DH away all week, house a tip of course and the remote control has vanished.

(I’m not asking for suggestions on finding it - please don’t!)

But FFS. It’s the one chance I’ve got to get anything done and I just really needed my kids not on me for an hour or so.

What type of TV have you got? Our 3 year old is being a deliberate magpie at the minute and hiding things everywhere. The remote control got hidden a couple of weeks ago. We still can't find it but DH found a good solution; downloaded an app onto his phone that is for our type of TV which means you can use your phone as a remote. I've also just re-ordered a new universal remote control. Pain in the backside and no doubt will find the original once the new one arrives but the app has helped in the meantime!

Edited to see you've found it again, that's good!

OakTree16 · 29/10/2024 13:39

I’ve lost my remote too. I downloaded the fire stick remote on my phone and it works, if you have a firestick

Found it - thank god! Wedged down the side of the sofa.

Proper pleased for you, I have had minor panic attacks when I lose mine, always surfaces in the vicinity of the sofa, either under it or down the side

Anita93 · 29/10/2024 13:52

There is shops were yhey can easily replicate the remote with low cost. You could find one near to your town

eosmum · 29/10/2024 13:53

The tv remote app is amazing. I may have messed with the TV when it was on something i didn't want to watch until another party gave up and left the room.

WhimsicalGubbins76 · 29/10/2024 13:55

You’re not being unreasonable. But then I’m not the best person to ask. I once woke the whole house up screaming for the remote at 6.00am because I couldn’t find it, and that two hours before work is my precious “me time” where I curl up with a brew and watch my programmes with just my pets for company 🤣

Sandandsea123 · 29/10/2024 13:57

Download one on your phone!! The dog ate ours so I got one on my phone, works perfectly

AmberFawn · 29/10/2024 13:58

Feel your pain OP, thank goodness you found it. I have two remotes for just such an occasion, the second one I hide

Strawberrycream123 · 29/10/2024 13:58

You can get an app for your phone that works as a tv remote - I can’t remember what it’s called but you put in the tv brand and model number if you know it, turn your Bluetooth on on your phone and hey presto!

Futurethinking2026 · 29/10/2024 13:59

Get a fire stick then in future you can use your phone to control it or screen share from your phone!

CheekySwan · 29/10/2024 14:01

You can download universal or model specific remotes onto a smart phone for future reference

jolota · 29/10/2024 14:03

Depending on your tv you can download an app that works as a remote for your tv - worth looking into for next time!
Or an airtag or something taped to it!

BobbyBiscuits · 29/10/2024 14:07

You can buy a universal one from Amazon to be delivered tomorrow. We had to do that one time. Sometimes some of the features like subbies don't work, but it will do. And if you find the other then you've a spare you could hide from the kids etc.

WhatNoRaisins · 29/10/2024 14:10

I'm glad you found it.

JLou08 · 29/10/2024 14:15

No, you're not unreasonable. The smallest thing can tip be over the edge when I'm overwhelmed

DexysMidniteRunners · 29/10/2024 14:19

I would hide the remote from the children as a punishment 😂 An evening where they had to get up and change channels was dire for them.

JudgeJ · 29/10/2024 14:24

iknowitsridiculous · 29/10/2024 13:06

The kids would destroy the house looking for it. No, it’s gone. DH has probably taken it with him (not on purpose but he was the last person with it probably absent mindedly packed it.) thanks for solidarity!

He sounds like my late OH, he would wander around with the remote control, or other things, and put them down unable to find them again, drove me mad. The downstairs loo was a popular repository for the remote, his keys, his wallet, his Swiss army knife and so on. Since he died I have found stuff all over the place, in the house, the garage, the car even the garden.

GaslitlikeaVictorianparlour · 29/10/2024 14:40

I can't believe we're 2 pages in and no one has suggested a wee prayer to St. Anthony before now.

Fizzadora · 29/10/2024 14:45

She found it nearly 2 hours ago. House should be spotless by now🤣🤣🤣

thetemptationofchocolate · 29/10/2024 14:46

A long time ago I too lost the remote while DH was out. We had the tv in the living room, and I turned that upside down. No remote. Several hours later I found it in our bedroom, sitting on the earth in a houseplant pot. I must have put it there but don't remember doing it at all!
They are pesky things...

xboxforlife · 29/10/2024 14:54

my Xbox is my TV so I can control it on the Xbox app on my phone. If it's a smart TV it should have a phone app just Google the brand.

AInightingale · 29/10/2024 15:15

It's always wedged down the side of the sofa or under it in some complicated place. Wish someone would (a) make them in luminous colours and (b) have a button on the TV you can press to locate it by a bleep, like landline phones and their handsets. Surely couldn't be that hard.

Fuelledbylatte · 29/10/2024 15:18

Glad you found it.

Order a universal replacement and keep in safe place...

We also sellotaped ours to an A4 bit of neon pink card at one time when kids were young to stop them from bloody losing it!
