To think in ten years all these huge veneers and huge lips will be seriously dated?

Eek, watching tv these days it's a sea of huge symmetrical bright white veneers.
So many of them look like they have got a teeth guard in when they are sucking on them.
Most of them just look really terrible and I dread to think what their long term teeth issues will be.
Add in the huge lips and filler faces and really it's a bit black mirror with all these faces looking the same. I know the lip filler can be dissolved but is that the same for all over the face? Will people be able to go back to how they were before once the filler blindness passes?
I've been watching old movies and the difference with natural teeth is quite something, it changes the natural shape of your face and everyone looks more individual .
Aibu or will it all look so dated in ten years and all these huge horsey veneers go out of fashion?
Or am I just getting old Grin

They already look dated and hideous.

This with bells on!

Smallsalt · 02/11/2024 01:10

I have veneers on my 2 front teeth to fill a gap. Had them probably 30 years, since back before they were a thing. It was easier than orthodontic treatment to move the teeth to fill the gap.
I don't think they look fake, just a bit on the big side..... Which they have to be to fill the gap. The colour looks natural as they were matched to my own teeth, which are always more yellow than you would expect!

If I could afford it I would love to veneer all the fronts so that they were a more equal size as my other teeth are quite narrow.
If my fronts ever fall out I will totally die! Or sell my children to finance new ones as I just cannot go back to the gap!

And the Kardashian lard arses too. I once worked with someone who had a very prominent derriere and I've often wondered if she is now feeling very up to date, because she hated it, would never where a tight skirt or trousers!

This is like me, finally feeling fashionable!

I’ve always had a naturally big, pert derrière and was called Jo-Lo arse as an insult at school.

I have always had naturally full lips and was teased at school and called ‘fat lip’ by this boy who relentlessly teased me.

Face dimples on cheeks… always told at school that it looked like I’d been shot in the face with a potato gun.

I have been teased about face freckles too and now I see people having them tattooed on.

I cannot for the life of me fathom why anyone would do those things to themselves but at least I no longer stand out, so there’s that!

QuintessentialDragon · 02/11/2024 01:12

I honestly don't care. People are free to do whatever the hell they want to their faces, bodies and teeth. I'm not a fan of these massive lips, so I don't have them. Some others like the look, so they do it. No skin off my nose.

As for the 'natural 80s', ha. There would have been just as many people trying to look younger, more flawless, like a Barbie, etc back then IF these sorts of procedures existed at their current form. What did they have back then? Massive hard breast implants and maybe some other stuff for the rich. But it wasn't as advanced as it was now. If botox, fillers, facelifts, veneers etc were as advanced and as cheap as it's now (well relatively), there would have been PLENTY of women and men who would have done it. Let's just not pretend that people were somehow intellectually superior, erudite and bigger 'personalities' than now. It's just that those things weren't accessible for the vast majority.

Ah, and Pamela Anderson looks truly shit, IMO. The Ultimate Plastic Barbie went the whole other way and styles herself as some sort of Mother Earth type. She looks like a washed out, faceless dishrag. There's a middle ground between the massive bolt-ons and the rest OR the bare-faced washed out blob look. Get some eyebrows woman, put a little bit of makeup on. Sure, she doesn't have to, but I'm definitely not going to pretend she looks 'amazing' just because she's 'natural'. She doesn't.

dayatatime18 · 02/11/2024 01:14

The teeth generally look they have been transported from a horses mouth. The lips generally look like they have been transported from a circus character. If you put them both together you are left with people who genuinely think they have improved themselves. It's sad.

Edingril · 02/11/2024 01:20

Mind you how much do people of our age spend on salons, sun beds, getting their nails done, wanting a girl so they can do 'girly' things together, buy make up kits, hair straightners, have spa days as presents?

Horse like teeth & clown like lips are more or less permanent if repeatedly spent on hard earned money. A day at a spa is a totally different concept.

I was delighted when enormous fat arses became fashionable, I was very much ahead of the curve on that one.

pepperonipizzaaaa · 01/11/2024 22:33

honestly i think you all sound old and miserable. let people live ffs. the girls with botox and fillers probably think your wrinkles and thin lips look crap too but hey ho, they’re probably not sad enough to make threads about it

Honestly I think you sound really young and clueless. Let people talk ffs. The women on Mumsnet are allowed to discuss the ridiculous looks of some young people.

Greencustard · 02/11/2024 01:56

pepperonipizzaaaa · 01/11/2024 23:20

exactly ^ embarrassing bragging that your child thinks it’s funny to laugh at someone’s appearances

Huh? But it's ok for you to say this? Oh the irony.

I don't know what #bekind is, but seeing pages and pages of mostly women, talk about "slug eyebrows" and "blow up sex doll lips" on ANYONE (but mostly other women, let's not pretend), is gross. That's my opinion!

Well why are you on Mumsnet if you can't cope with it? How dare you come on here and tell us what you deem 'inappropriate' to talk about. Your arrogance is astounding.

Newposter180 · 02/11/2024 02:03

NoisyDenimShaker · 01/11/2024 21:49

Thick black drawn-on eyebrows, thick rubber lips, caked-on makeup, flat centre-parted bleach-blonde hair with tonged waves, veneers, and maybe face filler...they all look EXACTLY the same. The whole look just screams "not very bright." 😂

I don’t personally have any of these things or like the way they look, but it’s pretty anti-feminist to assume anything about someone’s intelligence based on their hair.

BobbyBiscuits · 02/11/2024 02:11

@SatansBobbleheadedDashboardOrnament it's awful isn't it. A decent registered UK dentist would be struck off for doing some of those extreme turkey teeth treatment. Sometimes they do crowns, so take practically the whole healthy tooth off. For no fucking reason.
Dental treatment should be conservative. You do not want to lose tooth volume or teeth in general unless there is severe decay or very bad misalignment.
The owner of my wonderful dental practice is Turkish, so I certainly don't mean anything against that nationality as a whole when I mention 'turkey teeth'. But it's just crazy young people doing this to themselves!

Sooverwork · 02/11/2024 02:21

pawpatrollerr · 01/11/2024 21:12

They look like bad dentures, it's so bizarre, and all the reality shows pick people with that specific look. It's become a fashion look rather than someone that really needs it and is self conscious about their teeth.

This. I worked with a woman who had hers done OS ( cheaper), they looked awful . Like oversized dentures and you couldn’t help but just focus on them .

Haveacuppaandwaitforthistoblowover · 02/11/2024 02:23

Thankyou for this thread @ToriMJ you wrote what I have been saying!

I cannot believe young people are doing this to themselves! As you said the white mouth guard teeth that look too big for their mouths, the hair, the lips, the fake tan... UGH.

They don't look nice! What are they enhancing?? Makes me sad to think people want to look like this when I bet they look perfectly fine in their own way, naturally!

Sigh.

beachcitygirl · 02/11/2024 02:34

I'm one to talk, I'm
Sure we all are. Have you ever looked at yourself in the mirror or old photos, I'm
Filling my eyebrows in every day because I plucked them to nothing a la Pamela Anderson in the 80's & the poker straight hair & the Mac spice lip liner with paler lipstick.
Yuck.

It's the fashion. They'll grow out of it.

beachcitygirl · 02/11/2024 02:35

That said I hate the duck lip look

Moro93 · 02/11/2024 05:04

I find the difference startling when I watch films from the 90s or earlier and you see how different everyone looked, they didn’t all look the same.

I feel like everyone is trying to achieve some sort of ‘perfect look’ these days and it just looks fake and like they’re all clones. Features like not having perfectly white, perfectly straight teeth, having a few lines on the face etc is way preferable to everyone looking the same. It’s like there’s nothing distinguishing to look at and no character.

u3ername · 02/11/2024 05:44

Sadly, the wrinkle free, expressionless face is here to stay even if the thickness of the eyebrows and the size of the lips changes a bit. Can't see people going back as long as it's affordable.

Colourfulduvets · 02/11/2024 05:52

This is sort of related although not about lips particularly but I have just been working my way back through Friends, right from the first episode.

Courtney Cox in the final series looks so strange and it's obviously when she started messing with her face. Because I watched the series back to back it's so noticeable that she suddenly looks odd & different.
Her mouth is suddenly way too wide and her eyes look creepy.

Now she looks pretty awful but I bet if she had never done anything and had aged normally she would have looked beautiful as an older woman.

It seems there is a tipping point with these "interventions" and I do wonder how some younger peoplewill look as they age; it seems women are having cosmetic things done to their face at younger & younger ages these days.

Farmgoose · 02/11/2024 05:54

When some poor young woman is a victim of something and the media only have access to their instagram profile pic with a filter and all that make up and filler. Could be anyone!
Then they get hold of another photo and you can actually see who it is.

Lyannaa · 01/11/2024 22:12

Who cares? Let people do what they want 🤷🏻‍♀️

That's a very simplistic attitude when teenage girls are being brainwashed by the beauty industry into thinking they need to pay to inject things into their body in order to be beautiful.

Are people really 'doing what they want'?

And the other consideration is the cost to the NHS when all these procedures go wrong.

Gummybear23 · 02/11/2024 06:46

TunipTheVegimal24 · 02/11/2024 00:35

Or equally, a lifetime of worrying too much, poor nutrition and overexposure to the sun.

BS. If that is the case
why don't these people avoid sun not worry and eat better if it avoids wrinkles.
Instead of fillers and giant lips?

The teeth that I had done were ground down for veneers, but they certainly weren't left as stumps - the exception would be the two that were crowned, I think.

Check out the turkey teeth videos to see the work that is done. I'm not talking about the normal veneers done by reputable uk dentists.
