To find it hilarious Labour claim to be the progressive party when they’ve only ever elected white men for leader

We now have the fourth elected (by the party) female Conservative leader. She is also the first black female leader and second person of colour.

Whereas the Labour Party have never voted in a woman or person of colour to be leader in their history. (Acting leader doesn’t count.) And yet people think they’re the more progressive party. I genuinely find it funny.

Only in England.

So being black and/or female automatically makes you a decent person does it? I'd be the last person to extol the virtues of Keir Starmer, but Kemi is still a Tory, and I am more interested in what people think or do as politicians, not their sex or their skin colour. I'd happily vote for the Purple People Eater if they had the vision to eradicate poverty, improve public services, narrow the gap between the rich and the poor, support the vulnerable in society, etc., etc.

It's rather shallow to think that being "progressive" means voting for someone based on their skin colour or their sex. And extremely patronising towards black women. Not being a Tory, I wouldn't know, but I assume that Conservatives voted for her because of her political stance and ideas, and not as a "token".

What a bizarre post. No, your sex or race doesn’t “automatically make you a decent person.”

Discriminating against someone because of their sex or race though, which is the point being made here, automatically makes you a sexist or racist.

Ah be one of the private school gang- say no more.

Independent private school. All the state specialists were full and none other available thanks to Blair.

Fuck off. My child is as deserving to an education as your children.

Ah be one of the private school gang- say no more.

And all the mainstreams refused her.

What the fucking fuck do you think we were supposed to do when the council offered us the school place she does>

I swear, so many Labour voters are living in fucking cloud cuckoo land.

This is shocking.

My eldest tried to kill himself because he couldn't cope with mainstream.

How the fuck dare you tell others with different experience that their child would be fine in secondary schools because you're ideologically opposed to alternatives.

So much for the tolerant and kind left.

Your views are as bad as Kemi's who YOU have come on here to criticise.

Except the vast majority of Sen children have to make do with state education and don’t have rich parents to pay for private.

I have a few pounds in my bank account. Its her EHCP that funds her place. Without it, she wouldn't be receiving an education at all.

Happy with that, are you?

This is so offensive.

You have no idea. I had to give up my career to care for my broken autistic boy. He tried to kill himself when he was 10.

This has nothing to do with being rich.

Edited

Ditto mine however we don’t have ££££ to pay for private education something Kemi doesn’t give a shit about. She actually thinks Sen kids shouldn’t have help with funding to get to their state schools OR reasonable adjustments.

NoCarbsForMe · 02/11/2024 14:59

I certainly won't be voting for Kemi!

I'm also incredibly pleased about her historic achievement 💛

Two things can be true OP

I've no idea why you persist on slating Kemi when you're own beliefs are vile.

I'm not interested what you think. You're atttude is disgusting.

Lucky you, Kemi begrudges my disabled child her reasonable adjustments and help to get to her state school which she has to put up with.

You're right, the Conservatives are the most progressive party. Remind me of all the great stuff they've done to help the marginalised in society again.

This.

The thread title made me chuckle. There's irony and then some!

Exactly. A bunch of clueless, thin skinned and petty idealists who’ve never had proper jobs, set up businesses and do not have the courage or conviction to stand up and say what a woman is. A most basic question.

The Labour Party have a problem with women / diversity which sadly many of their supporters are blinded to. Easier to blame the Tories for everything innit, that’s all they know after so long in opposition.

Keeah had to bring skin colour into it when he congratulated Kemi lmfao. I bet he’s dreading the despatch box having someone as articulate and capable holding government to account for why they are reneging on manifesto promises and letting the public down.

Farmers, pensioners, workers, women, girls…prisoners oh wait they’re alright.

Agree. Plus Labour have lost the lead in record time so I don't think anyone can be adamant about what will happen

My daughter is epileptic, non verbal and incontinent.

But as you say, lucky me. Didn't stop the LA from insisting she join mainstream anyway.

I had to fight and elbow my way into specialist provision. No money exchanged hands, despite what you seem to think.

lifeturnsonadime · 02/11/2024 15:02

M0ssGreen · 02/11/2024 15:00

So is yours

Why ? because I recognise that -

ALL children deserve an education and that for some mainstream doesn't work.

I am not so anti private schools that I don't recognise that some families lives have been made harder by the 20% VAT rise.

I also recgonise that this rise doesn't affect the RICH - they can still afford it. It squeezes SEN families.

You're blinded by an ideology.

I don't think Kemi's views on education for austism are great but I think yours are EQUALLY awful.

SpudleyLass · 02/11/2024 15:02

Ignoring the fact my 6 year old (then 5) missed an entire years of schooling last year. Because all mainstreams were refusing to admit her, left right and centre.

Aren’t great. They’re vile. If your child was one of the majority of Sen kids with fuck all provision you’d think her views her views were a little more than not great.

Reugny · 02/11/2024 15:04

ZenNudist · 02/11/2024 14:47

Agree.

I'm pretty sure whoever the Tories elect now won't be the next prime minister. They need to work out their issues and find out what they stand for other than screwing people over, racism and anti-immigration, and making money for their rich mates. Then a leader needs to emerge with broader electoral appeal.

I would however have been good if they could have elected someone who made a good leader of the opposition. Kemi strikes me as someone who will snipe from the sidelines and just manages to sound wholly unreasonable about everything.

Just because you are non-white and female doesn't stop you from being an odious bigot in the Tory party it seems. Look at Priti Patel.

You forgot Cruella Braverman.

She's still around.

Well if Kemi if her way there will be zero provision m. Remind me again why that is progressive.

My first comment on this thread denounced her views on autism and disability.

Its that she is a black woman and indeed the first black person to achieve leadership of any of the major political groups that is progressive.

Indeed, my entire point on the SEN system as is, is that we have another female education secretary again and like the last one, she is refusing to outline any semblance of a plan for SEND reform. SEN parents are once again being asked to wait for reform, despite us not having time.

You can apologise for calling me rich any time now though.

Drinkdrinkduuurink · 02/11/2024 15:05

Was just commenting on this on the Kemi thread, four female Tory leaders.

Labour are looking more and more outdated.

Not into identity politics, but Chuka Umunna was a Labour party leader in waiting. That was a waste (speaking of waste they also appointed the wrong Millibrand brother).

Starmer is a wet lettuce who is in by default as the public wanted a change of parties in number 10. I cannot see him lasting beyond this term, so Kemi is in.
