Not a single supermarket near me has any, Tescos said out for 3 weeks in every branch for 50 miles and no expected in date.

Really fancied some for lunch 🤨

Cods roe, oil and lemon juice basically. Used as a dip mainly.

You can order stuff from the fish/meat counter in my Morrisons.

They did in my local food hall on friday.

I’m told that it is due to a strike at Bakkavor, the company in Greece which is behind most of the imports of taramasalata to the UK.

I too have been frustrated by the absence of taramasalata in the shops for several weeks now (looked in every supermarket within 25mile radius). Finally asked a friend, who is the manager of a large supermarket, and he told me about the strike.

Smoked mackerel pate with an extra squeeze of lemon and a bit of plain yoghurt to thin it out - not the same thing obviously but it does scratch the fishy dip itch.

Thanks, that's interesting. I wonder if they make the taramasalata to different recipes for different supermarkets? I suppose that's likely, given that they probably all negotiate different prices.

There are so many small issues with supply of random things since Brexit.
I couldn't buy a block of butter in Tesco the other day, unless I wanted the organic one with fancy salt. Weird!

Noticed this as well. Local Morrisons and Sainsbury’s have not had this in for about two weeks. Maybe as someone wrote earlier “it’s a hummus takeover” 😄

I love taramasalata, and yes, it is getting hard to find. The waitrose smoked salmon version is amazing.

The UK manufacturers had a strike, which I think is now resolved! Hoorah.

I used to love taramasalata but the last couple of times it's made me feel really nauseous. I wonder if the recipe that the supermarket suppliers use has changed, or if I'm just Getting Old.

It’s a Taramasalata Tragedy!

I came on here this morning to ask this question as I love Tarama and haven't been able to get it for ages. A strike! But now resolved..... Christmas is saved!

The best taramasalata comes from the fishmonger in our local ocean-side city. It's made by a French chef who used to own the best restaurant in the same city. It is not comparable to the slop in tubs in the UK supermarkets.

oh that stuff we sold at my previous job. No one bloody bought it. Even on the UB date, reduced it to 1p and still wasn’t bought. We joked about it when someone found it on their delivery as worked out who would be reducing it.

Even if we gave customers a quid to take the stuff away. Still said no.

I have nightmares of this when I was 6, went to Corfu. At hotel buffet, I got some of as thought it was strawberry mousse. Took a big spoon. The horror! DF was pissing himself
