Just that.

Not a single supermarket near me has any, Tescos said out for 3 weeks in every branch for 50 miles and no expected in date.

Really fancied some for lunch 🤨

Who had eaten it all?

Same thing none to be found in M&S Marble Arch

gingercat02 · 27/10/2024 13:53

In the bin where it belongs 🤮🤢

Hatty65 · 27/10/2024 13:55

How odd! I've been looking for a couple of weeks in Tesco, and just thought they were sold out - but it's obviously Nationwide!

user1467300911 · 27/10/2024 13:59

Traditionally it is made from olive oil. I bought some recently from a supermarket and the olive oil had been replaced with rapeseed oil, presumably to keep it affordable, but it tasted slightly rancid despite being in date. Perhaps people stopped buying it because the new cheaper version is inedible.

TurkeyLurkey4 · 27/10/2024 14:02

Same in my local sainsbury’s! Now I’m concerned too. YANBU

JC03745 · 27/10/2024 14:05

Funny you say this OP, I had a sainsburys delivery today and tried ordering it, but none on their website at all! Normally they have a sainsburys own brand, plus a more expensive one, if not a 3rd brand too- but none at all! 🙁

Oh yes maybe.

About 7 varieties of this all over the shelves.

But I really had a taramasalata itch ☹️

Taramasalata itch … makes me hate it even more! Sounds like a STI…

Ollehreversed · 27/10/2024 14:07

What's taramasalata? Now tiramisu I can do!! Delicious!

ImNunTheWiser · 27/10/2024 14:10

Well Cod roe is seasonal, so maybe depends whether those brands only use fresh roe as opposed to frozen/tinned I guess.

Bigcitykitty · 27/10/2024 14:14

Anyone know which is the supermarket which does the one with smoked salmon in? I love that one.

Did anyone else ever go to Jimmy's in Frith Street? Very, very old school Greek/Cypriot restaurant in a basement. We went first as students in the early 80s. Standard starter was a saucer of hummus and a saucer of taramasalata, plus lots of piping hot pitta bread. All very exotic at the time. Main course was moussaka with potatoes in it as well as aubergine and lots of chips on the side. We'd wash this down with retsina and end with baklava and Greek coffee. The waiters were all elderly men in white jackets and it was incredibly cheap. Happy memories!

Oh gosh, I used to go when I lived in London after graduating at much the same time. Weren't the waiters famous for being, shall we say, brusque?

If you went there, did you also go to Pollo on Old Compton Street - similarly good value, good food but Italian? I still think about their zabaglione.

On topic, I'm sorry but I also find the pinkness of taramasata off putting. It's OK in a sweet product but.....

It isn’t meant to be pink I don’t think. Waitrose’s never used to be pink it was more pale creamy brown.

morinaga · 27/10/2024 14:19

All I see is tarantula salad.

coxesorangepippin · 27/10/2024 14:27

I've been waking up thinking about this too

Elektra1 · 27/10/2024 14:33

I love taramasalata and have noticed the same thing. So I bought a smoked cod's roe (cheap) from the fishmonger and made my own. It was heavenly - no comparison with the supermarket stuff.

Ginmonkeyagain · 27/10/2024 14:34

Talking of cod roe, what is absolutely impossible to find these days are those solid discs of cod roe battered and deep fried that used to be sold in fish and chip shops. I loved them.

LaineyCee · 27/10/2024 12:27

Don’t know where it’s gone, BUT… my mum did once find a fingernail in a tub. It really put her off the stuff! Perhaps she managed to tell sufficient numbers of people to cause a drop in UK wide demand.

I've been to 4 different supermarkets looking for it this week and it's out of stock everywhere 😭

We need to raise national awareness of this scandal!!!!

SauvignonBlanche · 27/10/2024 12:49

I’ve been looking all over for it!

None in Sainsburys or Waitrose so I tried Asda, to no avail.

I found some in Lidl last week.

Oooh. Maybe worth a dash.

Thanks Sauvignon- I now fancy a glass of wine with it too 😉

I want some now and my local Tesco, Co op and Morrisons are out of stock.
Damn you OP!

Sorry.

At least I can share the pain with you 🙃

M&S always have it.

They definitely don't today! And they haven't for at least 10 days.

MrsSkylerWhite · 27/10/2024 12:16

Morrisons and Lidl stock it local to us.

Is Morrisons any good now? I used to buy it, then I had one which was basically slime, thought it had been a bad batch, tried again a bit later, just as bad, so haven’t dared try since.

It wouldn’t be so bad if they still sold cods roes, but they don’t seem to

AndBreatheeeee · 27/10/2024 14:54

Most stuff is still low in stock in our giant Sainsbury's. It's ridiculous
