To find it hilarious Labour claim to be the progressive party when they’ve only ever elected white men for leader

We now have the fourth elected (by the party) female Conservative leader. She is also the first black female leader and second person of colour.

Whereas the Labour Party have never voted in a woman or person of colour to be leader in their history. (Acting leader doesn’t count.) And yet people think they’re the more progressive party. I genuinely find it funny.

She’s shockingly awful and they’ve massively shot themselves in their own foot voting her in so there is a small positive.

I guess we should ignore the fact we have a female labour chancellor.🙄

Labour now don't know what a woman is, but when they did know, they didn't care. Labour has never been woman-friendly, which makes Rachel Reeves' achievement in becoming Labour Chancelor of the Exchequer even more amazing.

Hilarious?
Again, humour is subjective I suppose. We shall see what Kemi Badenoch does as a leader, and judge her on that.

Some people are seemingly very easily amused.

The last two female leaders of the Conservative Party have put women in leadership roles back by decades. Let’s hope that they have chosen better with this one and don’t feel the need for a sacrifice any time soon.

All the women in leadership roles have done is harm women and children and show me that personality disordered people, not men were the problem all along.

VickyEadieofThigh · 02/11/2024 14:19

Michelle12A · 02/11/2024 13:20

It’s about the quality of the leader, not their gender or skin colour

But that means you're suggesting there has never been a female Labour MP capable of leading the party. I disagree - and I'm a former party member who wouldn't vote Tory with a gun to my head.

The Labour Party has long been dreadfully misogynist.

It should be about who is best for the job because they have the skills needed, sex nor ethnicity comes into it.

Funny how Labour have only ever found white men to be best at the job.

Simpletons are easily amused.

FilthMerchant · 02/11/2024 14:21

You're not wrong OP. Same as how Union leaders are usually fat white men as well.

Tories leading the way in ethnically diverse and female leaders.

Crikeyalmighty · 02/11/2024 14:22

@Michelle12A totally agree. Tory's bizzarely seem to elect based on 'look how progressive and liberal we are' but with regressive policies 'in the main '

Mind you they didn't have much to choose from as virtually anyone remotely liberal minded on policy has left of their own accord or was voted out.

M0ssGreen · 02/11/2024 14:23

SpudleyLass · 02/11/2024 14:11

100% agree on this about Kemi.

The problem is, neither does Labour particularly about autistic children, either. They refuse to define their plan for SEND reform.

At least they know what autism is and don’t berate children for being autistic and having mental health struggles. She’s utterly appalling and highlights how dreadful the party is.

At least she would not sterilise yoir autistic children with the ideology labour and the unions pushed.

No, they know what it is and ignore it anyway.

Not sure that is actually better, tbh.

Under Blair, Labour shut down at least 117 state special schools, even those outperforming mainstream schools.

Labour has some nerve to blame Tories entirely for the SEND crisis. We wouldn't be having to build so many new schools now if it weren't for the war mongerer.

Always desperate to win over hearts and minds.

They don’t, Kemi got it off her own back.

People will try to diminish that but it’s her success

Absolute rubbish, the Sen crisis is down to the last 14 years of Tory funding pure and simple. Her ableist, incorrect rant against autism and SEN reasonable adjustments was actually illegal and anybody spouting such shameful rubbish in the workplace would be held to account. Not the Tories though.

I’m a Labour voter (and former member) and I agree with OP.

  1. There is a long-standing tradition of misogyny on the left.
  2. Modern Labour men tend to see themselves as feminists and to consider that that’s basically the same as having a woman, isn’t it girls, eh?

It’s a huge blind spot for the left.

She talks sense and now she's in charge.

You're right, the Conservatives are the most progressive party. Remind me of all the great stuff they've done to help the marginalised in society again.

labour took away the winter fuel allowance, shafted small businesses and farmers.
And you call that caring?

foresthump · 02/11/2024 14:32

We have a female Chancellor for the first time ever

Politics is not representative yet sadly

FrippEnos · 02/11/2024 14:33

Both parties chose who they thought was best for the job.

May God help us all.

Not rubbish at all. There is a distinct lack of state special school places and us parents who have our children placed in private special schools get accused by the likes of the previous education secretary of demanding expensive special places.

She’s no success.

She’s just been elected as leader of her party.

You can disagree with her policies but there’s no doubt she won on her own steam

I take it you are wildly successful and can look down on her, maybe

ohdelay · 02/11/2024 14:34

I remember when Corbyn left and Labour were determined to have a female leader so stacked the card with four women vs Keir and still managed to come out with Keir. To be fair the women chosen were bobbins, Thornberry when asked why her on TV could only come up with "It's our turn". Ffs. Identity politics is stupid, just get the best person.

Name any policies in the last 14 years that helped marginalised people in the UK. Then we can have a discussion about caring.
