To think in ten years all these huge veneers and huge lips will be seriously dated?

Eek, watching tv these days it's a sea of huge symmetrical bright white veneers.
So many of them look like they have got a teeth guard in when they are sucking on them.
Most of them just look really terrible and I dread to think what their long term teeth issues will be.
Add in the huge lips and filler faces and really it's a bit black mirror with all these faces looking the same. I know the lip filler can be dissolved but is that the same for all over the face? Will people be able to go back to how they were before once the filler blindness passes?
I've been watching old movies and the difference with natural teeth is quite something, it changes the natural shape of your face and everyone looks more individual .
Aibu or will it all look so dated in ten years and all these huge horsey veneers go out of fashion?
Or am I just getting old Grin

I work with some girls in their 20s who would definitely look very beautiful but they look so odd because of all the unnecessary work they've had done. I feel like the industry preys on the insecurity or young women and they think it's what they have to do, but honestly they look worse, especially lip fillers.

I'm 10 years older and have friends who IMO look much better just because they've looked after themselves and have only minimal botox. Fillers look always fake from what I see and give me the ick.

I have seen some really nice veneers / crowns which look great.
The issue is that people choose the biggest and whitest veneers/ crowns which doesn’t fit their face because they are one size fits all.
My pet peeve is the drag like makeup which is horrendous. Thankfully , this seems to be going out of fashion.

rylan ?

I have a tenuous connection to the chap that did Rylan’s teeth.

ThePoshUns · 01/11/2024 23:35

They never looked nice to begin with.

I’ve seen a few media reports recently referencing the number of 30 somethings needing facelifts because of stretched skin post fillers. Sooner it goes out of fashion the better.

30 somethings? Don't you mean 20 somethings? I'm on my late 30s, and grew up with none of this; it didn't exist!

Veneers are not one size fits all. So people might choose the wrong size - but that’s a choice, not because one size fits all

Properly done veneers are individual to each persons mouth and teeth. They are custom.

Im on my second set since the mid 90s (don’t get me started on why I “needed” them as an early teen). My first set was crap, but my second set was full on name brand. This was in the time of all the Hollywood stars getting them. Unless people are lying liars, no one notices that mine are veneers.

I’m not a fan of the veneer/filler look. Same with fake boobs. I find some of it quite grotesque. But if it’s what people want to do, I wouldn’t judge them for it. As long as they’re happy.

I’m glad I was inspired by women who struggled off looking ‘conventionally desirable’ and were attractive because their personality, intelligence and creativity shone through.

Have you read Chrissie Hynde's interviews were she blames the 13 year old groupies for being sexually exploited by David Bowie/the stones and others? She absolutely victim blames children. Siouxsie and her wearing of a swastika and other nazi symbols. She later said that she didn't know much about the holocaust/Nazis, very intelligent. Are you really claiming that Debbie Harry didn't play the 'sex for sale' game?

I'm nearly 60, I'm just wondering how in your perfect world, you've got so bitter that you want the NHS to tell people to fuck off and that they end up saggy and baggy.
Unfortunately for you, they won't, so you'll have to find something else to get morally outraged about.
@Howdidtheydothatyour teenager laughs at adult women in the street and you think it's ok?

whatsthatwordagainfeet · 01/11/2024 23:48

I think they are already becoming dated. Molly-Mae who is pretty huge in the tiktok/Instagram influencer sphere was very open about having all her filler dissolved. She looks a million times better.

Sorry, I haven’t made my point clear. I’m not saying I agree with everything every woman in that pic has said or done. But it was an attitude they inspired in terms of being attractive on their own terms.

I didn’t say anything about the NHS. And I’m certainly not morally outraged.

I've wondered about this. Because surely the skin stretches? So if you don't keep topping it up, would you get saggy lips? Confused

Yes according to my (very knowledgeable about all things beauty related) hairdresser this is exactly what happens.

@Lampzade Were your natural teeth ground down down to have the veneers fitted? Can you ever go back to your natural teeth if you change your mind, or is it irreversible? That’s the part that scares me, tbh.

Such a lot of hate! Predominantly women tearing down other women, which is always uncomfortable and disappointing.

If you don't like a trend, there's no reason to freak out about it. It really doesn't affect you at all - some people on here seem to be almost gleefully hoping that people with veneers or filler age badly, look "dated" or sag. How horrible!

You're aware that men have these awful fake teeth too and that's been mentioned a lot on this thread?

What I find uncomfortable and disappointing are posts like yours, which try to shut down other women's opinions on this predominately female website.

#BeKind anyone?

No thanks.

We are pointing out that they look fake cheap and insecure.
Whereas Wrinkles are a life lived.
A life of being true to yourself and confident to live your life in the way you want.
Not worried about what others think and definitely not injected their faces with foreign material they could lead to serious side effects

Or equally, a lifetime of worrying too much, poor nutrition and overexposure to the sun.

I agree...and I think all of us who plucked our eyebrows in to submission 20 years ago now have regret, and a massive issue with not being able to grow eyebrows enough to keep up with current trends! Can't even imagine what will happen to people's looks/skin when this trend eventually ends!

I think it depends on where the surgery is done and the skill of the surgeon/dentist
My 2 friends have veneers, one spent a hell of a lot of money and had them done in the Uk, they look lovely, just like nice normal straight teeth
My other friend went to Türkiye, spent around £1800 and they look a mess, big white gum shields. Plus they botched them and now you can’t tell which teeth at the top are her 2 front teeth

Plastic surgery has become so accessible nowadays, people flying to Türkiye having surgeries that aren’t even approved in the uk for little more than the price of a good holiday. Scary times. I feel sorry for the teenagers today that are consuming all this.

I don't know what #bekind is, but seeing pages and pages of mostly women, talk about "slug eyebrows" and "blow up sex doll lips" on ANYONE (but mostly other women, let's not pretend), is gross. That's my opinion!

Tangerinenets · 02/11/2024 00:43

My husband’s ex had veneers done years ago like 30 years ago and they look absolutely awful now. The veneers are coming away and she can’t afford to get them redone. I had my boobs done 17 years ago. I have capsular contracture in the left one. It’s solid, like a rock. I can’t afford to get it sorted, only option is to get them removed which I will but I know it’s going to look terrible as the implants are quite but and the skin will no doubt be really stretched. Some of these procedures absolutely will not last so these people need to make sure they have the funds to get it redone if it all goes to pot. As for lip fillers, they can look ok if subtle but all the girls on TV shows just seem to go way over the top and they look ridiculous. Also if you keep getting lip fillers surely the skin will start to stretch and you’ll end up with wrinkly lips?

At least big dark eyebrows seem to be sinking into the Sea of Soooo Last Year Darling.

Some of us poor sods were born with them and I'm not paying a woman to inflict pain on me once a month so I do the odd tweezer. So some of the big dark eyebrows brigade will still be around😁

The rest of it is pretty horrible and I don't know why this particular generation of young women have taken to it with such alacrity!

If it’s any consolation I absolutely adore thick dark eyebrows. I’m so jealous whenever I see them as mine are sparse, odd and a completely different colour to my hair 😂

marmamumma · 02/11/2024 00:53

I'm sure they suit your face perfectly. Eyebrows tend to if people leave them alone.

justasking111 · 02/11/2024 00:58

Mine were thick and dark, they're not so thick now but still dark. My hair isn't though that's silver. I never went for the thin look after an older colleague at my Saturday job said just don't because they'll go sparse like mine. So I only tidied them up occasionally after that.

Incakewetrust · 02/11/2024 00:59

I hope it's a passing trend. The amount of damage people are doing to themselves long term by going to turkey to get their teeth done is shocking.

DH is a dentist and he has seen many horrors first hand.
