this is what I’d look like if I were bacon.

purplebeansprouts · 03/11/2024 09:34

You can't really say anything or you'd be bodyshaming

BPR · 03/11/2024 09:39

Glad you have contacted them.
That is not streaky bacon.
Its fat for rendering.
I would be looking for a refund and I would tell them you will upload the picture next to what they advertise.
The advert IS streaky, what they sent most certainly is not.

If that’s the picture on the website (which looks delicious) then that is bang out of order. I’d be asking for a refund or a replacement.

Merryoldgoat · 03/11/2024 09:56

FFS I’m gonna need some bacon now.

Oblomov24 · 03/11/2024 12:23

I wouldn't be happy with that and would complain. What % fat is that, compared to the website photo?
