What are you doing with the extra hour tonight?

It’s that time of year again! The clocks are going back an hour at 2am, so we all get an “extra” hour tonight. Are you planning to make the most of it with a lie-in, or maybe use it productively?

Are you working, sleeping, catching up on something, or doing something you wouldn’t normally have time for?

Would love to hear everyone’s plans for the bonus time!

Sitting in the garden and posting here bc kids are asleep and I don't have much else to do!!!

I hate when it gets dark an hour earlier, the sun is low in the sky when driving . I want BST all the year around.

Oh God no. I'm in Scotland. Gets fully dark about midnight then starts getting light at 3am. And I'm central. Further up there is less.

Working...I'm nightshift so it's going to feel like the never ending shift

Feel for you! Hope you manage to get an extra break !

We will be staying up because DS/DDIL are about to become parents, so hopefully in an hour or two we will be breaking out the champagne here. We're getting a blow-by-blow, dilations and all, on WhatsApp because we're several hundred miles from them.

Congratulations! Hope baby has arrived safely by now or if not very soon! Exciting time!

There's still an extra hour. Just because you're not asleep doesn't mean there isn't one. So, in your case, the extra hour would be spent either watching morning tele, doing chores, going for a walk, an extra hour in the park.. or whatever you're doing tomorrow. You still get an extra hour.

Only if you live your life by the clock. Society decided to call seven o’clock six o’clock for a few months, time didn’t expand!

In the context of being a SAHM on a Sunday at the start of half term week, clocks are essentially meaningless to my household for the next week anyway. We will get up when the kids wake up, eat when we’re hungry and put the kids to bed when they’re tired. Those things will remain at roughly the same time as they always are. The “extra hour” will, if anything, be the odd few minutes here and there over the next few days, it won’t be noticed. There won’t be a defined hour of “extra time” on one day that is used for any particular activity.

Night shift here 😟

Justcashnosweets · 27/10/2024 00:33

I'm on Nightshift, so settled in for a 13 hour shift instead of my usual 12. 😐

God, I remember the days with young children when the extra hour just meant being woken at 5.30 instead of 6.30. Commiserations to all parents of young children but rest assured you will one day get your extra hour back.

I'm going to spend mine hopefully getting a much needed extra hour of sleep, then getting Sunday lunch ready at a reasonable time instead of, as often happens, eating it halfway through the afternoon.

Mine are 19 & 21 now but i still remember the 5am starts (which were 4am this sun). Commiserations to those going through it now but rest assured the time will come when they’re snoring at 11am & you’re waking them up hoovering the stairs 👹

TimeforZ · 27/10/2024 00:36

Drinking. Watched we are the world doc on Netflix, only to remember that it did very little to help starving children in Africa, and feeling totally deflated.

TimeforZ · 27/10/2024 00:37

Sorry to all the nightshifters. That must be shiit

Icanflyhigh · 27/10/2024 00:51

LBFseBrom · 27/10/2024 00:59

I'd quite like to be asleep :-).

It won't make much difference to me, I'm retired and on my own, I keep odd hours anyway and am often awake for a while during the night.

buffyspikefaith · 27/10/2024 01:19

I've got food poisoning so... in the bathroom Envy

Apolloneuro · 27/10/2024 01:26

1bub1pup · 27/10/2024 01:27

Well it's just taken me 2 and a half hours to get my DD back to sleep so I will be at a net loss I'm afraid.

I'm up at 3am instead 4am, peri induced insomnia doesn't care for daylight savings 😆
