What are you doing with the extra hour tonight?

It’s that time of year again! The clocks are going back an hour at 2am, so we all get an “extra” hour tonight. Are you planning to make the most of it with a lie-in, or maybe use it productively?

Are you working, sleeping, catching up on something, or doing something you wouldn’t normally have time for?

Would love to hear everyone’s plans for the bonus time!

Probably just coughing. You’d think it would not be beyond the wit of man to invent a cough medicine that actually works ( other than the one that does but has been banned). My ribs and pelvic floor are sick of this shit. Rant over. Enjoy your hour everyone 🤣

I have children who haven’t grasped the concept. They’ll get up at what is, to their body clock, 6:30am, as usual. They’ll adjust over a few days, as will I. There will be no “extra hour” in this household!

No extra hour? Incorrect.

My kids are exactly the same. They will get up according to their body clock, but I am gifted an "extra hour" of entertaining them (at then 5am) before the regular programme of sports clubs and visits to grandma commences.

Another cat one here, mine will wake me up at 6 instead of 7. Have sympathy for the night workers, especially if they did not work when they went forward to compensate. Remember the toddler years well, at least with cat I can go back to bed and read

Bellatrixpure · 26/10/2024 21:26

Sleep. I am going to sleep an extra hour ( or maybe 30 minutes to even it out)

Thanking the Lord that I no longer work night shifts and don't have to face the soul destroying prospect of being halfway through the shift and watching time go backwards an hour, knowing I'm working that hour for free 😭

I've always thought that's insanely unfair. Surely night shift workers should get one hour's overtime pay!

Moonshiners · 26/10/2024 21:28

I never ever understand this. Very dyslexic.
If I am meant to be at work at 8am does that mean I really have to be there at 7aM or 9am?!

not the intended use but you can get solpadeine from the pharmacy with codeine in it. I get coughs really badly when I get them so I occasionally take this as the codeine does suppress the cough and I find sometimes you need a rest from the cough to feel better. No doubt someone will say this is wrong but it works for me.

ChristmasCastaway · 26/10/2024 21:33

I have two sick kids right now. The idea of an extra hour of night makes me want to cry, even though I know it’s a mental thing rather than actually making it last longer!

Chandlerbuffay · 26/10/2024 21:34

I was wondering something about the clocks going back. If someone was giving birth tonight with twins, and they had them when the clocks go backward. One could be born at 1.59am just before the clocks go back then the 2nd born 5 minutes later but it would be 1.04am so the oldest would look like it’s born later.

Sleep training night 1.

Awful night to start! Or, to look at it another way, an extra hour of training for DS which must be a good thing!?

Packing for my holiday!

justasking111 · 26/10/2024 21:39

Oh God the dogs will be up at 5.30am tomorrow for breakfast 😭

Maria1982 · 26/10/2024 21:14

Yeah, I have a toddler so there is no extra hour here. I’m dreading the early wake tbh

One of the interesting things about having small children is that for about the only time in your life, you don't mind when the clocks go forward in spring. You don't get any more or less sleep, but the clock says that the time is one hour more reasonable than it otherwise would be.

HellofromJohnCraven · 26/10/2024 21:42

Keeping it til Monday morning. Leave clocks as they are on Sunday.

Mumistiredzzzz · 26/10/2024 21:44

Oh didn't realise it was tonight!

We will be staying up because DS/DDIL are about to become parents, so hopefully in an hour or two we will be breaking out the champagne here. We're getting a blow-by-blow, dilations and all, on WhatsApp because we're several hundred miles from them.

@samarrange

oh well that's exciting!! Best wishes for a good birth for DIL & baby xx

VioletCrawleyForever · 26/10/2024 21:11

I'm camping with scouts and hope it means an extra hour of sleep in the morning.

😂😂😂😂 I think you've badly miscalculated that outcome!!

LikeWhoUsesTypewritersAnyway · 26/10/2024 21:50

Sleeping. 💤

When i was young in my clubbing days I used to love going out when the clocks went back as the club closed at 3am so it was open an extra hour.

Now it'll be getting up an hour earlier with the DDs

I've just dropped ds off for his Saturday night out clubbing. We were wondering if clubs will stay open an extra hour. I hope the staff get paid more.

EggandStress · 26/10/2024 21:53

Being delayed on a train 😡
But it's ok because I can claim Delay Repay and get a few quid back.
Aaaarrrgh. So sick of trains!

Threelittleduck · 26/10/2024 21:54

I was planning on sleeping (as I did early shift with DS this morning) but DH has come down with the runs so I will probably be up at 4:30 instead of 5:30 with DS.
